Kotaku Rumor: PS4 out in November, control with your phone/tablet, maybe $429/529

That controller almost has to be real for sure. Looks pretty good. Still not as comfy as the 360 controller, probably, but looks more comfy than the DS3. The light bar is interesting. Wonder if it will pulse red when you shoot and stuff like that.

Ugh, and people complain about the gimmicks of kinect?

I think the psychological hit is not worth the $30. Just eat it. Release a "first" edition and charge 30 more. Sony understood this with the vita when they hit 250. I know the price points are not final but I wonder if crap like the ps eye is jacking up the price.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Unsurprised to see Amirox still hasn't really learned anything. Keep that hyperbole and those absolutes pouring, fellah!

Kinda hoping that Sony shows tomorrow that they have learned however, and that that something isn't "Microsoft is making a lot of money from locking off things we're giving for free".

It would hardly be surprising if Sony started charging for online play.

Consumers have shown their willingness to give an extra $300 per gen to Microsoft to access services that Sony give away for free.

You can't really blame Sony or Microsoft now..you guys are the enablers.

Maybe they saw that the price didn't help the Vita at all and are just hoping shit hits the fan

which actually seems to be a lot like Sony these days

We have a topic stickied about addressing people's arguments, and still people never learn. Do you guys have ANY rebuttal to what I said, or are we going to keep this charade going as if Sony is not precisely in the predicament I said?

Interesting bit of info right before the reveal.

I know they won't announce price or anything tomorrow but these numbers aren't making me very happy.

If it's $529, that means about $600-700 out of the door with a game or two, extra controller and such. That makes it a little tougher to be there day 1.

And the triggers ... fuck me, do better than that!

You're completely right. I found value in what I was buying. Hopefully now with TWO of them the plans will be more worthwhile. People are going to be looking at these purchases a bit differently with the inclusion of ecosystems, subscriptions, and internally linked accounts and such. It's not like just going to Gamestop and trading a PS2 for an Xbox, this is different. People will see where the value is and go there along with what games they want.

What if everything but online play is premium? Party chat, store discounts, free games, betas, etc cost money but everything else is free? Would kinda be weird cause online is free on vita.

Though vita is dead sooooo
That's what I've been saying.

Any new online feature that's not in the PS3 + all the current PS+ stuff might fall under the subscription. They won't abandon free online MP play because that's a huge bullet point to check compared to Microsoft.

That is not an argument, and just serves to illustrate my point - you don't like hearing the truth, so you try to denigrate an individual with sweeping generalizations. Either form an intelligent argument, or don't bother.

I mean, maybe you're right from a financial standpoint, but even if that's the case, losing Final Fantasy XIII wasn't the straw that broke the camel's back. I think PS3 hosted some great games (most notably the Uncharted series imo) since that announcement. PS3 might be in third place in the US, but it's hardly a niche gaming system only for hardcores. I think it might be doing a tad bit better than you give it credit for. I don't have the numbers off hand, but I'm sure it's software library support is a bit more substantial than gamecube's was, and no big third party releases have skipped Sony because of its lack of user-base.

I assume that's how it will work. Basic online play stays free for the bullet point, but the social features and content bonuses are premium content.

$529? I'm ok with that. Better than the $600 I paid for the PS3.

Triggers? Yea, they look weak. Hopefully they will improve.

Paid online? Ok with it as long as I get goodies like I do with the current PSN+

I don't really understand what everyone is bitching about. Ah well, GAF will be GAF. Will be waiting for the "OMG LOVE SOONYZ" posts if the info is different tomorrow/E3.

Was thinking maybe this, but putting chat behind a paywall may irk a few. Still from a business standpoint I imagine they want at that pot of Gold that is Xbox Live subs. If they take the MS approach I really do not see a mass wave leaving for other pastures because where would they go? All the other spots where folks have gone to avoid Live, but I don't see any mass exodus. Go to Nintendo or PC? Ok.

I'm also not sure they can make anywhere close to Live money without doing so either.
yeah I agree. Live subscriptions have slowed but are still enormous. Netizens would get over it fast or get wii us I guess. Or play on steam. Which they should do anyway!

Why are people saying triggers look the same?

Depends on how the triggers travel. If they have the same path as the PS3 triggers then that slight concave may not be enough.

I wonder how much of a negative impact these rumours will have for Sony (at least for the period until E3) if they don't announce an official price tomorrow.

Controller looks ok. Wish they'd stagger the sticks -- the left stick should get precedence over the d-pad, since most games are controlled with the left stick. Plus, it feels better in first-person shooters. Not sure about the triggers til I see how they feel.

FFXIII was symbolic of what was happening to Sony, not -the cause-. It was an emphasis that this is the last game Sony had exclusive from third parties that could have mattered, and it was no longer available to them as a poker chip.

I think this should be fairly obvious as an illustrative point, because the end result is every single thing I said ended up being true - people can see what has become of the PlayStation brand and make their own judgments, but I think the market has spoken. The fact that people keep trying to act like there is some surprising thing I said after we have seen the results for all these years remains a mystery to me.

Not everyone thinks the 360 controller is the greatest ever. Sony shouldn't try to be like them.

They shouldnt change everything about the controller but if you are going to have triggers then have triggers, not squishy buttons your fingers slide off of that most people dont care for. There is a reason that in games that fire using the triggers on the 360 pad they avoid R2 and L2 at all costs on the PS3.

Agreed.

Also, I can't believe some in this thread are saying they're glad Sony is charging for some of this online stuff.

It's kotaku, the odds of this being true is almost 0

It would be frigging hilarious if sony tried to paywall PSN though and sell the thing massively overpriced.
That wouldn't backfire at all xD

ps3: play online for free
Hey why don't you 'upgrade' for 500 euros to a ps4 so you can pay some more.
Sounds like a solid value proposition.

Well if you consider the PS3 a gamecube level failure (I don't), then they up for a wii style comback. Nowhere to go but up.
