iOS Gaming Thread February 2013: Where some have halitosis so packs of gum matters

I'm interested to see what the response is. It is a very obtuse game. The polar opposite of Bumpy Road. I didn't have the companion app when I played either, so I'm wondering if that helps you along or merely serves to explain some of the folklore. Regardless, it's a wonderful game without comparison on iOS and is worth $4 simply for the aesthetic.

You should by all means replay it with the companion.
I am guessing you played it for IGF, then?

Formerly Alaluef (not Aladuf)
Going to try playing it with iPad and iPhone combo if the companion app is supposed to enhance the experience like that.

Lupin3

Targeting terrorists with a D-Pad
Just announced.

The Room will have a free new chapter in Summer, which will be used to set the basis for The Room 2 out next Autumn ('new more spectacular setting').

Can't wait.

Fan-bloody-tastic! This game was so much fun, even if it was a little bit on the easy side.

I seem to have a lot of GC friends playing Clash of Clans. Is it any good? It looks like the same old town builder, We Rule type thing.

EDIT: Oh I see there was some talk about it a few days ago, and it IS just the same old thing.

Year Walk looks great, but I'm still curious to see what the actual meat of the game is. I guess knowing it's an "adventure puzzler" from a solid developer is enough to have me for $4.

Finally got my first iOS device, an iPhone 5. I'm so glad I kept up with these threads over the years, picking up some sweet free and .99 games. I've got so many I don't know where to start.

It's really awesome. I got my first iOS device two months ago, an iPad 4th gen, and I felt the same as you did. All the december sales made it all even crazier!

anyone play heroes and castles? How is it? Notice the thread on TA is massive.

A few people have said to enjoy it a lot here. I've only played a little, but really liked what I saw with it. It's a very big game for $2, and tons of stuff to unlock (at a fast rate too), you get a nice amount of upgrade material from every level, and every level can be replayed with each of the 5 heroes who all fight differently for additional bonuses. It looks impressive too, for what it is, with hundreds of units running around fighting each other. Some people have said it's grindy, but I was enjoying replaying the same level over with different heroes (the upgrades you purchase are persistent so you get them when you replay levels), and didn't see it as a grind, but fun. Tossing the enemies 10 feet in the air or shooting them halfway across the map is pretty fun, and the defend the castle works well I thought, with the wall you build/repair and fortify with archers/etc.

There's a good degree of difficulty later on from what I read, that's manageable by tactics, and there's a huge amount of multiplayer content as well, which even if you don't touch at all the game has a ton of content for $2. I don't think you can go wrong if you can tolerate the virtual controls and enjoy the 3rd person castle defense type of game.

Very grindy and not much feeling of progress. At some point I want to be plowing through everything. I can never really do this without playing 24/7 and upgrading like crazy. It gets tough fast.

Fundamentally, a good game.

stuck my tongue deep inside Atlus' cookies
Is it actually fun? It looks pretty lame, it's beginning to feel like Nimblebit are a one-hit wonder.

(What a hit, though)

Well, I mean, this one is a real video game. It's not just a time-killer "play then wait" game like Tiny Tower, Pocket Planes.

Still too early for me to weigh in on how fun it is. I liked it enough to play more at least.

I read an article about that game in the latest Game Informer. Very interesting concept, hopefully they can pull it off.

I don't really like 'Myst-like' games .. but this one intrigues me.

Wario64

works for Gamestop (lol)
Apple is really stepping up their free games offerings. Infinity Blade and PvZ are probably 2 of the most popular/best games on iOS

So i picked up Gods: Rebellion.

It really is quite decent for a fucking dollar. Sure the combat is a bit clunky, but there is some depth with the whole unlocking new combos and a counter system. Controls work better on iphone than ipad, but overall it's a quite decent brawler made by a nobody (better than all gameloft shit) and for a dollar.

If you dig GoW style games, toss the guy a bone.

I played Year Walk briefly. It's...unique. The presentation is awesome. Especially the title sequence-reminds me of the original Alien film title sequence.

That being said, it's so minimalistic that I really have no idea what I'm doing. I'll put more time into it tommrow when I'm not exhausted.

WOW.
I really didn't know what to expect, but I was completely blown away by my first hour of Year Walk.
WOW.
Just WOW.
Solved 2-3 (very immersive and clever) puzzles....WOW.
If you are barely interested in the game, just buy it and do not read/watch anything else.
If you like the idea of: Myst/Riven meets Sword&Sworcery and The Room, mixed with Nordic legends, just buy it.

Too bad I've work to do now....I'm really impressed.

Civ Rev just got a huge update that adds, among other things, multiplayer.

The other things added of course being a shitload of new IAP options such as the $2.99 multiplayer :|

Only to be expected I suppose.

Meanwhile starbase orion gets a neat new map zoom feature for phones, fixes and some balance changes.

So if The Witness is a PS4 game, what are the chances of it not looking and running like shit on iOS? very odd choice of platform. I wants it though.

I don't think it being on PS4 has anything to do with graphics. They must have paid Blow a good deal to keep it off 360/ps3 (initially)

Christian Donlan's Eurogamer review of Year Walk, because I'm determined to sell people on this game without actually saying all that much about it:

Elegant and artful, Year Walk is an unmissable piece of work - and one that is surprisingly hard to disentangle yourself from once it's done. You can close the app and put down the phone, but the forest may spread beyond its glassy confines, its spindly, silver-skinned trees taking root in your own home, your own dreams. 9/10

Not actually that important

The same as a game releasing on PC/iOS?

It's just a timed console exclusive, game's coming out on PS4/X360/PC/iOS and probably PS3/Durango
