For not being System Shock 2
isn't that the "style" of story telling in Alan Wake or Max Payne..?
Come on. This has got to be a joke.
The average TR time, across the series. Although I haven't played TR4 in a long time... how long did that take to beat? I don't recall taking much longer than 15 hours, but then it's probably the TR game I've played the least of the old group.
To be fair, Guardian of Light is pretty fuckin' awesome
In fact, can we just get Guardian of the Light 2, as an unlockable or something? I'd pay cash money for that shit

It is actually me who has the depraved mind.
Seeing Ami post lovely posts has reminded me, I need to beat GoL. What I played was fan-freaking-tastic but I can't remember what distracted me.
Hmmm, now to find a co op buddy...
Because for most of us it is a negative.
The times where a game had me stuck for days are for when I was a child with the time and lack of options to do better things. As a person that has little time to invest on my hobby I do not appreciate obtuse design created to make people "think". Entertainment can be draw in many forms, complexity for complexity sake is not one of them for me.
This "dumbing" down of games mentality is very frustrating to hear. The rating and the audience for this game is not likely going to stand and "think" for 5 hours to get through a section of this game.
Haha what the hell am I looking at
I'm pretty sure most of us got that out of our system with Bioshock 1 and have now accepted the series as the dumbed down modern shit that it is. Outside of 1999 mode I'll probably just compare it to normal Bioshock, which it damn well better be a LOT better than that game.
It's so fun... I think I officially have a copy of Guardian of Light on every platform now that it exists lol
"massively epic highly scripted set pieces straight out of a Hollywood blockbuster film"
-Video games 2013.
A pretty effective explanation of the new Tomb Raider.
Depends on the game. I would consider it a strong positive for a game like Tomb Raider, though.lol. Isn't this, like, a good thing though?
Most of the complaints around DmC still persist and after playing the game new issues arose. Game still runs on 30fps on consoles, still has dumbed down combat, no hard lock on, 2 button dodge is superfluous, color coated enemies are ass, DT system is garbage, bosses are terribad and story doesn't even reach NTs own standard.Except that people opposed to this Tomb Raider reboot actually have a point here.
Most of the complaints about DmC turned out to be non-issues once people actually played through the final game.
lol. Isn't this, like, a good thing though?
I dunno, offensive suits this game pretty well.I'm getting sick of opinions on aspects of a game being boiled down to a single adjective.
"Satisfying combat." Satisfying how? What does satisfying mean to you?
Haha. I loved the game, but it has aged like shit...much like Deus Ex.
I have it on my 360 and grabbed it on Steam during a sale because, "Hey, I need to beat that!" Hit me up sometime. I think all the correct info is in my profile.
Haha. I loved the game, but it has aged like shit...much like Deus Ex.
I might've bit and bought Tomb Raider if March was a barren wasteland for games, but Bioshock Infinite comes out within the same month as Tomb Raider.
My $60 bet is going to be on something that IGN doesn't make flo-charts for.

This is exactly how I feel as well. I've never had very much respect for Tomb Raider as a franchise in the first place, so to me this is the best thing that has ever happened to it. It looks like they've accomplished exactly what they set out to do, and that is commendable.are people still bemoaning the dumbing down of a massively mainstream series that hasn't shown any creativity in any of its sequels?
I love innovative and risky titles. I also can enjoy well made big budget mainstream titles without repeatedly yelling 'ludonarrative disonence' a bajillion times. Thank god I'm like me and can enjoy both high and low brow gaming.
Seriously. It's a Tomb Raider game. I loved Tomb Raider Anniversary and Underworld, but there wasn't an original or creative idea in either of them.
Tomb Raider was always trying to be popular, and it was never the height of creative game design, not since the original game. It's just changed into a mainstream game some of you like less. From the mainstream game it used to be.
I'm sure IGN will be advertising for Infinite very shortly.

People think QTEe are satisfying so its hard to say what it even means.
Fair enough.I wish everyone to be happy, but at the end of the day I would rather I be the most happy, so I'm glad this reboot exists.
I hope this QTE has a really depressing fail state.
Most useless QTE ever. Why can't they just make it part of the cutscene?
I get that. But at the same time we've know the game would be like this since E32011. It's time to get over it and judge it for what it is. A TombRaider/Uncharted/RE4 hybrid.Fair enough.
Been playing the shit out of Syndicate lately, so I can empathize.
Its not that I think Tomb Raider has been the greatest in gaming, but it had a niche, and I appreciated that niche. And since the pre-release hype for this game has started, I've been reminded that that niche is irrelevant, and that executions are a good substitute. Its a bummer.
But that said, for what this game is, it looks more than competent. I just wish there was more respect for the audience in terms of providing challenge and head scratchers and choice, and less desire to copy genre kings.
At the very least it can be appreciated on an ironic level. Most useless QTE ever. Why can't they just make it part of the cutscene?
Press Triangle for fuck yes...
Oh wow did that have me laughing all the way through. If Conan's review doesn't convince you to get the game day one...
made me want it even less if that's possible.
on top of it not being what I want from a Tomb Raider game, it's on some snuff film/torture porn type shit
What the fuck, no it hasn't. You should be ashamed.
Some guy with a System Shock avatar is FURIOUS at this comment, somewhere
edit: LOLOLOL or he's in this very thread, whoops
