THQ now selling off Darksiders, Homeworld, Red Faction and More

Can't believe so many people on here are asking for Darksiders to be saved instead of Red Faction. Red Faction at least has something unique going for it with destruction. A trademark of the series since the original. Darksiders is just some Zelda/GOW rip off without doing anything that great. Not to mention that the artist that gave that game series an identity left the dev after the second game was released.

I've never played darksiders and the last red faction game I played was the original but I think it is fair to say that Red Faction has been given much more of a chance to succeed already

Who'd exactly be a good fit to make Darksiders? that game series was pretty much defined by Vigil, and having another dev pick up where they left off just seems...wrong. If that makes any sense. Other than trying to emulate the style, they could try rebooting it and making something brand new.

This is crazy but i would love for retro to take a crack at it.

Nintendo is badly missing non-mario games in their lineup.

The destruction doesn't come with the package. And RF without the destruction is a completely indistinguishable sci-fi shooter. Darksiders at least has an interesting universe going for it.

Plus if Deep Silver doesn't get Red Faction then Voliton won't have it, and thus you have to question how good it is. A developer with some people good at a destruction game could be great though.

And beyond the fact Inaba mentioned interest in Darksiders? They have some of the Okami talent (Kamiya notably), so they have experience with Zelda-style gameplay, and Bayonetta and MGR show they're awesome with combat, so if you could have the staff develop an adventure game with combat more like one of those two, and just outsourced the story/art direction to those responsible for Darksiders as it is you could have an amazing hypothetical Darksiders 3.

I wonder if the gog guys could somehow enter the fray. Not sure how much money and obligations we're talking about, but e.g. Homeworld on gog sure would be nice.

When are they going to auction off the contents of the THQ office like they did for 38 Studios? That looked fun... I want to attend and buy some game press trophies and weird old swag.

here is the original source: http://www.kccllc.net/documents/1213398/1213398130226000000000004.pdf

including the complete list Kotaku didnt bother to report

Sad to see some good stuff lumped in with complete trash in lot 5. It's all going to end up in the bin of some company that nobody has ever heard of and will never see the light of day again.

I'm not sure if you get IP of the series (e.g. supcom) rights for the licensed software lot. You might only get sale rights.

Sega and Homeworld is my hope. I don't really care if the original Homeworld team is still at Relic or not I think Relic(maybe Creative Assembly as well) is still up to the task of doing the series justice. Sega itself is also one of the few largish publishers that is still focusing heavily in the PC market and the strategy game market. I think they will be the best hope to actually getting a new Homeworld game at this time.

With that said though to be realistic I would bet that Homeworld is more or less another dead series and at best we may get a GoG release.

wow. homeworld is up for sale and you care about red faction?

jesus. Do you have any idea how important Homeworld is? its a franchise that goes beyond its genres. Homeworld literally is one of the most fascinating games I've ever tried playing, and thats coming from someone who sucks at RTS.

Agree. I'm not a big RTS fan anymore but Homeworld is just mindblowing.

So no one loved full spectrum warrior? Guess that's why it bombed, I think even today it stands out as a unique rts and tps. Maybe it just needed more guitar riffs and uavs..

Is there a minimum bid amount for these ips?

Huh, i figured Red Faction went to Deep Silver with Volition

Iirc only IPs that were being worked on moved with the studios, any that weren't like Red Faction, Homeworld etc. we're to be sold off later (now).

And of course Darksiders is there because no one wanted the studio.

People are allowed to care about different series dependant on their tastes and interests, you know. It's not a crime.

Nintendo to buy Darksiders IP....now that would be something.

If literally the only thing they used it for was to put Death or War in Smash 4, along with a Darksiders stage (Twilight Cathedral? Samael's prison?) and the Guardian music from DS2, I would be more than happy.

I'm probably alone on this, though.

Can't wait for megaton thread if Nintendo pick something. I don't think this will happen at all, but they should consider expanding their IPs portfolio with something western.

Seeing Worms here scares me the most. I love this franchise and don't want it to disappear/fall into bad hands.

I hope someone buys the Red Faction IP. A new RF game on next gen consoles with even better destruction. Yes please.

And before people get excited, Crytek has already expressed disinterest in the Darksiders IP.
Why would anyone be excited? They have to be the dullest developer on the planet. I know they picked up some of the Vigil guys, but with the shady way that went down, and how ass DSII was, I don't think they're the best for the series.

Some people still hold the series and Vigil in high regard, and a subset of these people even consider Darksiders 2 to be a good game... which is something I possibly would agree with had it spent another six months->a year in the proverbial oven instead of releasing bloated and undercooked.

I just want to see Red Faction picked up by someone who will do it justice, especially with the next generation getting closer and closer and how it will handle complex physics. We'll see more destruction in some ways next generation, but it still won't be anywhere near as popular as it should be since a lot of developers seem to think it's a waste or would ruin the flow of their levels.

A destruction lover's dream. :)

Lot 4 is a good fit for Warner Bros., imo. They're sorta into... phantasmagorial stuff, and I feel Darksiders would fit perfect in their ecosystem. And I know, Vigil guys are in Crytek now... But who knows, maybe some key developers would return if WB approached them.

I'd also like to see them get the Lot 5, considering Drawn to Life and Lock's Quest. But there's too much filler software in there, and they might be disinterested... :/ Perhaps they wouldn't mind de Blob for some low-budget-compatible goodness, but I'm not sure how interested they'd be in the likes of Summoner and Destroy All Humans!, let alone the rest.

Lot 1 is clearly DeepSilver material, and I suppose it would be nice if Homeworld returned to Relic, though considering Sega, you can't bet much on that.

I loved the feeling of Homeworld, and its fleets of spaceships flying in formation... I was terrible at playing it, though, like most RTS.

Pity Lot 5 is such a mixed bag. Some good stuff, some intriguing stuff (Pax Imperia? Wow, talk about a blast from the past) and some utterly shittacular IPs. It's like getting a blue Kobe steak with MickyDees fries.

And where's Impossible Creatures?
