CVG Rumor: Microsoft to reveal EA partnership at Next Xbox event

NO way you caught one. I mean yeah I like xbox 360 but I've been posting on how I really like ps4 and if Microsoft doesn't bring it I'm jumping ship. My problem is their is way to much misinformation in these threads. Then other threads where people are quoting people with misinformation into other threads. Then these stupid rumors fly and never stop. If it has 4 gbs of DDR fine but come on we know thats not true.

You're really telling me you believed his post was serious.

This is just a gut reaction, but an MS and EA alliance sounds pretty unappealing to me. Two of the most profit-obsessed game companies (IMO) joining forces can only lead to evil-doing.

well said.

the other side of the coin is next-gen will be financially brutal, and only money making companies will see its end.

ofcourse GT is a stronger IP than Fifa in europe

europe hasnt committed to any soccer ip. PES was bigger than FIFA last gen and next gen if PES is any good and if FIFA really goes xbox exclusive , then it will become a big brand again

if you make a good soccer game it will sell in europe, unlike GT. even if there are alternatives people would only buy GT

I am stunned at some of the responses in this thread. Exclusive games; FIFA/Madden. Durango is dead based on specs that weren't even rumoured.

Am I in the right forum. This is NeoGAF isn't it?

You are reading into this too much.

Both EA and Activision have way to big of a fanbase on either platform for them to simply ignore either platform. It will cost them more than the 2nd hand market ever would.

Oh, for those thinking BF4 exclusive, in the same EA meeting "BF4 looks beautiful on PS4"

Maybe, maybe, there will be some next-gen exclusives to MS from EA, to support this "block used games" policy. I do not mean that they are nextgen xbox exclusives, the titles could be cross-gen games that only appears in the next gen machine from MS. This way EA still get the revenue from current gen and get a foot on the next gen camp. PS4 and nextgen xbox install bases won`t be huge anyway.

So CVG is getting this from a source of a source? Sounds legit /sarcasm

Base on EA audio stream yesterday, I wouldn't be surprised if this happens. I just hope that the Madden licensed isn't exclusive anymore and 2K can get back into making NFL games.

It really is. FIFA is part of a larger, non-constrained market. When FIFA was down PES was up. Now that PES is down FIFA is up. That isn't FIFA's brand driving consumers to the market, that is football as a whole having an inherently strong market.

Meanwhile Gran Turismo destroys every other racing game in Europe for all practical purposes. People aren't using the competition as a meaningful supplement when GT isn't present, they just don't buy racing games. That is a meaningful contrast in market strength between the two.

Total unit sales is not the entire story of a brand's strength. GT moves consoles in Europe, FIFA is just the second game they buy because it's the current strongest football title.

You wait until Durango games are shown, Remember Wall Guy!

I could see this going beyond just dlc.... ms is more open to pay for 3rd party exclusives (mass effect 1, gears of war, ryse). I could see them doing the same with the start of next gen.

Also wonder if this could have something to do with the blocking of used games that is still rumored.... gamers will hate it but you know devs would flock to it.

All that said this does seem like speculation based on ea not appearing at sony's press conference.

What exactly was the reason EA never supported the Dreamcast? Did Sony actually pay them for that, or were they turned off from the Saturn?

IIRC, the president of Sega of America in that time, Bernie Stollar, was confident that Sega could develop their own sports series and was hoping that would be a Dreamcast differentiator. EA bitched about it, and asked for Sega to not release any sports game for at least 5 years. They couldn't get to any agreement...

A similar thing happened with Ms and the original Xbox, but Ms bowed to the pressure and ditched all their 1st party sports ventures.

I do not remember Sony having anything to do with EA's decision, as EA pretty much supported everything and anything, except the Dreamcast.

The only game i know Sony pulled a few strings was changing the name of RE Code Veronica and RE3, i do not know if they paid any money to Capcom but they made sure that "Nemesis" RE game was called Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, where as the original plan was for Code Veronica to have the "3" in there. I have read and heard this many times from reputable sources.

But as for this rumor, no it does not mean EA will be exclusive to Xbox, because many of the licenses EA has for their sports games absolutely require them to release the games on other systems as well. FIFA is coming to everything for years to come, no exclusivity deal can stop that.

Exclusive DLC for the entire generation or exclusive launch titles is my guess. I don't give a shit about DLC, especially EA's so no loss for me personally. Wonder if this is their band-aid for blocking used game?

Unless MS paid them 100's of million of dollars, i don't see this going anywhere past exclusive DLC or launch titles. I can see snagging Madden 14 for exclusive nextbox, which is more popular than the BF series.

I still scratch my head on how RE3 was a full on sequel to RE2, when it was actually a expansion of RE2 in the same city!

RE Code Veronica took the series further, with Chris, Claire, and Wesker's return.

Cross gen maybe a possibility but I cant think of any EA games that would benefit from that. All of theirs have either yearly updates or already announced sequels. While titles like Dragon Age & Mass Effect have sequels in the works, nether have been announced as 360 & PS3 officially. At this stage, its more likely they were always next gen titles

I don't think you get it, the xb3 is done. It's dead in the water, dead on arrival. First, they Are going to make used games illegal, effectively killing GameStop, my sole source of income for my household. This is the worst move m$ EVER could have made.

Secondly, they only have 4gb GDDR3. 3! That is 2 less than 5, effectively making the xbox3 4 to 6 years behind the ps4 in terms of technology. It's pure science. The Xbox IS inferior. Like I said,,dead on the water. /THREAD
Are you real?

Hopefully we don't see the console money-hats this gen like MS tried to do with SE last gen. It's just a waste of time for everyone involved..

Maybe the exclusive DLC will work out for them better than it did with Sony, where I'm pretty sure their sales of certain games still finished behind 360.

If it's exclusive games...I'm trying to think of anything EA makes that would make me care about it being exclusive. They are the worst game makers in the industry by far.

Agreed. Nothing like a company behind a pay-wall teaming up with one that wants microtransactions in all their games. Pretty easy to avoid both of them however.

Where was all the disgust with money hats talk when Bungie was on stage with Sony announcing exclusive content? I think I remember cheers lol.

That said, I'll be surprised if this is anything major at all.

As long as this is just another way of saying money-hattied timed/exclusive content, I really don't care.

I don't think EA is dumb enough to make their franchises console exclusive this time around. They love money too much.

We will see the moneyhats, Microsoft let that genie out of the bottle and its not going away. The difference this time is Sony and Nitnendo have learned from it and are both doing it ie Sony with ActiBlizz and Nintendo with Monster Hunter, Bayo 2 and Dragon Quest. Also I wouldn 't be surprised if both Sony and Microsoft has a couple more big ones cooked up for E3.

I think you mean Gamestop is dead in the water, following the likes of Blockbuster and HMV. Digital distribution is the future, retailers need to accept this.
opening up with a Multiplatform/CrossGeneration game?

That would kill the excitement. At least a new IP to start a conference with a bang
Opening up with Battlefield will make EA happy though. And EA is like America, better to be friends than enemies.

Next-gen is really bringing the stupid out of some people (not saying here, but you get my point).

I don't get why people treat this rumor as a fact, instead of complaining that CVG is apparently talking BS, and that wouldn't be the first time.

Valve signing with Nintendo? Yeah, right, and some believe this one somehow.

Respawn's game is going to be a timed exclusive, or maybe, just maybe a straight up exclusive for the new Xbox.

Yeah, because MS is actually paying that much for an exclusive game. As if EA thought that the PS4 or the PC user base was that insignificant.

It's BATTLEFIELD 4! I don't care if it's multiplat. It's BATTLEFIELD 4! Oh. My. Gawd. I'm creaming my panties now thinking about it.

That's a much better way of saying what I did.

This would only lead to more anti consumer moves.

I agree for the excitement about the game. And that game will be on everyplatform. point of exclusives during launch is to get you excited about that particular platform.

No I don't think so. Activision and EA look like they swapped sides. Activision is now in the Sony camp. Destiny is getting exclusive PS4 content.

There is 0% chance that the MS consoles don't get exclusive content in turn. Activision aren't stupid.

If games are $70 and I can't use Gamefly, then fuck the next gen.

But it would get you excited for the platform at Microsoft's Xbox Event. It would be the first time BF4 is shown. We would know what it looks like and how well it runs on Durango. If it looks amazing, at that time, no one will know what it looks like on competing platforms. Plus, DLC maps exclusivity announcement would be big. Unless it's only a month or so.

I expect MS to start the next Xbox gameplay footage with an exclusive game, though.

Sony will obviously still get EA games because they can't afford not to release them on the PS4. But given their policies and hints at charging $69.99 for games, I can't say that I would miss them.

I really can't see EA or Activision Making any game exclusive. I think we will see mostly time exclusive dlc if anything. Which doesn't excite me. If there is some sorta partnership its probably just an xbox logo after the tv ad.

My speculation:

- Both the Xbox 720 and PS4 will have exclusive Battlefield 4 content
- The new IP from Respawn will be a 720 exclusive, period

Having lost Bungie I believe Microsoft want another platform exclusive FPS outside of Halo.

How do you will feel if there is nothing happen between EA and MS?
Try keep your expectation lower, otherwise more pressure for MS.

More pressure? pfft, MS can easily come out looking great. So many negative rumors/articles about their next system everywhere you look. Already doomed to fail. So no pressure at all. If they fail, many will say "what I expected."

EA is alive thanks to their multiplatform business.

Don't think they'll be changing this strategy soon.

CVG is taking a chance based on a fairly educated guess. If they are wrong we'll laugh and move on. If they are right they get some insider cred.
