ZWEI (Shinji Mikami) may have a multiplayer component

Bit sad to hear, but I'm hoping Mikami and his team won't disappoint regardless.

...I'm almost wondering if this was something they felt obligated to put in because of the complaints over Vanquish not having co-op.

Job listings don't necessarily equate to confirmed elements of a title. Many things change, especially seeing as most of those are dated.

Man it seemed so promising when there was only concept art floating around. Now it's an action game with guns? Maybe it's along the lines of RE1-3. Watch it turn out to be over the shoulder. :|

Ok. I'll bite.

How.

Started out with incredible hype as a new proper survival horror game (OMG MIKAMI! OMG YAMAOKA!), and with EA Partners backing to boot (back in 2008-ish when they were a semi-good publisher), it seemed like a match made in heaven. Then gradually as more media was released, the comedy and stylised action elements started surfacing, and it turned out that the final game was really just Suda 51 masturbating for 6 hours. Again.

ZWEI's hype seems to be following the same trajectory. I wouldn't be surprised if it's really just another action game and not proper survival horror like we were lead to believe - not that i'm complaining about this outcome after RE4 and Vanquish, but horror is an under-represented genre now in the AAA and console spaces.

I can only hope that ZWEI is a spiritual successor to Vanquish. Vanquish gameplay (minus bullet time) in a multiplayer arena? Straight into my veins.

At this point it's grown to 12: http://garaph.info/gamesearch.php?t...meid=&orderby=SalesLTD+DESC&res1=&res2=&opt=1

I added that note based off Famitsu numbers for context.

It's worth noting, for people that don't know, in Japan they don't add to the total when a game is re-released for a cheaper price. If we were to add the totals, HSG5 would have also sold over 500K with its cheaper release.

The most infamous case of this is MHP2G on PSP where the original release sold over 2 million and the cheaper release sold over 1 million.

We don't even have a trailer yet for fuck's sake, hell, we don't even have actual screenshots.

Jeez.

ehhhhhhhhhhh?

You're comparing the deceptive marketing campaign of a half assed effort from Suda and Grasshopper, to a game we've only seen on a conceptual level. (Keep in mind that this thread is looking at JOB LISTINGS, which aren't always indicative of the final product)

Jumping the gun a bit there playa

Well that's probably for a reason

I want static pre-rendered backgrounds, illogical puzzles and tank controls damnit!!!

When that's what you associate with a genre, and things like "guns" and "co-op"(two of the most popular trends in the console space) are seen as the antithesis of what defines the genre, it's not really surprising to see that kind of game disappear from mass market.

Leave that janky shit to people like Swery. Tango Gameworks is looking like a dream team of game making talent. It'd be a waste if they were squandering that potential on Haunting Ground 2 or some shit. Make me some shit that's fun to play imo.

If Nintendo didn't make sure there is a Wii U version, then I will be very pissed!

Well, its using Havoc, and we know that engine is highly optimized for Wii U. The current state of things though, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Still very interested to see something on this game, although this news is not exactly what I was expecting Zwei to be.

First of all:

It's also a AAA console game in 2013 or later.

It's generally the extreme rarity for those to not have multiplayer.

Even CD Projekt is jumping in the pool.

Some of Warner Montreal's job postings make me wonder about the next Batman title as well.
Wait what? Witcher 3 has multiplayer?

Second of all: i'd be down for some optional coop or even better some asynchronous multi, Dark Souls style.

Fine by me, no question for me at this point, after Vanquish? Nobody makes a better third person shooter than Mikami, so he may as well put a multiplayer component in it because it will probably be the best multiplayer in a third person shooter, industry-wide.

I suspect that if this does have multiplayer, it's being outsourced. Mikami has zero experience with multiplayer.

No, horror games are under the "adventure" genre, not action.

There's a universal committee that categorizes games under those definitions? At least wait until concrete informations start coming out, before crying foul for one word.

I trust Shinji Mikami even if the game is, sadly, no longer a survival horror.

Vanquish was a great action game, but that was Platinum. I hope whoever he's working with can deliver.

I'm pretty sure it's still survival-horror. Mikami called RE4 action-horror, but calls Zwei survival-horror. They have a LOT of talented people on board, and some researching will reveal most are horror ethusiast. We know the person who did the pre-rendered backgrounds for REmake is on-board for the project.

All of Mikami's games have gunplay in them. It can be both a TPS and a horror game. If there's anyone I'd trust to accomplish this, it'd be Mikami and the people collected on this project.

Need more Vanquish so yes why not for another action game from mikami. Shadows of the Damn was a very good mix of Horror and Action also. Mikami at the helm of the game sure it will be awesome.

As much as I want to be optimistic, if a single team company is looking for someone with skill in such and such area, it means they need that expertise in the project they're currently working on. In our case tango and ZWEI.

What's to be pointed out is that people overreact when they hear "action TPS/FPS".
Tango was/is looking for people who have already worked on the genre, because the horror genre has always been a subgenre of a bigger genre.
Survival-horror was a subgenre of 3rd-person action/adventure games back in the days.

Since RE4, survival-horror as we know it today is a subgenre of third-person shooters.
Given that the director is the guy who's actually responsible behind RE4, one shouldn't be too worried about where ZWEI is headed.
Remember, REMAKE had gunplay, ammo, aim and shoot mechanics.

The part to worry about is the need for multiplayer expertise.

Come to think of it, I think they're not so keen on advertisement yet because what they might have showed/teased would already have changed too much, e.g RE1 remake, RE 2, Code Veronica and RE 4's development cycles :D

I am actually so mad about this. I want the spiritual successor to REmake goddammit!

"I've found my focus and once again I'm striving for pure survivial horror. I am being very hands-on to see that the quality is there. Rest assured."

- Shinji Mikami

I still have some hope...

Multiplayer doesn't automatically mean bad. Imagine being able to invade peoples games as the monster and scare them.

Doesn't that have multiplayer too?
Yeah (though it's not conventional), but this makes me think coop. I loved Zombi because of how solitary it was and how desperate things were, though it did have interactions. I trust Shinji and will wait to see it, as I'm sure it will be a good game either way. I just hate the thought of coop, but maybe it will be unconventional and maintain a "survival" feeling.

I'll buy it either way.

RE5 Lost in Nightmares managed to be genuinely scary, even in co-op. I'll keep that in mind.
I still have yet to play this. Always wanted to.

Talk about disappointment. FML.

I mean, I love RE4-5 and even 6, but wanted something different from those. Now it's an action TPS.

Bah.

It's absolutely the perfect mix of old RE and new RE. It is *fantastic*. As much as I love RE6, if they stuck with LiN as the template for future RE games, I'd be ecstatic.

Shit...I really should get on this. Is it available as a stand alone like that Vampire inFamous game or do I need RE5 to play it?

I understand why people are skeptical and weary, but I would suggest to wait for official media before jumping the gun. The only 100% we have right now is the concept art piece.

I'm in the camp that trusts Mikami, I feel his games are masters of design, gunplay, and quirkiness.

The job listings have been removed since this thread started, lol. See for yourself.

Someone is viewing these boards :D

New stuff: job listing dating from 2 days ago (26/03): VFX artist / Music composer.
Unfortunately, shows us nothing new, required skills are too generic (they've learned ?)
