So here's a new PV for Kiniro Mosaic. Looks like it could be a fun show. Hopefully the characters being mostly foreigners will at least lead to some awesome Engrish. But who am I kidding, they'll speak perfect Japanese because anime.

Still, definitely going to give it a shot.
Well, this looks even more boring than I expected it to be. ._.

They better animate the spin-off somehow cause it's better than the original manga.
Maybe it'll be an OVA or something.

Narnia, probably.

I remember being all stoked to have one after reading the second book, then finding out for myself just what it was.

No. Ive been eating turkish delights for years. Found them at a local greek restaurant store and a few other places. I havent seen Narnia. So there are turkish delights mentioned in it?

So, remember when I mentioned that there would be 4 different versions of the Aku no Hana OP, with 3 mystery vocalists? Looks like they announced it all finally. Each of the different versions are themed to one of the main characters, with the fourth one being themed to the city itself. The lyrics will be different as well, but I think they're supposed to sort of create one full single together. Anyway... here it is.

"Aku no Hana -Takao Kasuga-" Vocal: Noko (from Shinsei Kamattechan)
"Aku no Hana -Sawa Nakamura-" Vocal: Mariko Goto
"Aku no Hana -Nanako Saeki-" Vocal: Shiho Nanba
"Aku no Hana -Kiryu City in Gunma-" Vocal: Asako Shinosaki (from Uchuujin)

Aside from Shinosaki, who I looked up when they first announced she was producing the OP theme, I have no fucking idea who the other vocalists are, so anyway I went on Youtube to pull some links to some of their songs. Yeah... erm... this sure is going to be special! Lol. Enjoy.

Noko: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzpE6d3c7PY
Mariko Goto: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1xOtdT0sxw
Shiho Nanba: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJf6EB59tq4
Asako Shinosaki: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuYcl_O8_6o
So hipster it hurts.

Okay, so I decided to get a day's head start on this because I apparently don't know the meaning of "simulwatch". Sorry Mad Pierrot! :lol And I decided to go with the dub for maximum late 90's-ness. Oh god why does the dub use honorifics why why why.

So uh, yeah. I have no idea what the fuck is going on. This seems like something I would have watched back in 2000 or so just because "it's anime!". There's a high school kid, the multicolored-hair girl, robots, body horrors, and Betterman himself, who looks kinda like Vicious from Cowboy Bebop. Oh, and a bunch of terms are thrown around and never explained.

25 more episodes of this, huh? This is going to be tough, I can see it now.

Detective Conan 166:
Well, at least my reward for sitting through that shitty episode was this. Delicious, manga based goodness with Heiji showing up and some actual mystery. Heiji cases are always the best. And he made it through a whole episode without calling Conan 'Kudou" in front of Ran and Kazuha, so he should feel proud. This is a case that I recall enjoying in the manga, although it's been a long time. Also Kazuha x Ran stuff. You don't even need goggles for this.

Has you watch GaoGaiGar yet?

Fight the final boss that already transformed, then it transforms again, and now it gets possessed into yet another new form. @_@

I know I said so earlier, but seriously... watch GuP OVA 3. It's one of the most insane things ever, and in that it is absolutely brilliant.

Hi I'm Miho Nishizumi, and I have a death wish.

Aside from the bizarre recklessness of doing something like this as a sport without full body armor made of graphene for safety. And the richness of communities to somehow pay for this expense. That is, to reimburse someone's house like nothing(then again a World Cup soccer game easily raises enough money to replace hundreds of houses). Pretty good. If anything the most disappointed I am is that the characters haven't endeared themselves to me as much as I'd like.
Oh, don't worry, it's not very likely that she'll be instantly killed by a flying shell, so what's wrong with sticking her head and torso out of the tank?

... Yeah, it is pretty stupid. Apparently these people do not have the same expectations for safety that we do today...

Girls und Panzer Special 03

So they finally explain the academy ships and they are as crazy and revisionist history like as everyone expected. Kinda telling what sort of world GuP is set on.
I like the whole "We saved the economy by making people build huge ships. I guess tankery is the same as it's a huge industry booster probably/
.
Also
hotspring episode in disguise!
Seriosuly though if the
Ships are staffed by the ship studies and engineering students what does the staff do? That must look terrific on their resumes regardless. Engineering masterace confirmed in GuPiverse.
Almost everything about this episode was utterly insane, but I think that the craziest part might actually be
the thought that junior high schools might be the same... do they seriously expect 12 year olds to be able to sail giant aircraft carriers all by themselves? And yes, those ARE at sea; only elementary schools are on land. I would hope that they have a lot more adult staff there... (and even though apparently the whole crew of this ship are kids, there have to be adult teachers and staff and such to show them what to do and oversee them, we just never see them...)

Also, do boys have their own school-ships, or do they not bother to educate males or something? The only men we've seen in the series are random townspeople or underlings...

GJ-bu is both similar and (thankfully) different to Ichizon. Kyoro is sort of spineless and is the butt of the joke for everything, but he's in no way seeking a harem in the club which makes him more likable than some other main characters. And the comedy plays more on how goofy the characters can be instead of "HEY WE'RE MAKING AN ANIME REFERENCE LOOK AT US".
Sounds bland. I might try it to see if it's less terrible than Ichizon, though.

Also, SYD is usually only compared to Ichizon because it involves a student council and not really the content of the show. SYD will always be the better show even if people absolutely hate the toilet humor.
SYD is great, I like it. It is pretty one-note (it's "girls making sexual jokes, the anime"), but it's funny in its one note humor.

Trust me, it's not. lol

It's actually more emotionally and intellectually honest than Haganai in that respect.
Based on what I watched of the show, sorry, I don't think I can trust you on that... that was a harem show, no question! He wants a harem, the main girl seems to like him, the others enable him in that and may or may not like him, etc. It's got the feeling of a harem show in ways that SYD does not have at all.

And regardless, the main character is extremely unlikable and sexist, and the female lead is absurdly stupid. Not a good pair, to say the least, and not characters I want to watch much of...

Fairy Tail 175

well thats that. It almost had good animation! Might have had too much to drink though.

I guess its back to manga for me. Dont remember where I left off O_O

That's where I first heard about it years ago. So long ago the second book was still considered the first!

At least they're painfully obvious with this rather than, say, Mr. Bushido whose real identity was never revealed and remains a mystery to this day.

To be honest, Rau Le Creuset is the only Char I feel had a secret identity that came as a shock. I mean, Zechs might've been when I first saw Wing, but looking back, between Golbez and Vader, that kind of reveal has no real surprise for me now. Rau, on the other hand, was very much a WUT moment.

Neo Roanoke, on the other hand, was about as obvious as you can get, and something of a let down since
they do a very poor job of explaining his survival.

To be honest, Schwarz would be a big deal if not for the fact that I played SRW J and so I actually know who he is already.

vividred 12

just thinking about how much $ was lost from all those F22's blown up makes me dizzy. But yeah, jrpg ending, why not.

When you yuri it up between 2 girls of different dimensions, the end of the universe apparently :)

For a show that has pretty consistently decent visuals, it's pretty odd that the finale looks quite rough.

Fun show. full of fun.

and butts.

Don't forget to post your impressions here, man!
You take me for a fool, friend!

Royal Space Force

I wrote some notes right after my first viewing. Here they are, cons then pros:

·Didn't like the soundtrack (obviously manned by separate personnel, as heard in differing styles; synth aesthetic unflattering for a movie dealing with history itself; Sakamoto pieces generally quite good, albeit hindered by sound quality/arrangement; some other tracks work too).
·Attempted rape scene reasonable on paper, if unoriginal/overtly symbolic, but hampered by questionable direction (a titty shot—really?!) and abrupt, unsatisfying editing thereafter.
·Depiction of Republican forces rather one-note, using odd sound processing to convey mysteriousness of different language/dialect, even when that goes against emphasizing familiarity of life in general.
·Ambiguity of Shiro's narration can both tie together themes and confuse viewers, due to unknown context of narration (during the story? after?).
·Side characters (not Shiro/Riquinni/General) are used mainly as straight foils, with some more characterized and others (the old engineers!) lacking in development.
·Shiro's broadcast feels a bit too preachy, and not in a way reflecting his inner naivety (as was shown in the opening).
·Death of
the Doctor
gets rather hollow treatment; fails to contrast soldiers' communal respect for former comrades with disdain for superiors.
·Occasional lapses in alternate-world consistency involving written language (it's hard to tell whether or not a message is in Japanese or Honneamise!).

·Smooth, steady pacing for slice-of-life/epic genre mixture; length of film corresponds to development of themes.
·Thematic development takes precedence, making room for subtle revealing of character details throughout without having to resort to obvious changes in characterizations (reflecting individuals' realistic, internalized development).
·Wonderful usage of contrasts, over-riding motifs (jagged v. smooth geometric shapes/compositions used as metaphors), and parallelism to drive the story forward through plot montages and careful lapses in activity.
·One of the most self-confident, self-aware, and utterly brash studio debuts in anime history (dat budget).
·Has something to say, and says it either silently or audaciously; the opening pan-down comes to mind.
-Tackles the conflict between insignificance of daily life v. significance of historic progress effortlessly; movie explores perspective in a natural, spiritual manner that transcends the alternate world which Honneamano exists within.
·Consistently impressive animation, combined with impossibly dense backgrounds and intense layouts, all make for a visually engaging journey through a world resembling modern Japan.
·Universal message speaks through a mixture of Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Romantic art (I caught some William Blake in the mythology sequences), and more primitive art-styles all meshed together to display the mixing of vernacular and elite cultures in a society.
·Voice acting genuinely accomplished (especially regarding Leo Morimoto!); screenplay both humorous and necessarily dramatic (and robust overall, if a bit spare)
·Truly sardonic view of dead-beat life within a system of failed expectations; it's a terribly funny movie at just the right times.
·The first Gainax ending that's not a Gainax ending!

So yeah. ****/*

There are definitely issues that could easily have been avoided, but by golly is the movie great. I don't think the rape stuff hurts the movie that much, either—at its worst, the film sort of glances over Riquinni's quirks in personality, instead making her into a cipher later on. There wasn't enough in that sequence to screw over Shiro's progression either, since he stops getting drunk and tired once shit hits the fan. My main complaint with RSF is that it can be both subtle and very head-on with the kind of story it's telling, especially that of Daicon Films triumphing against the thickest of odds. If Aoki Uru is anywhere near this level of unbridled ambition, trussed with solid execution, then I'll be more than satisfied.

I disagree on this point. It's always weird when movies have people from different countries speak in the same language as that of the protagonists. I thought the use of the fictional language in Honneamise authenticated the pseudo-historicity of the work, and instead of robbing it of familiarity it further reinforced the setting of the film as one that could stand apart even when taking the focus of the narrative away from it.

You put too much faith in Neo GAINAX. :(

Now that the entire season is out, I figured I'd try to get past that nauseating opening sequence and see why the show is so popular. So far so good, but please tell me that awful first person shaky cam isn't a staple of this show, I don't know how much of it I can handle. And people weren't kidding when they said this show was Saki with tanks, Miho's backstory seems to be pretty much taken right from there. It's so similar that it has to be deliberate.

Naw, it's all a front for all the angst that happens later in S1. There are many problems with the show, but the harem set up (in terms of it actually being a harem anime) isn't exactly one of them.

There's nothing wrong with the Republic language being used. I just think it sounds monotone and lifeless in practice. It's one thing to have different people speak differently, but it's another to go overboard and process the heck out of it. Because this sounds so robotic, I don't get the impression, within the film, that they're as human and compatible with individuals living in the Kingdom. But they are, which makes the sound design in any sequence involving the Republic leaders feel off.

Well, yeah, I guess the sound design of the movie is its weakest point. Maybe it's just my untrained ears, but I didn't catch that the dialogue was post-processed. I just chalked the stiffness of the dialog to bad voice acting.

There's a bit of that too, lol. Sound design's really consistent up until that point in RSF, though. It's a shame what happens when the first bit of Republic dialogue appears. And the less said about the music the better!
Okada should have gotten Hosono to do the soundtrack, not Sakamoto
.

I was reading the Animerica interview with Toshio Okada recently (due to Blue Uru fascination), and I'm intrigued by how this movie represents Gainax. There's even a bit of fanservice in for the viewers (I know, I know, that scene's not supposed to be like that at all).

The only thing that kinda bothers me is the protag's eyes. Looks way different than how the manga does it, but In Brain Base We Trust!

I'm not getting my hopes up for when we all inevitably find out that there's no elevation of the source material and that Brains Base is indeed just trying to get a piece of the LNshit pie due to financial desperation. After so many bombas in a row any season could be the season that they finally throw their hands up and become Manglobe 2.0.

You mean Sengoku Collection didn't push them over the edge already?
