Microsoft Studios' creative director has some choice words about always-online

I really have no problem with a always online requirement. None.

At least when PSN went down, people could still play single player.

Yeah that was a terrible time for Sony. Now if it happened to MS and you can't play anything for a month...damn. That fact alone would probably make them more of a target really, since some arse would just do it for the lulz.

If the console actually don't have drm bullshit. Would MS be marketing geniuses to you guys?
No. They would have dragged the company's name through the internets mud over nothing. No always online DRM bullshit is not a farfetched hope. It's a bare freakin minimum.

Nope. I have no reason to buy this console.

A console that officialy doesn't even exist?

Don't get me wrong, I won't buy it either if all rumors come true and Sony offers better 1st party support (compared to Durango, not currently, as we don't know what MS is cooking) but at least wait and see what they actually will offer.

I guess I don't have a problem being online all the time, as most point out we are, generally, online with our devices anyway.

What is the problem is not being able to turn it off. My connection is not good enough to allow me and my partner to play online at the same time on each of our consoles/PC.

This means that when one of us is online, the other is not, to ensure that the person online doesnt lag.

This would mean one of us simply not playing a console at all, rather than just signing out. That makes this unsuitable for my house.

This is the most important reason the "dude, this is total overreaction, nothing is confirmed"-crowd is so wrong. It's important to react strongly. Make it a difficult decision for Sony (i do think this is a done deal in regards to MS already)

I'd rather have Sony reaming MS with cheap shots over this than having them go the same way.

The pseudo-conspiracy theorist part of me is beginning to wonder if this is some sort of elaborate PR ruse conspired by Microsoft, aiming to convince Sony to flip their switch to block used games, right before they pull a bait and switch on the whole thing. Typical Ballmer plan.

Ok ok, i'm happy this thing grown incredibly but i left GAF when this topic was 30 pages and the two were doing damage control saying the the guy was joking about the cities
Something else happened since then?

I feel like now I'm apologizing for MS- I'm not, it sucks, etc. I just have to say that the majority of the purchasing audience has no idea that there is a new MS system coming, nor do they know or prob care about any of these rumors
Considering 20% of American homes don't even have an internet connection I'd say there is going to be a large amount of people who buy the 720, bring it home and immediately try to take it back to the store because they literally can't use it. And that's not even counting people that don't have a stable connection/have no interest in online gaming.

Assuming the rumors are true of course.

Haha, I can totally see Ballmer doing that.

Still no official response? Oh boy.

Like i said

Whatever always online is true or false,i would say this guy basically ruining,or even already ruined MS's announce plan

Not surprised if he get fired.

So i would say they're discussing how to respond right now, that Adam just make Microsoft on a very bad position
If i'm ballmer i won't just fire him,i may even wanna kill him

it seems MS hates itself.

or they are ready to do with the 720 what they did with the original Xbox : kill it quickly and make it much better the second time around.

the concept around always-on, kinect, apps and games is not a Xbox. it should be a new brand, born from the success of Xbox/Kinect/surface (lol, Xbox only I guess).

Where is so called GAF insiders?

It will be soooo funny of some of them confirms this. That will be huge and lots of fun :D

More will come out today thou :p

This douche fails to realise most people probably need a vacuum or a cell phone. Nobody needs an always online, kinect manditory set top box that will also need a gold sub.

is now taking requests

Genuine question: why would you not have a problem with an artificial limitation that can (either potentially or assuredly depending on where you live) have serious downsides, but with absolutely zero upside for you as a consumer?

I just don't understand the reasoning.

If this always online requirement turns out true I think it's pretty safe to assume that MS isn't interested in becoming the number one console worldwide, they just want to be relevant in the US and the UK and that's it.

In other words they don't give a fuck about the rest of Europe, Asia and South America.

But why would you want to live there though lol
