Microsoft Studios' creative director has some choice words about always-online

That's how I read it as well. It's him telling us the whole thing is bullshit, but he can't explicitly debunk it because its an unannounced product.

Anyone who has taken a Communications 101 class could have figured this out.

But insane, hyperbolic reaction instead of rational thought is a fun way to kill a Friday at work, I suppose.

Oh, this is rich coming from someone who accused the entire board to be pirates.

edit: oh, He's banned now.

Nope, not a problem for Microsoft according to some of the apologists here...

I have to ask... WHY?

Seriously, I don't understand.

I had an rrod as well a year after my warranty expired (barely ever played the thing yet somehow it broke anyways) and I would never consider replacing something with such a high known failure rate.

IT'S A WINE COOLER

No offense, but whose fault is this? I mean, fool me once, shame on you. And you know the rest. There's brand loyalty and then there's puzzling behavior such as yours. I would have said fuck it after the second time. You know what? That's exactly what I did.

Yeah sorry but at some point common sense has to take over.

jesus dude....man, that hw really was poorly built.

I feel for the guy because of my experience. Six RROD, One E74 over 4 different consoles (2 of which I brought)

The biggest piss take was in 2007. The console was away for 3 months being fixed. When I got it back, I purchased Forza 2 and an MS steering wheel. After just 2 hours, the console died again and it was just short of 3 months before it was returned.

The final straw which made me become mostly a PS3 gamer, was when I logged on to xbox live to play Forza again, a message from MS was waiting for me. Turned out the power pack for my steering wheel was a potential fire hazard and had to be returned.

And they wonder why I cancelled my LIVE subscription

What will MS pull out of the bag besides Gears and Halo? Sure hope MS has a bunch of exclusives lined up and i think Epic has got a few things baking for them but thats just hunch.

I'm sure they would have done a lot better if they could have waited to say "online only" after they got people built up on all the new features and games, and were able to use actually thought through defenses that doesn't include "move elsewhere" or "deal with it" when called out on it.

yeah. if this 'always online' thing's legit, & the 'spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down' approach was what they had in mind, this's kinda shot it full of holes :) ...

but, unannounced product or not, i still don't understand why, if they're not doing this, they couldn't simply say 'we have no plans to be going this route at this time'. i just don't get it. are they really pretending that, until they officially announce it, they aren't releasing a new console?...

IIRC Black Tusk Studios is supposedly working on a horror/sci-fi shooter, and it looks like Rare is working on a racing game.

"We apologize for the inappropriate comments made by an employee on Twitter yesterday. This person is not a spokesperson for Microsoft, and his personal views do not reflect the customer centric approach we take to our products or how we would communicate directly with our loyal consumers. We are very sorry if this offended anyone, however we have not made any announcements about our product roadmap, and have no further comment on this matter."

"We would still really like to sneak this feature in there if you guys don't hate us too much..."

So what's the agenda behind this anyway? Piracy? control? spying? I don't get it.

all of the above? I doubt piracy just because it doesn't seem like that big an issue on consoles (esp compared to PC), but certainly killing off used games in order to gain favor with third parties? I could see it.

I see your clueless and idiotic comments are branching out from the NFL thread. lulz.

You're late to the thread and now criticizing, thing never change.

oh god, for real? I'm clearly replying to some one before that post. Get off my dick.

When you finally find some time in your crappy busy life to play Diablo 3, Red Alert 3 (co-op), Assassin's Creed Brotherhood etc. but then find out that you actually can't, because their respective DRM servers were offline for some reason or other, it's freakin' frustrating.

If these rumours are true, then I'll be heading back to Sony provided that they're keen to put their customers first instead of kowtowing to the publishers.

Spying is kind of a strong word. 'Spying' in the same sense that facebook does, probably: data mining. Someone earlier mentioned a sort of nielson box plan - that sounds very believable to me. It's not necessarily malicious. Information privacy is kind of a gray area.

I don't know for sure, but I like to pretend it was for being a fanboy yesterday.

Bacon is definitely not a fanboy. I have seen that guy in every thread imaginable and he craps on everyone. He just has a panache for playing a great devils advocate at times. I like posters like that though, I mean come on Derrick why do you think I enjoy your posts so much ;)

It sucks because Bacon posting in this thread would have been hilarious.

NemesisPrime is banned as well (A dev).

I still think it's all about growing their ecosystem as much as possible.

If you can't see the obvious slant in his posts, then I don't know what to say.

I wish he was unbanned just to see his reaction. The damage control would have been delicious.

lol. You gotta be shitting me.

To be fair, that could be because the overall attitude right now is that Sony is doing great and fuck Microsoft. I'm not saying he's not biased, I'm not saying that the overall sentiment is wrong, I'm just saying that Bruce's point could still stand.
