I'm sure sitting on it kills hype, too. I mean really, Project X Zone was announced after Tales of Xillia for a translation, and it's coming out before it. D:
Tales of the Heroes: Twin Brave for PSN confirmed then....
Ahhhh, he made the joke before I did.Oh so is that when Lightning Returns is coming out?
Well it could add up if they really don't want to skip Xillia 2 after releasing Xillia 1 (since they really want to catch up to the latest console releases in Japan) but yeah, I don't think it would happen and it is mostly wishful thinking but I also can't think of what other Tales things could be announced for this year.
But whatever, hopefully we find out what he means by "Tales filled year" soon.
They did two releases that one year with Legendia and Abyss, so I wouldn't be surprised. Would help VA-wise if they got both games out of the way.
It isn't getting dubbed though, maybe that has something to do with it.
I wouldn't be surprised if the "late" release date for 1 is to give plenty of space to let Ni No Kuni breathe from earlier this year.
Xillia's English voice work has been done since November. Graces f's voicework finished in November of 2011 and it made it out for a March 2012 release ... I don't think Xillia's delay is entirely due to dubbing.
I certainly do believe Ni no Kuni had a certain effect, but would releasing Xillia in say, May, really detract from Ni no Kuni? Doubt it.
My theory is that we're getting a simultaneous launch with Europe, and that's what we're waiting on (they have to translate the script into 4 more languages).
It's most likely due to going for a simultaneous launch and due to the releases of other NB games. They want the games to be at least a month apart. Considering PxZ is coming out in June and Xillia was slated to be summer it's not surprising that this was going to come out July or August.
We're going to get a simultaneous launch considering the game is coming out in August. At that point Graces would have been out for a year. I don't think it's due to translation that we're waiting on but moreso waiting until it's been about a year since the last Tales launch.
Hmm, I still can't bring myself to care about this one.
It can't be typical Tales burnout this time, Graces was like, last March?
I like to compare the longrunning Tales action-RPG series to fast food: they're not particularly nutritious and you always know what you're gonna get, but when you've got the craving, they can't be beat. Hideo Baba, on the other hand, says they're more like gumdrops.
@bolded:
In 2012, they released a Naruto game and Graces f on the same day, lol. I honestly think Xillia would make a dent in XZone, not the other way around. I think they easily could have pushed back XZone rather than Xillia.
But I think translation for Europe definitely has something to do with it. Considering that the other 4 languages' text will be paired with the English audio and that translators from English to Spanish/German/French/Italian are probably much easier to come by than Japanese to S/G/F/I, it's likely the other 4 languages are being translated from English, meaning there is at a least a certain amount of lag between when the English translation started and when the other translations started.
August? Ugh. July would've been better.
That's not that bad.
And it's mentioned so casually in the article. Still finally it will be out though I am wondering about this teasing myself. It's more like a Tales filled second half of the year in any case.
They must have got confused, thats not in the same day as Lightning Returns.
I feel like Baba is just hyping up the announcement for the next Tales game on PS3. I don't think he meant that the surprise would be for overseas fans in particular.
I mean what are our possibilities currently?:
- Japanese announcement of the next PS3 Tales game
- Localization announcement of Xilla 2
- An anime project
- Worldwide release of another port on 3DS?
- PS1/PS2 Tales games on PSN
- Vesperia PS.... just kidding, that's never going to happen lol
I don't think a "Tales of filled year" actually means we're getting a year of Tales releases. The best us overseas will get will probably be an announcement for something coming out 2014.

I doubt they'd want to overshadow their premier title in Tales of Xillia with its sequel in the same fiscal year.Xillia 2 could happen this year if they started work on it already. True they did say it would come if Xillia sold well enough. But if they were confident maybe they already started?

Is it better then Graces f? Cause I hated that game.

well I kept the first option because it wouldn't be the first time Baba referred to japanese stuff in a western PR interview. He (wisely?) assumes the fanbase is up to date on the japanese announcements.I don't think he'd be talking about Japan to the Western press. As long as they make localization announcements I think that fills the "Tales filled year" thing he's talking about. I don't expect any other Tales games released here besides Xillia, but if they can announce Xillia 2's localization (for a release early 2014?) this year too that's good. Same goes for the eventual new PS3 Tales, though I'd imagine they'd announce that after Xillia 2 would release.
4 months is far too short of a turnaround time for Xillia 2. It doesn't make financial sense to release them within 4 months of each other. Even Atlus waited 6 months inbetween its DDS games.Xillia 2 could happen this year if they started work on it already. True they did say it would come if Xillia sold well enough. But if they were confident maybe they already started.
Or maybe their big game for Japan this year is a 3DS title and we'll be getting that too?
And Baba made it pretty clear that the next big Tales game is on PS3.

In all honesty, I can see NB skipping over Xillia 2 entirely to do a simultaneous release for their next title.
No way in hell they'd do this.

They settled for within a month of SMTIV.They must have got confused, thats not in the same day as Lightning Returns.

Graces f has the most cohesive and versatile combat system in the franchise from what I played. Xillia is more akin to Vesperia. If you enjoyed Vesperia then you will most likely enjoy Xillia. The story is a lotttttttttttttttttt better than Graces.
