OreImo 2 - 1

The only show this season that I care enough about to watch live! (Not counting Precure, of course. I'll watch that live every season for the next 30 years.)
Just to be safe (since I know everyone and their mother will be watching this eventually!), my usual stream of conciousness junk will be all-spoilered.
- Flashback! loli-Kirino is cute as expected. She should un-dye her hair again.

- That line about how his sister is super-great and smart and cute and sportsy and perfect is (I think) the same one that started S1 and the PSP game. That consistency.

- I wasn't prepared for this level of tsun. Did they really not progress past this in the anime? I've forgotten...

- Ah, my angel Ayase. Kanako is sharp, heh. Calling lilies as she sees 'em.

- And Ruri is terrible again. Ths is your arc, get your shit in gear already.

- At least GenDad is being dere. I guess all of his development is done by now.

- 2013 truly is the year of the magical girl, even OreImo understands. I guess dumping tons of budget into Meruru is also a continuation of last season.

- That huehuehue laugh gets me every time. Gif please.

- Ah, it's over. So short! Nothing happened! I worry for the pacing now. This seemed to cover about a quarter of Volume 6, but mushed things together and changed the order of some events, so it's hard to say. At this rate, one cour will only get us to Volume 9 out of 12!

- Overall, it's kind of refreshing when nothing has changed at all from last season, but at the same time... Well, there's no way it can stay like this forever if they're adapting all 12 novels, so it's not a big deal, I guess.
- Verdict: As expected, Go and watch it immediately.jpg.

Geez, I've seen better draw distance in GTA San Andreas... the PS2 version.

Unfortunately, the still background character derp face, the seemingly low framerate, and terrible lip synching, all distracted me far too much to pay attention to what's going on in the show to jog my memory of what I've read in the manga.

I'll applaud it for being different, even though i feel like throwing up now.

Is that rotoscope?

Pretty cool if so.

I'm a bit confused what the big deal was about this show?

Anyway, I got a HUGE Final Fantasy VIII vibe during this episode. It reminded me of the SeeD exam, to be exact, and kinda developed in the same way now that I think about it.

What I like:
- 4 out of the 5 characters.
- Sawashiro in a Quistis-style role.
- That :chet on the lead engineer or whoever.

What I didn't like:
- The genki girl is damn annoying.
- The soundtrack feels really uninspired.

Maou-sama is simple but well-made and directed. That's good and sadly more than you can say about the most anime each season.

I don't know too much about direction, but it definitely feels this way.

So am I the only one who thinks Maou is a bit too overdirected, in that things seem a bit too grand or forced? I understand part of that is a joke but then there are stuff like the fisheye lens and the camera angles that don't really add anything. I thought AnimeGaf was going to jump down the show's throat for that.

So, I have a quick question. I apologize if it is not in the correct thread!

Today, I watched the first episode of Neon Genesis Evangelion, as a co-worker said it was amazing. I thought that the concept was really cool, and that the main character is rather annoying. So, is this a good anime to watch?

Also, I saw that there are movies in higher definition that sum up the show itself, called Evangelion 1.11 and what not. My co-worker owns the DVD set, and he tells me that it is a much better source.

So... to sum it up:
Should I watch this show?
If so, what format should I watch?

Thank you!
Yes, consume it fully without concern. Let it rend your emotions as it did mine.

Just checked Steetpass Plaza and I see I did pass DiGi and BluWacky at the BFI.

Why does no-one ever wear a white T-shirt? I need a Mii with light powers to do the screen in StreetPass Quest I'm stuck on :(

Also yes, it IS the year of Luigi, you are most correct.

That was alright. The action was good, but all the character stuff fell really flat. The dynamics between the pilots simply aren't interesting to watch. I do see where Duckroll was coming from in terms of the tone, but I'm not a big fan of it.

I do like the different mechanic crews, though.

What I didn't like:
- The genki girl is damn annoying.

Oh my god she is the worst. She has one personality trait and they ram it in your face over and over and over. If she doesn't change that'd be enough to make me drop it.

It'd be so nice to have a well-animated, and funny, fantasy-action show.

I could enjoy this. Emilia > FauxPoplar

I wouldn't call a few flourishes here and there 'overdirection.'

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I thought this was really, really good. I guess this means I'm now a member of some camp that's diametrically opposed to some other people.

[Death Billiards]

I really enjoyed this well. I had no problem with the ambiguity of the narrative, or the twists and turns that the story went through. In the end it was a character study and it's pretty easy to see what kind of characters these gentlemen had. However, as a character study I think we needed to learn a bit more about these folks then we actually got.

Also, I thought the ending was a little flat despite the fact that the ambiguity doesn't bother me.

That was awesome, its felt like thing that Madhouse used to make ;__;
The ambiguous ending also felt appropriate considering the theme, the swift flashback are great too, its shouldn't longer than that though because its already so effective.

LWA is better but Death Billiards have concept that anyone wouldn't make something similar soon, so I more intrigued to it as shorts.

Old Madhouse ;__;

That cell argument soo good.
This show handles its drama waaaay too well for a Gundam show wtf. Good episode. I'd write more but I want to get to EP7 at least tonight.

I'd say the pacing goes south after eps 6

Plenty that disagree with me, but everything after that felt disjointed.
I hope you are wrong because everything so far has been pretty great.

GTO 34-36

Episodes with Tomoko are just not fun, glad this chapter was only limited to 1. Epi 35 was better, Kunio suspects his sexy mother is gonna marry someone... The last is Azusa trying to find a swimsuit and showing her feminine side, her breasts are too small and she gets mocked because of that. These felt like filler episodes, preparing for the trip to Okinawa.

Animegaf did splinter on the day of its airing.

We won't be around by the time episode 13 airs.

This article confirms he reads neogaf lol it has links which chickdigger and I posted lol.

What he didn't know is that it requires a cwcheat hack to reveal those pantsu.

Considering the age of that video, among other things, I doubt it.

08th MS Team is truly one of the finest entries in the franchise. It's the kind of thing that can happen when you don't have Tomino writing characters.

It felt like parts were done simply to 'show off' if you will. I remember a conversation with duckroll where he mentioned that he praised naturalism in a production and I think people were agreeing with him. I simply thought more people would have had an issue with it. Again I acknowledge parts of it are obviously done for comedic effect though.

Good because episode 7 was I think the last decent episode. :p

Hataraku Maou-sama! - 1

I love this kind of concept. What's it called, 'fish on dry land' or something? It's like the reverse of Zero no Tsukaima.

If they could write it right, this kind of show could easily be a great gateway for some social commentary or Japanese culture. I don't think this show will go that far though, so I'm perfectly happy to just see some funny situations instead. I'm liking this show already.

EDIT: Wow, people went deep into analyzing this rather simple show. I think the 'over-direction' is part of the comedy, because it's supposed to be some grand legend of the rise of the Dark Lord Satan. But with a detour working at McRonalds instead!

It's "fish out of water".

I think it's just going to be a silly comedy and presumably more people from the demon world will appear and cause hijinks. And I might be okay with that! I quite enjoyed the first episode, and I never like anime comedies!

Someone actually mentioned on the AS forums that it actually balances the dark/light tone throughout the show and it isn't just one-off like in the intro. I can't verify that though.

That's about it, really. That said I don't remember it standing out (in a negative way that you pointed out), at all, direction-wise.

I prefer the rotoscoped future to the CG future. There, I said it.

Flash future is where it's at.

So long as they stop with the elfbabble.

Its type of story that can get dry fast though. next eps preview already kinda show it.

Let see how they handle it.

Comedy truly is the hardest genre.

So long as they stop with the elfbabble.

The odd thing about the fantasy language was that my mind couldn't map it to Japanese, despite me not knowing anything about the language but some choice phrases. It immediately picked up it was something different.

Kinda crazy when you think about it.

Space Brothers 52:
As recap episodes go, it wasn't bad. I got emotional all over again during a couple of the scenes from the first episode. I did think it was kind of funny that a recap episode in Episode 52 basically just condensed the first two episodes of the show, though. I get why they're doing recap episodes (since the timeslot changed), but hopefully we can get back to the story after next week's.

It's pure recap, nothing new that's worth seeing?

It's not crazy at all. Languages have a distinct sound and flow to them, and you don't need to understand a language to recognize it.

How do Japanese otaku watch these shows? Stay up late then sleep 3-4 hours before the day begins? Sleep beforehand? Record it on VHS, or whatever technology?

Well I miscalculate a bit =p

Its still a bit late than most prolific otaku anime though, I guess they airing again tomorrow like ducky said.

They're not airing it "again" though. To be clear, MBS serves the Kansai region in Japan (Osaka), while Tokyo MX, as the name suggests, serves the Kanto region (Tokyo). So for the Tokyo audience, it basically airs on Sunday at 11:30pm, while for people in Osaka it airs at 2am on Saturdays late nights.
