well might as well post my prediction.

vita 30.000. yes i predict it will hold its ground .

on another note something ive been meaning to ask :

IF the wii u turns up dead and buried , would a single console( PS4) and two handhelds( 3DS + VITA) be a beneficial future for both nintendo and sony and japanese games in general?

I can guarantee this isn't happening. I'm predicting it drops to 23K.

Personally I'm praying for the Iwata+Reggie combo to gtfo :D

I wasn't a couple of years ago, but with NOA actively attempting to sabotage results by not bringing games over and then not having confidence in their games ability to sale, thus, leaving them with their pants down when games sell out, and Iwata pushing for a 100B Yen profit next year, when then need to be talking about a strategic loss to turn Wii U around, I'm feeling more in that direction, personally. Still really like Iwata and would love it if he could stay at an important position in the company to give him reason to keep doing the Nintendo Directs, but they need someone with seemingly more business acumen running that company, right now.

They lost money lost year, probably will have this year. They can't afford a third year of losses. They have numerous games launching on 3DS that could sell over 1+ and at least one that will make it over 10 million (WW, that is). 3DS is now selling for a profit.

They don't need to lose (more) money to make the Wii U a success, they just need to release games.

Hometown Story hasn't even been announced for Japan bizarrely.

I did not know this. Bizarre.

For selfish reasons, I don't really care (much) about the Wii U's third party support or financial success, since Nintendo consoles are primarily about Nintendo games for me. And under Iwata, Nintendo has put out some of my all-time favourite games.

Plus, Iwata Asks are da fucking bomb. So I want Iwata to stay, even if the shareholders want to oust him.

Reggie can get the hell out of town, though.

I'd really like to see Iwata win over the shareholders and stay but the poor sod is doomed. Hopefully he'll get the chance to stay in one capacity or another.
As for Reggie, maybe his hands are tied but he seems to have done bugger all for a while now. Maybe a third 'Satoru' is needed to form a 'Holy Trinity of Satoru...'

He's conflating shipment expectations with actual sales when he definitely knows better. It's disingenuous at best and trolling at worst which seems par for the course lately.
Except they were sales expectations, not shipment expectations.

Whoever initially decided Xenoblade shouldn't be brought to NA, despite work already done/being done by NoE, should be let go.

Noone cares - those 3 Operation Rainfall games had ultra niche appeal. GAF is pissed off but for shareholders it's last on the list of issues Nintendo have.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Iirc Ni No Kuni outsold Xenoblade in the states. It sold around 160k in the US.

Err...I don't want to ruin your reaility but you...God, I need to say it with the right words...you know that not only we didn't have numbers for Xenoblade ever, but...here's the difficult part...it was sold just at GameStop, right? It was a GameStop exclusive.

*looks up his post*Yes, it seems I found a good way to say it.

yes, but he's gone now. to when or where, i don't know. i just know that theorizing that one could travel within his own lifetime, satoru iwata led an elite group of scientists into the desert to develop a top secret project, known as the 'vitality sensor.' pressured to prove his theories or lose funding, iwata prematurely used the vitality sensor and vanished. he awoke to find himself in the past, suffering from partial amnesia and facing a mirror image that was not his own. fortunately, contact with his own time was made through brainwave transmissions with dean stockwell, the project observer, who appeared in the form of a hologram that only iwata could see and hear. trapped in the past, iwata finds himself leaping from life to life, putting things right that once went wrong and hoping each time that his next leap will be the leap home.

Fucking awesome.

To bad it wasn't sold in a larger franchise of game stores it might have had a chance.

I'm fairly sure that it did really well in America (and to some extent Europe) even being a GameStop exclusive.

Edit: Also, sometime after launch you could find the game at Best Buy and other retailers in the US.

How are we getting to the conclusion that xenoblade performed horribly in the states? "Never stood any chance" ... Do we have any numbers?

Errrr...so my post was correct? Making Xenoblade a gamestop exclusive was a bonehead move but nevertheless it is reasonable to say Ni No Kuni outsold it right because the latter did appear in the top 10 NPD for the month it was released in.

That was my point. That "noone cares" about "ultra niche games" is erroneous

Oh yeah I totally agree.

...Xenoblade would have appeared on the NPD charts, but it was excluded because it was a retailer exclusive. It was predicted to be #3 or #4 during April 2012.

Spotted this at Eurogamer

'It's unclear how much Ni No Kuni has sold - it shifted at least 500,000 copies in Japan, while another 164,000 units were shipped for the game's recent Western release.'

Is Eurogamer including the DS version in that 500K sold statement for japan?

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...el-5-announces-work-on-new-playstation-4-game

This part of the article is misleading.

If he wanted to include both Ni no Kuni versions, he should have said that it shifted over 700.000 units in Japan. Besides, he should have specified that the figure he provides for the West is just for the US market.

I see your reasoning now and it is mistaken. It didn't appear in the NPD charts because it was a gamestop exclusive. Else, if we used your same reasoning but taking into account xenoblade's "estimated" rank, we'd say it outsold ni no kuni.

If all 3 sold 160k that's still <500k - Mario spinoffs sell more than that.

Whats your point? A game can still be successful despite not selling much, niche developers such as GUST and NIS show us this. They still localize games such as Disgaea and Atelier because they want to support their fanbase in the West too and you know in the long term this could be beneficial.

...Xenoblade would have appeared on the NPD charts, but it was excluded because it was a retailer exclusive. It was predicted to be #3 or #4 during April 2012.

We could be here all day saying yeah well it would of, should of, could of, if this and that happened but at the end of the day the fact is that it didn't.

Who made this prediction? I doubt it would be accurate because this is a new IP.

I'm not sure how anyone would place Xenoblade on April 2012's NPD chart, since there was so little information. I looked up the old thread and could only find that the number 1 title sold less than 236K.
A sales analyst from PiperJaffray.

We can be fairly confident that it did better than Mario Party 9, which charted at #7.
I don't think that's a post-results analysis. It's a pre-results prediction. And it was seemingly wrong about the best selling title for the month.

A new report from analyst firm PiperJaffray projects that the upcoming NPD results for April 2012 will show U.S. video game software sales have declined significantly year-over-year.

So its just another one of those random analysts chiming in on how much something sells.

EA and BioWare's Mass Effect 3 was the highest-selling game title in the U.S. during April, says the report, followed by Activision's Prototype 2 and Nintendo-published Xenoblade Chronicles.

April 2012 NPD

1.Prototype 2 (360, PS3)
2.Kinect Star Wars (360)
3.Call of Duty: Modern Warfar 3 (360, PS3, Wii, PC)
4.Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 (360, PS3)
5.NBA 2K12 (360, PS3, Wii, PSP, PC, PS2)
6.The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings (360, PC)
7.Mario Party 9 (Wii)
8.Mass Effect 3 (360, PS3, PC)
9.Just Dance 3 (Wii, 360, PS3)
10.MLB 12: The Show (PS3, PSV)

lol. I have no words.

The fact is that you are using a "could've" to compare its sales to Ni No Kuni, when we don't have any concrete numbers for Xenoblade sales in the US nor do we have NPD data for it.
Edit: And yet you are posting these same charts from an article that explains the xenoblade NPD situation. All of this, while responding in a pretty aggressive/provocative way. At least, aknowledge your mistake before calling out others.

I ain't paid to make these predictions. :p Regardless, we don't necessarily have conclusive evidence either way.

Not everything is just about the money, you need to keep your loyal fanbase happy, mindshare goes a long way.

Really now..thats like comparing CoD to Sniper Ghost Elite. Not everything has to sell billions to make a profit.

We could be here all day saying yeah well it would of, should of, could of, if this and that happened but at the end of the day the fact is that it didn't.

...and Ninokuni wasn't?

lol since when do shareholders care about that? those bleeding hearts want Nintendo first parties on mobile devices. they don't give a crap about the fanbase

You cited the source saying your were fairly confident in it doing better than MP9. Where does this confidence come from? The source was disastrously wrong.

Maybe I came across it wrongly but what I meant to say was that its reasonable to say Ni No Kuni outsold Xenoblade as the former has sold 160k (first two months iirc) while the latter I doubt had a debut exceeding 83k (Kid icarus was specially mentioned as being present in the top 10 individual SKU and it had a debut of 83k so the disregard of Xenoblade in the top 10 SKU makes me assume it debuted below).

I wish I was paid to make these predictions lol. Not that I would get them right.

Its also reasonable to say Xenoblade outsold Ninokuni in the west because it outsold it in Japan.

How does this make any sense? They are two different market with different tastes in gaming. Tokyo Jungle outsold Xenoblade in Japan therefore its reasonable to say it outsold Xenobalde in the West is what your saying and its a poor prediction because the two markets differ greatly.

Why would you assume that it debuted below? I don't think it's necessarily fair to say either outsold the other.

Edit: No actual numbers, but Reggie did say in regards to Xenoblade:

"We needed to make sure that there was really an opportunity for it. We wanted to see how it would sell in Europe, and based on the performance in Europe, we would look to bring it here to the U.S. It did well in Europe; we decided to bring it in here. We took a very smart approach and we sold it ourselves online in terms of physical goods as well as a focus on GameStop as a retailer, and it was a very good effort for us. (It sold) Quite well."

Anyway, why are we losing the time comparing the sales of two games when we don't even know how much one of them sold? that cannot be more pointless.
