• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

What are Nintendo's developers up to?

I hope Grezzo's working in some capacity on Zelda 3DS. They did a great job with OoT3D and I'd like to see what they'd do for an original Zelda game.

They shuffle around the offices and try to look busy. Go on long lunch breaks. Waste time playing demo units.

Sometimes Miyamoto storms randomly into rooms and flips tables. It's a stressful job.

Making a wild prediction here:

Pokemon Stadium/ Colosseum by Genius Sonority for WiiU.

That wouldn't really be so wild ;)

Finally.

Streets, correct this one.

They said in their blog and on various occassions they are interested into another Chibi Robo.

Did they? I confused them for Noise and Custom Robo at one point who did say they wanted to develop more games, but I'm not sure about Chibi Robo.

To be fair, I think Nintendo pretty much spilled the beans on most of their upcoming projects on the previous ND (bowing to investor pressure and decreased interest in Wii U). The only surprise I expect at E3 is Retro's new game.

And then HAL Labs drops Mother 4.

Anyway, hopefully IS is developing a new Paper Mario for Wii U.

And it should look like this:

There have been strong suggestions that point to Headstrong Games working on an unannounced Wii U project at this time.

Will add to the OP.

Does Retro have two development teams now? I remember reading an interview around the time they were working on DKCR that said half the studio was blocked of from journalists to keep a second project secret.

These are like 4 months old now - written before Pokemon X&Y and the 2 crazy Nintendo Directs were revealed. Can anyone fix 'em?

FIRST PARTY: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=45856330&postcount=23

SECOND PARTY: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=45856360&postcount=26

THIRD PARTY: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=45859695&postcount=71

Include in OP edited? Link to them? In a seperate post?

looking at this ..it looks like Nintendo is soo disorganized with its development studios

In what way?

I think they've pretty much laid most of their cards out on the table during the big Nintendo Directs in January and February. Only big reveal/announcement left that we know will be coming is Retro's game. I'm sure there are a few other games that we don't know about at E3 as well, but I expect Retro's game to be the big wow besides the ones we already know.

I honestly don't get why there hasn't been a Nintendo Direct for 2 months now...they can't just wait until E3 for another set of announcements because that leaves the rest of April and May to be filled with absolutely nothing.

They could always have something to show from HAL, Tokyo EAD 1, or Headstrong and we're yet to see the Wii Sports U officially. They have so many games announced for this thing, though, there probably won't be that much, short of real surprises.

There's been a few mini-Directs in Japan (Flip Note, Tomodachi Collection), but with the end of Financial Year results releasing on the 24th, I expect they'll have something around then in order to bolster investor confidence.

And Advance Wars. Please.

I cannot find anything on this. Do you have a link or something in the general direction (site/mag name)?
They hired up to about 80+people before the summer of last year. What he meant could possibly be the beefed up and rumored 3DS team that helped work on mario kart and by now maybe something else if Nintendo needed the man power

I did a quick search a while back but couldn't find anything. It was more than likely on one of the big gaming sites, I think it might have been IGN. All I remember was pictures of the doors and windows covered and them saying they weren't allowed to go past those points.

I really think retro game should drop this year. If it was possible to be shown last year E3 then shit it should be possible to drop this year.

Well they showed Luigi's Mansion 2 in 2011, and that thing didn't drop til last month. I don't think when it was ready to be unveiled has anything to do with it...

I love these threads! Nice work.

word is iwata has been seen around the suicide room in nintendo of japan. if true i wouldn't expect much at e3.

Interesting. Was it really as much as 80 people? That sounds like a lot. Watch it be Mario Kart U, while Konno's team is doing F-Zero Trix.

EDIT: http://kyoto-report.wikidot.com/retro-studios-personnel-tracker

According to this, they've hired about 36 people over 2010-2012, and are now at 89 employees, which might be where the confusion is.

So...adding today's announcements:

Mario Party 3DS is being done by ND Cube.

Yoshi's Island 3DS is being done by ???.

Zelda 3DS is being done by ???.

i'd be shocked if this Zelda game wasn't done as a collaboration between Grezzo and Nintendo. it feels too similar to the last game they helped out with (4 swords anniversary)

edit: shit

I really dont know when wiiu games will be out with as many people they have on 3DS

Many of those 3DS games are being done by handheld only studios, anyway.
EAD doesn't have anything except Zelda (which is likely co-developed) for 3DS right now.

This is where my money is.

Perhaps NST is workin' on Yoshi's Island? I'm fairly sure Arzest is doing StreetPass enhancements, so they might be too busy.

I'd say it's even-stevens at this point between NST, Arzest, and EAD, but who knows? We may not know until the game is released/Iwata Asks.

Also, Ganbarion (Pandora's Tower) has been talking about Wii U: http://www.siliconera.com/2013/04/18/pandoras-tower-developer-thinking-of-ideas-for-wii-u-games/

Gonna go update the OP with the new games.

Trinen supposedly confirmed to press that EAD (Aonuma-san's group) was developing the 3DS Zelda. Then Nintendo's press site, and another Trinen quote on Kotaku? mentions EAD developing it.

Looking at the game it does look a lot like members of the spirit tracks team. Who knows though. It very well might be EAD"s last 3DS game while SPD takes it from here on there.

I didn't think animal crossings on their home consoles sold as well anyway? Doesn't seem like there would be any point in bringing out another one too soon. I would have thought they would want to spread it out, if they were... Especially as the 3ds one is only just about to be released in the west. It would be better for that team to work on something else/ dlc for the 3ds one.

They should skip Animal Crossing Wii U and let that team try something new.

nintendo land ? wii sports u ? or do you want like a spin off

they were saying the same stuff about OoT 3D early on, no? could just be planning done by them

Obviously they won't but he and I are looking at it from the viewpoint of gamers. We would love to see the team try something new.

And I'm sure they'd love it if we rewarded them when they do by actually purchasing them.

The reality however...

I hope Camelot can do better with a GS4(they have the entire story outlined).

But we'll see.

I'm more eager for Retro's, Monolith's, and Treasure's projects.

They don't sell as well, no. They still sell millions of copies, with a relatively small investment.

Aonuma said "we decided to make it a game" during Ocarina 3D. Which was misleading as EAD only did the production and music while Grezzo did the gritty work. Trinen/Nintendo supposedly said EAD is developing it. I'm sure it was in response to some press member asking if "Grezzo was developing this", which is definitely an expected question.

Again. Aonuma-sans planning team is involved in 3 Zelda titles right now. Obviously, a high bet that at least one of them has a high outsider presence. But we shall wait until that is revealed I guess.

Indeed, it does look as though it's EAD developed, but it doesn't preclude a scenario where some development is out-sourced or they're other companies working on it, too. It will be interesting if this is the last EAD game for 3DS ever, but it looks like it will be for a while, since they're pretty much covered all the series.

With how much Animal Crossing New Leaf sold that won't happen.

They do now have a great opportunity to make Animal Crossing Wii U a massive game though, make it an mmo, expand the world, etc.

There is a chance the game is being co-developed by GREZZO as it somewhat fits the timeline of development (OoT 3D and FS Anniversary were 2011), but I do feel most of the development for this one resides with the handheld team (Spirit Tracks was 2009, no?) with smattering of GREZZO help.

Either way, I have no doubt that GREZZO is working on either WWHD, LTTP2, or both in some capacity.
