Metro: Last Light system requirements are out (first game that recommends Titan?)

It is a single GPU. He's thinking of the GTX 690. Which is a $1,000 dual-GPU card with two 680s (underlocked like 590? I don't know).

I have a GTX 590, which is two underclocked 580s on 1 board. Problem is VRAM constraints, though. I only have 1.5GB of VRAM available to me. I don't know if Nvidia fixed all that bullshit for their 690, but I hope so. 590 launched with an incredible amount of issues, I regret purchasing it, but I can still play games downsampled at 60fps, so it's not a total waste.

In hindsight I should have just bought two 580s and put them in SLI for a nominal extra cost, my rig is two years old now, but that was top of the line when I built it.

Yeah sorry I got confused.

Has just been confirmed on geforce.com by Admin

"Folks, Optimum is talking about 2560x, max DirectX 11 game settings with full-res fullscreen effects, DirectX 11 object and environment tessellation, 2048x2048 textures, and hardware PhysX effects.

The game is highly optimized, allowing 4A to run all that stuff simultaneously at such a high resolution on one TITAN, two 670s, two 680s, or one 690. If it weren't optimized this would be impossible"

http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/articles/metro-last-light-bundle

I am hoping for at least 30 fps with lower AA at 1080p on a gtx 680.

Sup?

Disappointing. "Titan" should be remove from the thread title.

Haha, what? You're disappointed that 4A are able to dynamically swap elements in and out of VRAM to avoid issues on 2GB cards?

Metro 33 was already optimized like crap, so no surprises here. Would buy if the game was actually fun this time...

edit: Ok, the above sounds relatively reasonable.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Seeing things like this and Crysis 3 already I worry about the longevity of my new PC. It's ok if there are xxxtreme settings meant for dual gpus or $1000 gpus mind. Anyone with that kind of setup should be able to supersample to hell and back and get some extra flair obviously. But I still want nice optimized graphics in high resolution for my 7970 without disabling things the art style and visual flair are designed around or suffering less than optimal performance. It's still supposed to be a flagship high end GPU, just not a ridiculous one. If I have to disable big things or get some alternative setting that is ugly because they only had the artists focus on the high end, as they're bound to start doing if it's the norm to spend that much effort on the high end features, that's no good. That Nvidia quote doesn't mention framerates for either setting/gpu level so it's kind of useless.

Can't wait to play this maxed in 3Dvision.

First one is astonishing in 3D (once you fix the fov).

And the game looks it actually is optimized. Optimum specs are crazy. My titan is ready.

There goes my hope of buying a 7850 for a smooth transition into next gen.

I don't know man, I may be wrong, but I don't think even half of next gen games will have the kinds of crazy full res effects this game does (at least the console versions), so that doesn't say much, really.

Just like there are games that overall look better than Metro 2033 while getting higher framerates, but don't have half of the graphical features Metro does.

I'm guessing it's just as horribly optimised as its predecessors'. My framerate drops by like 10+ frames when I look at a certain light in a small room, for example.

Well, the optimum is using 1440p and i only game @ 1440*900 (900p) so i'm gonna max this bitch out as much as possible. i5 750 @ 3.8ghz + GTX 670 2gb... might need more ram though...i only have 4gb ddr3 1600

Minimum reqs is a frigging gt250, any geforce card with gt and not gtx is a multimedia card, this is a 5 year old one.

poorly optimimamised they say.

I am disappointed that the game doesn't take advantage of >2GB of VRAM. When a game dynamically limits to 2GB VRAM, like BF3, graphic quality is being sacrifice, like draw distance, textures and etc., even if the fps seems to be same. At least on a Titan, shouldn't be happening.

These games are still being built with console 2005 hardware in mind... It's annoying I know

But they still clearly made an effort to support high to highest end hardware so I'm not too mad at em

Finally a game that stresses current hardware and people complain? WTF

I am going to assume the game maxed out at 2560x1600p will crush anything currently available.

These guys are supposed to know the PC through and through and their way of optimizing the game at its best is a 690 or Titan. Poorly optimized dogshit confirmed. $10 or less just like the 2033 :-\

What the heck are you talking about?

A game that scales up well is released and people start whining because they can't run it on it's maximum settings in an insane resolution. Doesn't make any sense.

You're making yourself look like an idiot.

Last Light's rockin' a shadow res of 9.43 Mpix with sub-scattering skin shading, bump mapping, soft particles, AO, parallax mapping, analytical AA, volumetric texturing, environmental tessellation, object tessellation, PhysX, 3D Vision, and some other stuff too.

Have you read the thread? Titan is for 4k all maxed out.

For "normal" 1080p settings its not needed.

Are the settings in the game still presets that change a bunch of settings (as in 2033) or can we finally tweak individual settings like we all want too?

I ran the first Metro on a single GTX470 at the time. Ran like shit. Was still mind blown. :p

Hopefully they'll give us more graphic options this time. Presets are no no.

AndyBNV, what fps I can expect from this: i7 3930k + 2x680 SLI + 16GB RAM everything maxed.

All settings maxed out, ~60fps at downsampled resolutions. Maybe not 4K, but definitely enough to effectively eliminate aliasing.

Why would you even ask?

I think all desktops i7s have 4+ cores, someone botched those specs.

I remember the textures in Metro 2033 being fairly high-res, but I've never played the Xbox 360 to make any comparison.

If the high res 2033 textures are the same with the XBOX I'll eat my hat.

LOL, I don't think 60fps at that res is possible in this game with my setup, prob 20~30fps or less.

If you get 20 frames per second on that hardware, it would be worthy of riots.

I instantly edited my post about 60fps at 4k, though. That's not going to happen on two 680s, more like two Titans. But if you are willing to downsample from a lower resolution, 60fps maxed out should be expected. I'm 100% sure that you will be able to find a competent configuration of Shadow, AA, and Resolution settings that will give you a locked framerate and just about the best graphical quality the game is capable of achieving.

I tried to get into the first Metro but good god was it mediocre. Are people really hyped by this?

I can't wait to pick it up for 5 euros in a steam sale next year.
I too thought the gunplay of metro2033 was total crap so no I'm not hyped for the game.
Technology and graphics are cool though (if it's actually something new that raises the bar)

Why are there so many posts complaining of poor optimization? Is there any evidence of this, or does it have to do with the Titan/690 "Optimum" guidelines? I would think the minimum requirements would be a better indicator of optimization, if you must go that route.

I'm starting to get nervous with my single 680 though. Not complaining, I'm loving these demanding games.

edit: oh I see, thread title is somewhat misleading and some people don't read OP. They "recommend" 560/660, "optimum" is mostly useless - just stating the obvious. The best setups will run the game the best.

I love how people on here saying the game running at 2560x1440/1600 with all the bells and whistle turned on and running at a smooth frame rate as not being optimized.

Considering that the game can run on this:

Minimum
Windows: XP (32-Bit), Vista, 7 or 8
CPU: 2.2 GHz Dual Core e.g. Intel Core 2 Duo
RAM: 2GB
Direct X: 9.0c
Graphics Card:
DirectX 9, Shader Model 3 compliant e.g. NVIDIA GTS 250 (or AMD equivalent e.g. HD Radeon 4000 series) or higher

It's safe to say they did a good job making this thing run on 7 year old computer hardware.

The game can run on a GTS 250....

What the hell are some of these posters on here talking about optimization.

I don't know if it's the thread title that's misleading some people, but the game recommends a 660ti..

Yup. Any game that needs fricken Titan to run at Optimal levels shows a dev that can't optimize for shite.

Now I really can't tell if we're trolling/satirizing. Games will always look best on monster hardware, right? Is this a difference of opinion on the meaning of "optimum"?

*Sigh*

Game comes out with graphics that are marginally better than consoles, runs super easy on a wide range of hardware...people bitch. "The PC is being ignored, we're being held by consoles!"

Game comes out with graphics that are specific to the PC version, cutting edge, and requires top end hardware to run ALL (not some, but every single) effect at once...people bitch because it won't magically run on everything.

You guys confuse me sometimes.

Halt! We're reaching critical mass, when the number of people complaining about the people complaining could exceed the number of people complaining. And I'm sorry for contributing, lolol.
