MORE THAN 20 MILLION PHYSICAL COPIES OF NINTENDO 3DS GAMES HAVE BEEN SOLD IN THE U.S.

April 18, 2013

Fueled by strong starts for Luigi's Mansion™: Dark Moon and Pokémon™ Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, and the continued strength of Fire Emblem Awakening, Nintendo 3DS™ crossed 20 million total units of software sold at retail in the United States, according to the NPD Group.

Some notable sales numbers* achieved by Nintendo in March include:

- Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon sold nearly 365,000 physical units in March, and has now sold more than 415,000 combined physical and digital units to date.

- Fire Emblem Awakening sold an additional 64,000 combined physical and digital physical copies in March, and has now sold more than 240,000 combined units to date.

- Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity sold more than 145,000 combined physical and digital units for the month.

- Total sales of Nintendo 3DS software at retail increased by more than 50 percent over March 2012.

That momentum should only grow in the next few months as Nintendo prepares for a massive slate of Nintendo 3DS software releases, including: LEGO® City Undercover: The Chase Begins on April 24, Donkey Kong Country™ Returns 3D on May 24, Animal Crossing™: New Leaf on June 9 and Mario and Luigi™: Dream Team on Aug. 11.

Additionally, in a Nintendo Direct that aired on April 17, Nintendo announced or provided more details about new entrants in the Yoshi's Island™, Mario Party™, The Legend of Zelda™ and Mario Golf™ franchises for the Nintendo 3DS system.

That is one of the saddest paragraphs I've read in a PR statement for some time. Holy crap.

Did I miss anything or is this the first time they mention G&W's release date?

Fire Emblem: Awakening

Japan --- 453,672 (physical copies)
US --- 240,000 (physical + digital copies)

Total --- 693,672 units.

Always fun to see the NPD Top 10 right after a round of "OMG Nintendo puts out the same games over and over!" threads. Not a single original IP on the list, as usual.

My estimates for March of last year was 789,444. If even somewhat accurate, it would put this months sales ~537,000. If true, that leaves ~277,000 for DS+PS3+Wii+WiiU+Vita. I find that hard to believe so my number must be off (I'll consult jvm).

That would be catastrophe level type sales if true.
