NPD Sales Results for March 2013 [Up5: BioShock Infinite]

So, 3DS registers a ninth straight month of YOY declines?

It's great and all that the unit is outpacing DS for the time period or that it's better than 8 million sold, but this last stretch of months? There's no "momentum" at all.

Did people really expect Lego to chart when it came out on the 18th?! Or Monster Hunter which was released on the 19th?! Really?

haha they just were like 'uh Wii U... look forward to games later!'

Wii U must have sold negative numbers this month or something lol

Lego City Undercover and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate are both at around 28k (unique posters) on Miiverse, which I know means very little, but that can't be a good sign.

My estimates for March of last year was 789,444. If even somewhat accurate, it would put this months sales ~537,000. If true, that leaves ~277,000 for DS+PS3+Wii+WiiU+Vita(+PSP). I find that hard to believe so my number must be off (I'll consult jvm).

There's no way the 360 sold almost as much as every other console combined.

Wii U™ owners have a ton of great games to look forward to from Nintendo and its third-party partners, including Gears of Wario™ on June 23, Pikmin™ 3 on Aug. 4, Disney's Planes from Disney Interactive on Aug. 6 and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell® Blacklist™ from Ubisoft® on Aug. 20. At the upcoming E3 trade show in June in Los Angeles, Nintendo expects to show attendees upcoming Wii U games from the Mario Kart™, Super Mario Bros.™ and Super Smash Bros.™ franchises.

Nice...this is the system seller that the Wii U needs!

Great for Infinite and Luigi. Surprised how well Luigi is doing!

Also, lol @ Nintendo's press release regarding Wii U. Man, the next games from them are Game & Wario on June 23, then Pikmin August 4?! That's horrible management. What is there even to translate in G&W? Purposely delaying so that the rear end of the year is more packed?

It is so weird seeing Nintendo going from the high of the huge DS/Wii hardware numbers seemingly not even that long ago to I don't want to know how the 3DS and Wii U hardware numbers are now for last month.

Yeah... no hardware...

Thanks though.

No 3DS hardware sales, no discussion of hardware OR software sales for Wii U... yikes. Nice launch for Luigi, though isn't that Pokemon number pretty weak relative to the previous Mystery Dungeon games?

Really curious as to how Lego City did.

So no chance of W101 before September? Sounds about right.

Infinite came out on the 26th. The real argument here is that those 2 games are a lot smaller than many of the other releases in March.

MORE THAN 20 MILLION PHYSICAL COPIES OF NINTENDO 3DS GAMES HAVE BEEN SOLD IN THE U.S.

April 18, 2013

Fueled by strong starts for Luigi's Mansion™: Dark Moon and Pokémon™ Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, and the continued strength of Fire Emblem Awakening, Nintendo 3DS™ crossed 20 million total units of software sold at retail in the United States, according to the NPD Group.

That momentum should only grow in the next few months as Nintendo prepares for a massive slate of Nintendo 3DS software releases, including: LEGO® City Undercover: The Chase Begins on April 24, Donkey Kong Country™ Returns 3D on May 24, Animal Crossing™: New Leaf on June 9 and Mario and Luigi™: Dream Team on Aug. 11.

Additionally, in a Nintendo Direct that aired on April 17, Nintendo announced or provided more details about new entrants in the Yoshi's Island™, Mario Party™, The Legend of Zelda™ and Mario Golf™ franchises for the Nintendo 3DS system.

Wii U™ owners have a ton of great games to look forward to from Nintendo and its third-party partners, including Game & Wario™ on June 23, Pikmin™ 3 on Aug.

"Oh, and we have this Wii U thing, I guess (is the name right?)"

No hardware sales, though...

What a strange press release. It almost sounds like it was written by someone who does not work for Nintendo.

3DS is over 8 million so shouldn't we have a minimum?

Game & Wario™ on June 23, Pikmin™ 3 on Aug. 4, Disney's Planes from Disney Interactive on Aug. 6 and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell® Blacklist™ from Ubisoft® on Aug. 20
Holy shit.

The comparison is flawed to begin with with the disparity in install base but Bioshock is a multiplatform game.

Love this gif.
When is Curb coming back goddammit?

I cannot wait to see the other hardware numbers. I have no idea why I feel so invested in the Wii-U's failure. I don't hate Nintendo nor do I even own a Wii-U, but low Wii-U sales figures bring my heart joy.

It would be exactly 8 months for a Nintendo developed game yo be released on Wii U.

They took 8 months to release Game & Wario after making Nintendoland...

I did the wrong month (April). I'll update this post in a second.

My estimates for March of last year was 1,451,000. If even somewhat accurate, it would put this months sales ~987,000. If true, that leaves ~726,000 for DS+PS3+Wii+WiiU+Vita(+PSP).

Their WiiU SW situation has been disastrous. Some of these games were long promised.

If their big holiday games are that Luigi DLC and W101 then I smell trouble. They will likely show a new Zelda at E3 but that's not enough to gather enthusiasm for the future of SW on WiiU.
