NPD Sales Results for March 2013 [Up5: BioShock Infinite]

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Wait, I'm reading the PR better and I need some clarification

Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon sold nearly 365,000 physical units in March, and has now sold more than 415,000 combined physical and digital units to date.

Fire Emblem Awakening sold an additional 64,000 combined physical and digital physical copies in March, and has now sold more than 240,000 combined units to date.

We know FE:A sold 180k in its first month. So, 180k + 64k = 244k and ok. And they refer to those 64k as March sales. Initially, I thought Luigi's Mansion sales were for up to today / last week, but reading the PR better, it seems those 415k could be just March. In the case...holy crap, a 50k digital debut?!?

About right on my 360 prediction, shouldn't have done a last minute change. Way off on 3DS, I guess portables still have some life in them.

Luigi has shortages just like FE so, considering it had far more of an audience trying to buy it, it's not that surprising to see it debut so high digitally.

Fuck it Nintendo needs to just take a movie studio formula, release the gritty, mature 3rd person shit and FPS to put their console over and ensure they still have a future to release the more Nintendo type games.

Quite different, Vita had most of its big Playstation hits released already.
Wii U is patiently waiting for them. And so is the market.

don't worry marc^o^ one day ASYNCHRONOUS GAMING will change all the PARADIGMS left in the industry, you'll see!

I think Pikmin is more of a cult franchise than a big well-known Nintendo franchise like Mario, Luigi, Metroid, Zelda or even Kirby.

Oh of course, but I was hoping it would at least sell on par with Pikmin 1 and 2, maybe a little better. Which was a few hundred thousand units a piece, IIRC.

I am now so concerned that I have doubts it'll even do that...

The 415K is a "to date" number, whereas physical is March only.

I guess in a way it makes sense. The next Sony and MS consoles are coming out in Q4 so I guess their idea is that it's better to have a strong quarter when they're released than trickle the games that they do have available from now till now, resulting in week/so-so remainder of the year...Basically condensing everything into those last 2 quarters and hoping it makes up for the first half of the year.

I'm not sure how that'll turn out

It shot up to number 1 on the eShop charts the day it released in America, if that helps. It's been at that position ever since then.

People harp on the tied to system thing and while I agree with them. Damn is it so nice to just have all the games installed on the system. Just turn it on and boom suddenly a list f games to play with out changing a game card.

But can Nintendo do the same with Wii U?

Not to the same extent. Wii U will finish in third, though we'll see the numbers improve some when Nintendo gets more software out for the system.

They should focus on their own development, and the contacts that they have in Japan, to publish a lot of content for the system, because western support is never going to improve for the Wii U. Developers here just have zero interest. I would expect to see more F-Zero GX type collaborations and outsourcing. Make the system profitable (like they did for Gamecube), while staying visible to the mass market with the 3DS (like they did with the GBA).

I imagine it will sell much more than the WiiU version

Definitely, I believe the Lego games have been doing well on 3DS, I believe.
I think they may have been the leading SKUs since last year?

But I'm still wondering if it'll help keep 3DS up.
April and May are kind of slower months, in terms of big titles.
But it still has a nice steady stream of software (not necessarily big titles though), so hopefully it still does hold up.

I don't know. Starving the Wii U of any notable releases until the second half of the year seems like a waste, the console is going to be overshadowed anyway, what with the release of the PS4/720, Nintendo have just mangled the lineup completely imo.

Why the hell is Walking Dead number 9? Easily the worst game I've played all gen. No exaggeration. I rented it for free and I still felt robbed.

I bet the numbers drop by quite a bit until June comes along with Animal Crossing (both the game and the system bundle)

Is there anything of note coming in May, other than DK?

Fire Emblem Awakening deserves to sell more than every other game on that list combined, multiplied by three. But still, is it the best North American FE game yet, saleswise?

So was the 3DS the second-best selling console?

I wonder what kinda data Nintendo has with correlation of Luigi and the increase.

No one knows whats going to be overshadowed. Not sure how you know

But the FE number is "to date" too, and that's 180k (February) + 64k (March).

But it says

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon sold nearly 365,000 physical units in March, and has now sold more than 415,000 combined physical and digital units to date.

It sounds like 365k = March. Additional 50k since then.

The 245K for 3DS is not 100% guaranteed. The commentary doesn't say if it was up 9% in units or dollars. If it was dollars, then the units would not be 245K because the XL is selling at a higher price this year than the 3DS was last year.

Good numbers for the 3DS. Kind of hoping they put all their eggs in one basket and bet big on its future.

How anybody... especially Nintendo could be content with those 3DS sales is beyond me. Imo it's still underperforming, it needs a pricecut.
