PLOT!
Devil King Sadao is only one step away from conquering the world when he is beaten by Hero Emilia and forced to drift to the other world: modern-day Tokyo. As "conquering the world" are the only skills the Devil King possesses—and are obviously unnecessary in his new situation—he must work as a freeter to pay for his living expenses!

IS IT ANY GOOD?

Yes! HMS! is a comedy anime that arrived with very little fanfare but is looking to be one of the top shows of this season! It's just straight-up funny, well paced comedy!

Don't believe me? Well here are some...

IMPRESSIONS!

Hataraku Maou-Sama! ep 1

What a amazing fun episode to watch. First half is interesting with the grim dark beginning than the rest of the episode went interesting on how those 2 demons intergrated themselves into society. The foreign language bits is hilarious.

This could be a sleeper hit of spring season.

I can't believe this is a White Fox show.

Hataraku Maou-sama! 1

I like this. Have always been a fan of the "otherworldly evil beings adapting to everyday life" type of story. Wasn't planning on checking this out, but I think I'll keep up with it for now.

Hataraku Maou-Sama! #1 - Why can't it be the Burger King for once?

I hope they don't read Nasu novels...

Well, this was a surprise, both in quality and in tone. Definitely funny stuff, and it's only 13 episodes long. The next episode preview showed some fanservice, hopefully they keep it down.

This is like MMY but with nice animation, interesting characters & actually entertaining. Check it out for the fucking awesome animation at the beginning, goddamn.

Hataraku Maou-sama 1

I got many genuine laughs out of this. The absurd plot and the nonchalant way Maou and Shiro settle into society is just hilarious. Will definitely be looking forward to more of this next week.

Hataraku Maou-sama 01

Oh my shit.
I LOVE THIS

This show is entertaining and hilarious. I cant wait to see more of it.
Plus it has an ED by Nano.ripe. Greatness.

Hataraku Maou-sama 1-3

Alright, quick and dirty impressions. I like it. A lot, actually. I checked it out given the surprisingly positive reception, and well, it's fun. The premise is incredibly out there, but it's good humoured enough about it not to feel too manufactured. I dunno what to say about it, actually. The production quality is very solid (to my surprise), it uses the main cast's collective fall from grace surprisingly well in service of the tone and the jokes, and the weirdly grounded approach it has to the lives of Maou and Emilia is honestly pretty endearing. There's a bit in episode 2, where Emilia reveals herself as
the hero
to Maou, chewing him out for the lows he's fallen to, followed by a series of cuts of her at work, and her walking through the shopping district as she notices (and acts on) a couple window sales that, I thought, was quite effective (and funny). There's about a hundred and one ways this could torpedo, and I'm honestly not sure what kind of series that Maou wants to be, but for now, I'm all on board.

Manager
> Emilia >>> Chii

(seriously Chii sucks, I hope the show doesn't prop her up as much as it seems like it will)

That last statement is just wrong but whatever!

So look forward to more great comedy and Chiho!

Surprise of the season along with Muromi (though I had some hype for that). Since my impressions are already up there, I'll say I really love the op song.

Can't remember if I've actually posted about this show or not but yeah it's p good. Definitely the best comedy of the season.

Waiting on girl on the left of this pic to show up before settling on a "team".

Probably the biggest curveball of the season for me. Came into it expecting nothing and definitely got... something. It's funny, genuine, and while not terribly ambitious, quite compelling in its' execution.

Said it before and I'll say it again, though. Chi is terrible.

Yeah, this is biggest surprise show of the season. It's easy to write it off due to the title and synopsis but the comedy is grade A. Entertaining to watch.

I'd also say it's a nice "feel good" show, that often comes with villains successfully adapting to everyday life. I've always loved the atoner concept as well, and this is a damn fun example.

The anime pulls off the content better than the manga. It was a surprise for me as well. Episode 1 was definitely one of the best first episodes this season for me. I think it's an easy recommendation because of how well it starts off.

Art blows though, apart from Emi's amazing expressions and the genre shifts for Maou
I like the art. It's got nice, clean designs. They're not very detailed but they're still pretty emotive, Chiho and Emi are the best at that.

And the demon stuff is just straight-up good.

Shit is actually pretty hilarious. I think Ill be sticking with watching this one most def haha

It comes together really nicely, I think the street scenes and the general shots with the public in them are very good. But somehow most of the character models alone feel kind of off to me. They are fantastically emotive though, they distort really nicely though, haha. Emi getting pissed off about everything is fantastic.

I really like the manga and the anime is just as good.

But the anime has now caught up to the manga, so I dont know whats going to happen next.

Oh no, the suspense.

The Devil is a Part-Timer! 1

The economy is even rough for Satan.

I wasn't expecting much when my friend told me to watch this, but after seeing the Gaf OT on it, I thought why the hell not? I loved the first episode. It was really funny. I wish this was on Crunchyroll for that 1080P goodness, but I'll endure Funimation's stream.

I thought crunchy was only upscaling their 1080p streams from 720p?

Surprisingly enjoyable with a fun cast of characters. It's a great little diversion from a few of the darker, more serious shows like Aku no Hana and Attack on Titan this season.

I love pretty much everything about this show so far but Emi's pissed off faces are at the very top.

They never get old.

episode 4

This is turning into Superior, but the relationship between Maou and Emilia is still a lot easier to swallow than the one in Superior. I was getting worried that Maou
directly killed her dad
, but thankfully that wasn't the case, making the quest for revenge a bit easier to give up down the line, especially when
we got a real villain now.

Didn't know this had an OT. I'm bumping this because the show is awesome and should be watched.

Watched the first episode and holy shit, I actually enjoyed it. I thought after I gave up on SA:O that anime just wasn't for me anymore but this seems somewhat promising.

Hataraku Maou-sama! 4

Another great episode. Put the comedy on the backburner for a more serious for this episode, although there were still many lol worthy moments courtesy of Alsiel. Emi's backstory was pretty interesting and certainly sets a good foundation for her conflict with Sadao. And now we see
Lucifer
enter the picture. A central villain could be really cool, especially if he still has to put up with real world obstacles as well. There wasn't a lot of Chiho this episode though and I'm certainly not happy about that.

Still, 4 out of 4 great episodes!

You were using SA:O as your benchmark?
If you do it makes the great shows even greater.

Hadn't watch anime in a long ass time. People raved about SA:O and Kotaku wrote some junk about it so I figured why not? Got bored about 12 episodes in.

You should check out Jojo's Bizarre Adventure(2012) if you're just getting back into it. I (and many others) really enjoyed that.
