Theoretical Question:

New Hotel Dusk/Elite Beat Agents/Trauma Center. Digital only. Would you buy them?

(I would. Immediately. Like right now.)

You know...I know people are against this and all, but here's a case where I wish companies could take a kickstarter approach.

For physical copies of AAI2 and this, imagine: Capcom sets up their own kickstarter structure with a funding amount they think is reasonable for a limited print run + translation. We as fans can overpay to make sure it happens. Rather than having no recourse (for AAI2 and possibly PW vs Layton) but to learn Japanese. I know I'd drop $100 easy for either of these games.
It's NeoGaf. There'd be a huge cry for blood if they tried kickstarting their own completed games.

On a Nintendo system, I would consider it if they were $20 or less.

On any other system, they would still have to cost less than full retail but yes.

Most likely waiting on a sale in either case.

Yes, yes, yes. Don't care. Yes.

I want a new Hotel Dusk like BURNING. EBA 2 and possibly Trauma Team 2 would be glorious as well.

Are people seriously skipping this cause it is dd only? Wow!

I can't blame them. No way in hell I'll pay full price unless it's a retail title, especially with Nintendo's current online setup.

You're right, of course, but I think that people have too narrowly defined the purposes of crowd-funding. It shouldn't be limited to helping the fledgling artist. We are just now discovering yet another function of the internet: connecting risky brands directly to niche audiences such that they are financially viable. We need to recognize that this is another legitimate use and that there is plenty of money to go round.

Digital Only?
This ain't gonna end well.

Due to Piracy on the 3DS of digital titles, Capcom has confirmed that Ace Attorney isn't wanted in the west.

Fans: FUCK YOU CAPCOM.

(And this is why I haven't bought a 3DS yet. They still haven't given me Edgey-poo 2 and they spit in my face by saying I didn't support the series. Fuck them. I'll get a 3DS cheap later)

I was hoping it would include Investigations 2 after hearing the name. :(

I am disappointed that it is eShop only, but I'll still get it. That's no excuse not to play it. I just wish I could get a box to put next to all the DS games.

Lots of people who love the Atelier games skipped the recent one because it didn't have dual-language. When prior games are released a specific way (in this case, in retail boxes) only for the new game to suddenly stop doing so, many might skip it altogether as a result. For this series we've come to expect a full retail release.

I still can't get over "Dual Destinies". Holy shit, they couldn't come up with a shittier title if they asked Square Enix to do it.

Still, I'm so happy.

Some of us will take anything after AAI2

If GS6 is announced one day and Capcom says that the west won't get it because of AA5's sales, I'll force you to watch Equestria Girls :(

I'm a little sad that they replaced Phoenix's old voice but I understand why they did. I don't care if this is digital only I'm super hyped.

Times are changing. I prefer a box as well but I want more AA so I'm gonna support the series.

We have too much homogenization in this industry already. I don't want this series to die.

Oh I'll buy it don't get me wrong. But I'll do so "begrudgingly" and continue to pester Capcom for a box. ;P

A vast number of things that isn't limited to games such as DLC that's on a disc, online pass for online games, the type of DLC that gets released, the cost of SMS messaging, bandwidth caps, DRM on a vast number of content, and so forth. There's a number of things people say that sucks and then click "Buy" anyway which just further makes these practices acceptable.

Oh. Okay, I couldn't tell what you were getting at. I support consumer activism and I agree sometimes people have inconsistencies with what the speak and how they act, which hurts the cause.

I don't agree with the boycott here, but I also can't bring myself to tell you guys who are boycotting not to do it, because I don't think Capcom isn't giving the fans decent options to advocate for the series. The implications of their actions suggest to me they don't see viability in the franchise in the long run and my impression is in part due to such actions that end will be achieved. At least a limited print run should've sufficed, I would think. Nintendo account system is less-than-desirable, that's been established.

I'll be buying this, most definitely, but lament that they've decided on a "digital only" route. Not everyone has good internet that makes for easy downloads.

Can't wait for this. As I don't care about the account system it doesn't affect me if this is DD-only. In fact, it will be cheaper for me to get since DD-only games usually are priced cheaper than the boxed games, at least here where I am.

For like a decade I had to live with internet that could only be described as a gigantic piece of shit. When we finally ended up switching we got no net on weekends and sometimes the download speed was only 3 kilobytes per a second. Yes, sub-dial-up speeds. Then a little over a year ago we switched to Comcast and I have no regrets.

So yeah, I do agree that that can be an issue. There are ways around it but it's an inconvenience.

Regardless, I shall be there for this game's (probable) midnight launch. So. Hyped.

My internet is pretty horrible but 3DS downloads are relatively painless due to low game sizes and the close/sleep download system.

Come to think of it, I maybe see where Capcom are coming from. They have no idea of how well it'll do and don't want an Ace Attorney 1 situation of customers unable to get it for months. Maybe they're seeing from monster Hunter where people are putting off buying it digital to wait for a physical reprint so Capcom decided to remove the deterrent...by removing the physical release all together.

Unlikely but we can dream. Not with licensed songs anyway (I guess thats part of the reason why there never was an EBA2...sales did not make it worthwhile licensing more songs, so limiting your audience doesn't seem like a great idea*) and writing original songs is kinda costly too though something with the popularity of Rhythm Heaven could float on Japanese sales alone.

*-Dumb thought. How does Rock Band DLC work? Did the developer buy all the licenses or is each DLC sale given to the record label.

CAPCCOM WHY

i preordered every single other one how could you do this why

oh, it's not cancelled yet?

day 1

As much as I want a box for it, I will buy it on the eShop. More sales, more Ace Attorney.

The day everyone gets over physical media will be a glorious day.

I thought I'd never stop caring about boxes and cartridges, but eventually I saw the light.

I'm okay with it being digital only. I downloaded NSMB2, Luigi's Mansion 2, Paper Mario and Layton already, and it's much cheaper than retail where I live.

Now, if only Capcom would release Ace Attorney 123 HD!

This sort of reminds me of the Bayonetta 2 chaos.

"It isn't coming out in the format I want, so I won't buy it! But I want it so badly!"

If you want it that badly, buy it, regardless of how it's released. Are your principles really worth more than paying for a $40 game that you most likely have been looking forward to for over 5 years? Stop being so stubborn and compromise. This series is not in the position for people to start protesting it over something as petty as a digital download. Bad sales will kill the series, so if you want to see this series continue in the West, just bite the bullet for this one.

I paid good money for this Dynex!

Well, we'll be closer when Nintendo's digital distribution service decides to stop fucking its consumers.

this thread is kinda funny though. it seems an account system is the best placebo ever invented.
(hint: in reality, an account doesn't protect you from anything)

What you can do if your Vita gets stolen: you can immediately use Sony's website to deactivate your game licenses on all your devices. If you acquire a replacement Vita, you need only sign in using your account to regain access to all your digital purchases. If you have a backup on PC or PS3, all your save data will be intact as well, as if it were still your original Vita. In the event you don't have a backup, you can at least download all your stuff.

What you can do if your 3DS gets stolen: call customer service, get hung up on if you can't produce a police report. Once you do produce a police report, it's up to the Nintendo gods whether or not you get the right to download your purchases a second time. Your save data is just flat out gone.

That's one heck of an effective placebo!
