Wii U and Vita back to shitsville, and things will only get worse.

Well Vita should bounce a bit as there at least some games dated for the next few weeks.

Wii U is screwed for 2 months until Pikmin 3 hits ...and even then it's hard to say if that will give it much of a boost as Pikmin 1 & 2 were not massive sellers.

A sad week, everyone dropped after Golden Week, maybe they'll go back to normal in 2 weeks.
Yeah, I'm speaking about all hardware because some seem to selectively notice only Vita and Wii U dropped.

That sales decrease after the Golden Week is obvious. But if 3DS is still way ahead everything else, and it still sells a respectable amount of units, Wii U and Vita are back to the regular crappy numbers, that's why people notice only them.

Doesn't Wii U have that revelations (lol) coming soon.

It's not pretty for either of them

Heh. I'd expect even the 360 version to outsell that by a wide margin even in Japan.

I'd assume a chunk of Wii U owners will have played the 3DS version so won't bother with the Wii U one (that's my position anyway).

What are upcoming Vita and Wii U releases in the coming weeks?
For Vita, Valhalla Knights 3 is coming out in two weeks. And then there's Hyperdimension Neptunia PP and Toukiden by the end of June.
WiiU will be getting Resident Evil: Revelaitons UE next week, followed by Injustice: Gods Among Us, Rabbids Land and F1 Race Stars in June.

Is it wrong that this gif creeps me out?? I mean, her batting her arms like that showing no sign of emotion on her face... it just creeps me out!!

And I don't think Animal Crossing + Tomodachi + Luigi's Mansion 2 should be considered the new trinity.

I mean, Animal Crossing is a trinity in and of itself :lol

What do you mean by normal?

20k for Vita and 12k for Wii U would be normal from what I've seen in the latest charts, don't have time to double check right now but they've been consistent at that number right?
3DS will be back to its usual 70k.

There is no normal for Vita. Check the charts again, it never stabilized. People saw what they wanted to see looking at the Golden Week charts and explaining that Golden Week only affected Nintendo consoles when it just prevented as massive drop on Vita. The normal for Wii U is sub 10k and if there is a normal for Vita it certainly isn't 20k. Once again, it was always inevitable that a platform like Vita with its current lineup had no chance of stabilizing at 20k.

But those are essentially where each of those platforms were at during Golden Week. I see this week's numbers as close to normal as possible due to no software releases and the weeks before Golden Week.

20k isn't normal for vita. That was more of a fluke. 10-15k is more its average of late.

Prediction time, will we see Vita reach 60k again before the end of the year?

Will Pikmin 3 be a system seller with legs?

I think the answer to those questions is no. I don't think Pikmin 3 or Wind Waker wil help Nintendo sell past 40k in a given week. Attempt at Beast Mode will come until 3D Mario/Mario Kart/Smash Bros. are on the schedule.
I think Vita caught a perfect storm (price cut + decent games coming out in a 1month timeframe) and needs to see a good schedule of those types of games coming out for 3-4 weeks to see those kinds of sales again.

Unless God Eater 2+FFXHD both come out the same week, there will probably not be another 60k week for Vita this year even during the holidays.

What happened to that 20 – 30k Vita baseline people were talking about on gaf? It’s on its way back to the sub 10k days and Wii U hitting 5k very soon.

Shocking!!!

Some people are in denial.

Am I wrong to consider Todomatchi Collection sold 445K in April (total minus launch week sales)? If I'm reading it right it'd mean the game need to sell around 85K next week to fit with my April prediction (530K).

Well, on the one hand the Vita has a few more games than I expected, but on the other I haven't heard of many of them, so I assume their sales potential is extremely low.

I'm just copy pasting the full lists over for convenience.

Vita:
Code:
05/16 Japan Princess * Strike!
05/23 Japan BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend (Arc System Works Best Selection)
		Valhalla Knights 3
05/30 Japan Haiyore! Nyaruko-San: Nafushigatai Game no You na Mono
		NextRev: Hisho Kentei Shiken
		Suugaku Rikiou: Chuukyuu Naka-2-Level
		Suugaku Rikiou: Joukyuu Naka-3-Level
		Suugaku Rikiou: Shokyuu Naka-1-Level
06/20 Japan FIFA 13: World Class Soccer (EA Best Hits)
		Kami Jigen Idol Neptune PP
		Winning Post 7 2013
06/27 Japan Memories Off 6 Complete
		Memories Off: Yubikiri no Kioku
		NextRev: Care Manager Shiken
Sangoku Hime 2: Tenka Hatou - Saki no Keishousha
		Toukiden
07/25 Japan Dragon's Crown
		NextRev: Care Manager Eiken
		XBLAZE Code: Embryo
08/01 Japan Mind = Zero
08/22 Japan Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Masou Kishin III - Pride of Justice

Wii U:
Code:
05/23 Japan BioHazard: Revelations - Unveiled Edition
06/06 Japan Injustice: Kamigami no Gekitotsu
		Rabbids Land
06/27 Japan F1 Race Stars: Powered Up Edition
07/13 Japan Pikmin 3
07/18 Japan Sniper Elite V2

Valhalla Knights 3
Toukiden
Dragon's Crown
Mind = Zero
Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Masou Kishin III - Pride of Justice

those should do ok rest is statistical noise

I think the answer to those questions is no. I don't think Pikmin 3 or Wind Waker wil help Nintendo sell past 40k in a given week. Attempt at Beast Mode will come until 3D Mario/Mario Kart/Smash Bros. are on the schedule.
.

Smash likely won't be out this year, and while I don't think anything will help individually, as a whole TW101, Pikmin, Wind Waker, Wii Fit, Wii Party, Lego, and Rayman (all 1st party in Japan) will increase the baseline of the system going into the probably launch of Mario Kart/3D Mario.

I'm sick of all the Wii U doomstalk for the simple reason that the discussions currently don't lead anywhere, but ... damn. The release list is beyond pathetic.

Even if Nintendo puts out a constant stream of good games in the second half of the year, there's still the 3rd party issue in the room. There's just nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Even if Nintendo gets

Wonderful 101
Wii Fit
Wii Party
Windwaker
Mario Kart 8
3D Mario U
And Bayonetta 2

Out this year, all they would have done is create a semi normal schedule and that's assuming the Wii series actually does anything. And then once the holidays are over what's next? Expect these games to continue to sell? Nintendo can't keep a pace of multiple games per month so it will just fall right back down. This is the problem of having no 3rd party support which they managed to dodge by having multiple phenomenon created on the Wii, but just look at the Wii. Even with massive 3 million sellers it couldn't be stopped from collapsing with the terrible schedule.

A lot of those are evergreen titles that can have long leg potential, that's probably what they are banking on.
Of course, this is assuming there's are other things in the pipeline.

3DS sold off the back of the trinity into 2012. Besides, your list misses Rayman and Lego too - they could end up putting out 9 games in 6 months for 1 platform.

Besides, they have X, Yarn Yoshi, Retro's game, SMT X FE, Smash, and Wii Sports which would cover more than half of the next year, too (since they typically don't release games in January and February is patchy). Stuff like a Pokemon Battle sim, Mario Party, Wii Music U, 3rd party collabs/outsourced dev could easily fill up the gaps.

So you're still looking at best 1 game a month or 1-2 games with absent months. It's not sustainable at all no matter how big you think those games are.

You're assuming zero 3rd party support, though.

Has any Nintendo system had more than 1 first party game per month for any extended period?

There are still games like Yoshi and X which shouldn't be too far off either. Same goes for SMT x FE, which obviously won't be as advanced in development as the other games, but I doubt Nintendo would have announced it already if it was a late 2014 game. So if none of these games make it in 2013, there's a good chance they'll be released in Q1/Q2 2014.

And that's just the stuff we already know of. Maybe Nintendo can pull off the miracle to release at least a game a month. That's not good by any means, but at least it should be enough not to lose all of the plattform's mind share.

Since Japanese 3rd parties (at least the smaller ones) aren't really into that tech arms race, Nintendo might have a chance to get their multiplat games also on Wii U if they agressively approach the companies... They failed to convince them so far, but maybe Nintendo realizes now that they aren't the ones to have demands anymore.

If Nintendo's unable to resurrect the Wii U in Japan, they won't be able to get the console on its feet anywhere in the world again. I think this is really the country where the chances of a (decent) turn of events isn't too improbable.

Apparently she's adding some kind of cream to a toothpaste... to get back at some dude.

It's from a Korean music video, so I can only tell you what I saw when I looked it up, lol.

Japanese third parties only seem to have interest in porting to multiple consoles for Western releases. Unless Nintendo can get the Wii U up and running in the USA, the current situation in Japan regarding ports (or the almost complete lack of them) won't change.

I really don't see why there's this idea that Nintendo's consoles should be stronger in Japan. The Wii fell in Japan years before everywhere else, and the lack of ports, resulting in smaller line ups, has always been a bigger problem in Japan than anywhere else.

So glad Dragon Ball Heroes is selling well.

Both Taiko are going to cross the 500k mark. PS2 and DS levels are far (more than 700k and 600k respectively) but I can totally see Namco sticking with 3DS for a while, after the disappointing PSP result.

Taiko no Tatsujin sales comparison:

(Only listed those titles that sold over 600.000 units)

Week 43
[3DS] Taiko no Tatsujin: Chibi Dragon to Fushigi na Orb {2012.07.12} - 3.046 / 459.470

Week 43
[PS2] Taiko no Tatsujin: Tatacon de DODON ga DON {2002.10.24} - 10.884 / 652.879 (LTD 743.334)

Week 32 (That was the last time it charted in the weekly top 30)
[WII] Taiko no Tatsujin Wii {2007.12.11} - 3.365 / 588.273 (LTD 657.666)

Week 38 (Next time it charted was in week 50)
[NDS] Metcha! Taiko no Tatsujin DS: Nanatsu no Shima no Daibouken {2008.04.24} - 9.075 / 484.186 (LTD 691.510)

Week 43
[NDS] Taiko no Tatsujin DS: Touch de Dokodon {2007.07.26} - 3.533 / 393.923 (LTD 640.480)

As we can see, console Taiko no Tatsujin games had shorter legs than the portable ones. After week 43 neither PS2 nor Wii Taiko no Tatsujin title sold 100.000 more units until the end of its run. One of the reasons is that they got more sequels. For example, in a short span of 2 years, PS2 received 5 more Taiko no Tatsujin entries. Wii would have a yearly entry.

Anyway, it's worth noting that the second Taiko for NDS came just 9 month after the first one. And its legs weren't much affected since it would end up selling 250.000 more units once the sequel was already in the market.

Taiko no Tatsujin 3DS shouldn't struggle too much to sell another 100.000 more units, or at least close to it. So while the 600.000 unit mark is far from being a lock, it is something achievable. At least it should end up selling 550.000 units.

Yeah Japan got it really bad. At least it's better on the west with Ubisoft's and WB's support.
