looks beautiful but I could never for the life of me play that character and immerse myself.
I don't get this. They all look the same. All of these girls, they're all identical, expect for the colour of their hair. Every single game, its the same girl, over and over.
What is it you see that I can't?
The sad thing is that the first Neptunia had pretty good AA, but they dropped it in the sequels. Those are bullshots. Unless something huge changed from the demo, Neptunia Victory had no AA and was chugging in the 15 fps range in one of the dungeons with a long draw distance. I doubt they've made any engine improvements.
I laughed in the other thread but I feel obliged to laugh here as well.
ahahahahaha
I feel exactly the same when I see stuff like this. Guess it's just how our brains are wired.
I guess I was dumb to expect something completely different but I think it looks great. I'll keep watching this. How well do the nisa published games do in the west?
Whats with this irrational hate for these characters?
Or you can legitimately hate the designs without any ulterior motive. I don't want to play a little girl's RPG, thanks.Adds to your e-cred. Gotta flex it.

Once you cross a certain barrier, it's just too much. Agarest War, Neptunia, that one Super Robot Wars, and to a significantly lesser extent, the Disgaea games, fall into this category.
If you want to see a "cute" style done right, look at Eternal Sonata. There is nothing remotely trashy about those designs - it's just a style of art, and it looks beautiful. This moe nonsense is horrible.
Actually looks LESS "Galapagos" than their other games. Maybe they just wanted to make a more traditional JRPG and figured no one outside of Japan cared about those anymore? Doubt that'd get in the way of exporting because extra revenue's extra revenue ("free money" didn't seem right to say.)What I really wonder is just how "Galapagos" the game will be, seeing as how Compile Heart has, to date, loved to aggressively export its titles.
Oh, there you are Amano.
DunnoGuessing game time!
Dunno, Snake, Drake, Chris, dunno, dunno, dunno, Shepard, dunno, dunno, Jason Statham, is that you? dunno, some guy from Killzone probably, dunno, dunno, Alan Wake, another killzone guy I guess, dunno, Nico Bellic, Frank West.
Did I win?
I wasn't really making a substantiated or sophisticated argument. I have an unabashed hatred for the moe design aesthetic. Eternal Sonata does not seem like moe to me because it's not a style that emphasizes little girls. Young girls are in the game, and are "cute" just like everything else in the game, yes, but they are not the primary focus.I was responding to someone who wanted to know why people were so volatile towards the character designs with some humour. Maybe I should have added "/sarcasm" at the end?
Ironically enough your post could be seen as irrational (without reason, my interpretation of the dictionary definition might be too strict perhaps) considering your use of hyperbole and unsubstantiated statements.
I'm not too sure about this "barrier" thing. Actually it does bring to mind a previous experience where I was called a "faggot for playing Final Fantasy". I could combine both to come to the conclusion that the lack of manly men/"mature" style means that a game is targeted towards little girls. Is that close enough?
I've seen Eternal Sonata and you've given no compelling reason for why it's "done right". Your use of the word trashy implies you think the previous games you listed are trashy if I'm comprehending this properly. You also haven't given any reason for why Eternal Sonata's style is just a "style of art, and it looks beautiful" while this doesn't apply to the others mentioned. Considering the above I can't really agree with your points.
For the record I have no problems with people disliking things. I prefer it though when people describe in-depth why they think the way they do. I don't expect everyone to uphold this standard for every post made but you'll have to forgive me since I'm not exactly pliable to blanket/unsubstantiated statements/arguments.

A large part of this argument is irrational, yes. I realize that and would never try to make a valid argument against the style. But God, I hate it so much.
This:
Is terrible.
This:
Is not. I can't find the words for it, but there is (to me) a clear difference in design between these two art styles. One seems refined, and the other does not.
Also, I have no idea where you'd get the idea that the lack of manly men has anything to do with a hatred for the "moe" aesthetic, especially when Eternal Sonata of all games is used as a counter example. I love anime. I just hate moe.

Overly cutesy little boys would be just as bad. I guess my problem is not as much with the focus on girls as it is with the giant eyed cuteness. It's just... ehhhhh.Well, if the game's cast was all male instead of all female would that change your opinion on the style of drawing? Based on what you've said the issue seems to be because they are the primary focus?
I'm not trying to attack you or anything. I apologize for sounding as such, though. You just happened to get caught up in a storm of moe hate. Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion, and if you like Neptunia's designs, then, hey, that's fine. You'll probably like FFF just as well. To each his own.Well one looks more realistic than the other. Eternal Sonata's characters are more realistic in proportions at least compared to Neptunia while Neptunia is more stylized and has some sci fi fantasy elements with the suit design. I wouldn't say either looks terrible, actually they both look pretty good to me.
The manly men then thing was poking fun at the stereotypical jocks who think that a game is for girls or homosexuals if it doesn't have guns and gore. I originally got the idea for that from the barrier and "little girl's RPG" comments. Maybe I should stop making jokes, or at least append a "/sarcasm" to the end.

Notice how the boy isn't shown in any of the screenshots, excluding the UI.
Hahaha this soooooo much
I am also in the boat of wondering why they went through the trouble of creating a new label for this game, crowing about how it's made exclusively for "Japanese sensibilities," signing on Amano and Nobuo, "FF," etc. when this basically looks like Neptunia sans the computer theme and free-range movement in combat. Or maybe there's more to this like multiple worlds or something.
I honestly thought they were going make something along the lines of Okami and make an RPG based on super-obscure Japanese history or something
