"Indie Games [May] Now Voting - Post 573!"

Too bad that The Realm probably won't share similar fate.

Yeah it's too bad, but I didn't see it get much coverage in the typical outlets. Hope it gets made eventually.

If the £195,000 goal isn’t reached, will the project still see completion at some point in the future?

We certainly hope so. We will cross that bridge if we get to it. In the meantime we are positive about reaching our target with your support!

Until then, I'll have this:

I actually pledged to the Kickstarter of Ballpoint Universe (at the time called College-Rulled Universe, I believe) and just received a USB stick in the mail with the game. Such a beautiful game and hope it is good and does well.

Post some impressions when you got to it!

The reception of people is boggling my mind. "Small Indie developed games not having refined gameplay mechanics" or being "bug ridden"? I seriously dont think arguing with those people makes any sort of sense, but man. This is a really stupid stigma small Indies got to live with, just because they dont offer sparkling exploding set piece moments.

I actually find it quite the opposite in terms of bugs, most small scale productions are in fact more stable then big budget titles by virtue of their most focused design. Other then a few exceptions like Hotline Miami and Legend of Pegasus, crashes seem very rare in indie games while they are something I've just had to get used to in games like Skyrim and more recently Blood Dragon.

Yeah, I definitely agree with that. I cant remember the last smaller Indie game I played that had big issues. 2x0ng maybe this month (which I still hold the record for btw :p - 12 levels) with its performane issues initially, but the dev resolved it in no time. And I played through Skyrim PS3, so I find that notion of Indies being bug ridden highly ridiculous.

On a different note, we had about 9 people downloading the program so far, and I think realistically 1-2 will post in here with their impressions eventually. Since its also you guys using it, do you think we should open a new thread for it to get more impressions and others testing it?

Just adding some impressions for Teleglitch. I really like this app, it's a great resource for logging all these games for future reference. Thanks!

<Imp>Teleglitch; 3; Great top down shooter with satisfyingly chunky retro graphics and minimalist sound design. Crafting and item management are fun, but the lack of ammo and extreme difficulty might put some off.</Imp>

I just noticed something, could you please put the imp-imp part of your post in a quote tag? I'll add that automatically in the next version of the program.

Glad you like it :) Still have a few more ideas for it, but I want to test the current systems a bit before advancing with other stuff.

Yup, thank you. I just noticed that if someone would have quoted your post, the one quoting it AND you would have had the same readout in the program.

No worries, good point.

So if I write any impressions for any game, update that single post from now on, correct?

Made a small update to the program that fixes 2 smaller issues and added the quote tags to the forum post:
goo.gl/G5PVn

Starting it up, you should also notice there is a new forum readout that now includes teeny. ;)

Burn and Turn just sucked an hour of my life away,

WORTH IT.

I was having an issue where I couldn' t get the forum readout for any game but 2x0ng. I had just put impressions for that and burn and Turn, and whatever I clicked, it kept giving me the 2x0ng impressions. Is that one of the issues you addressed.

I might have accidentally fixed that, but I didnt notice that error and you are the first one to mention it.
Did you create a new folder for the single .exe download and NOT use the program the way it got installed? Like creating a folder on C/your desktop and then put the .exe there to use it instead of using the program destination that installed itself from the rar file. If you didnt do that, take the most recent .exe and put it into a new folder before starting it up and do the first time usage stuff to see whether you still get the same issues.

If the problem persists, could you please do the following:

Download new version and replace your old file.
Click on Database - Redownload Database
Click on Mode - Player Ratings
Make a screenshot of the program.
Write down the number of Ratings/Impressions on the button to the left side of the picture for: 2x0ng, 6180 and 7 Grand Steps
Make a screenshot of the analysis window for 6180.
And post the content of your UserReviews2.txt file

Some interesting discussions over on Joystiq,

http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/14/steam-is-king-in-service-wars-humble-store-a-sleeping-giant-in/

I think this tracks with my expectations as a consumer. I really like the humble store widget, it makes impulse buys so damn easy, and gives me everything I want, but I still end up using Steam a lot, both for the sales and as a place to organize my collection.

As the Indie scene's discover-ability improves, especially with guys like TotalBiscuit and NorthernLion, IndieStatik and more mainstream coverage from Giant Bomb, RPS etc. The discoverability issues that humble has will be less of an issue.

Possibly, I Creaed a folder and installed everything to there. I'll try re-installing.

Not re-installing. You can technically deinstall the old program and JUST use the .exe from the last download in the big post or the last link I posted. Do NOT use the program the way it was after the install. The install is really only used to make sure people have the most recent .net version. Once they do, its enough to download the single .exe download version (instead of the rar download) and put it wherever you want.

Sorry for these... issues. Hobby programming >_> Once it works, it should work fine though.

My real-life friends, who are awesome, have gifted me Factorio, Clairvoyance and Starbound for my birthday (which is tomorrow) :). I'll try Factorio and Clairvoyance tomorrow, and now I'm even more looking forward for Starbound's beta!

A few random rants:
When is the Maia preorder going to be up?
Why are people so excited about War of the Overworld, while it looks pretty much like Dungeons (which can be gotten for cheap right now)?
Where is my Dwarf Fortress Update?
Why did I buy Frozen Synapse on iOS again without having the intention of playing it?
Why did I spend 4 hours last night selling and buying Steam trading card invite keys?
Why are there no more impressions posted by other users with the program so we can test the balancing!
Why have I not worked on the translation for the game I currently translate for, for over a month?
Where is all the time I need to play all these games and do all these things I want to do?
ARGH.

1) No Idea about Maia but you've mostly just been engine tests you can partake in
2) Since it's completely based on Dungeon Keeper (ala spiritual successor I guess), they even got the guy who did the voice for DK. (Ala take control of minions etc)

Dont cuuur about the rest.

Ah, they offered alpha access for backers and apparently its not far along? Which reminds, me.. there was this prison management sim game for that ridiculously high price. I should check whether they made some progress.

Edit: As soon as I can think of the name.

Edit2: Any minute now... Prison... Something with prison. Prisooooooooooon...

Edit3: Architect! Prison Architect.

Edit4: Holy crap:
55,822 Sold for the lowest tier.
( $1,674,660 )

2M overall.

Edit5: They made some nice changes: http://www.introversion.co.uk/prisonarchitect/builds.html

Are you getting richer or poorer?

I was getting 15$ richer, then a bit poorer and in the end evened it out monetarily but got a level 11 profile and a level 4 Dont Starve badge in the meantime. *shrugs*

Should have bought more than 40 keys yesterday though.

Yeah the next Maia alpha build should actually have gameplay.

The War of the overworld bedrock beta is still early days. Tried it out a bit but really too early for me to judge yet, but imagine it's gonna be updated soon.

Prison Architect is awesome! They're on the 9th alpha update now but has been a really pleasant experience thus far.

Grim Dawn also launched their alpha, only played for 20 mins or so but seems damn decent for an alpha (although I imagine their pretty far in the dev)

Planet Annihilation is also launching their alpha this month, looking forward to this one!

Dungeons is nothing like Dungeon Keeper. It was bad but DK2 aged like fine wine. All they had to do was clone it and add online multi and some new features.

True, but I am not seeing much Dungeon Keeper in War of the Worlds yet. Or has anyone some better impressions? Watched a few youtube videos which werent exactly all that convincing or even close to being worth 20 bucks. I mean I try and buy lots of alpha/beta Indies, but the game certainly could go VERY wrong still.

Everyone thinks the same: "I should have bought all the keys for $0.05 and sell them now for $3". Speculation can work the other way as well.

Yeah, true. Ah well.

Well, in that case hello to Mrs. Weltall! ;p

:) The bizarrest thing is that our birthdays are exactly the same day, so it's her birthday too!

Why are people so excited about War of the Overworld, while it looks pretty much like Dungeons (which can be gotten for cheap right now)?

Ah, sorry Toma, you know how we agree on games almost 100% of the time, but Dungeons is one I can't agree with. I didn't like the gameplay, the visuals, controls, flow or anything about it. Even the very concept seems backwards to me; I want to kill heroes, not to make them happy (even if it's to kill them later). Still, it was poorly implemented and unintuitive, and furnishing your dungeons with tons of interchangeable items felt more like The Sims than anything else. It has NOTHING on any of the Dungeon Keepers.
Waf for the Overworld on the other hand... it's almost a carbon copy of DK. If someone told me it was a straight up remake of DK1 or 2, I would have believed them; everything seems exactly the same except for the units. Of course, since we haven't got a DK game in well over a decade, that's a good thing, actually.

Why did I buy Frozen Synapse on iOS again without having the intention of playing it?

Why is that, aren't you a huge FS fan?

Why have I not worked on the translation for the game I currently translate for, for over a month?

Yeah, I've been meaning to ask how it was going and if you needed assistance testing anything.

Where is all the time I need to play all these games and do all these things I want to do?
ARGH.

Of all of them, I can relate to this the most. It's sad because I haven't even been able to try any of my birthday games yet!

Seems 100% Dungeon Keeper to me:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-jnU6MNCDQ
Granted, the visuals could stand to improve a bit, but the feeling I get is totally DK.

But that video doesnt show ANYTHING. I know Dungeons wasnt a Dungeon Keeper, but I guess I am just trying to say that what you see in the video is as far away from Dungeon Keepers as it is from Dungeons, other than the graphics maybe :p

Its a tech demo, and I dont get why so many people seem to be so hot for this game, because the tech demo doesnt prove anything. The only thing it shows was that those little gnomes can hack walls, but as far as gameplay goes, you could do the same thing in Dungeons. Again, I am not saying that Dungeons is a good DK clone (because it isnt), but I dont see how this game looks promising either o_O

(I am a huge FS fan, but I bought the game on iOS, knowing fully well I might never really play it because mouse is faster and move precise)

Edit: And yeah, I was buried in programming the tool, and some translating work for the company I work for, so that my game translation was on the low burner. Will try to make some progress this week.
Random tooltips for the enemies from the translation:
You really should dispose of this robot before he disposes of you.|
Look at those robots, all about the thrill of the chase.|
You are not supposed to watch these robots, but to eliminate them.|
That is a really handsome robot.|
This speciman is not nearly as harmless as it is handsome looking.;

Haha, no. I actually didnt get to buy many keys because there were people grabbing all of them. Guess Valve releasing another 10.000 was too much for even the most hardcore key grabbers. I am fine though ;)

But that aside!
PEOPLE! Dont you want to try this fancy little tool here. We could use some more testers:
