That's such a good comparison. I get bored when the disaster stuff isn't happening and find myself just waiting for the next bit of chaos.

So I went to a Tofu Festival today in Japantown and of course went to my favorite Japanese bookstore to pick some stuff. Also, my friend who went to Fanime last week also gave me some stuff she got there:

Uglier and more boring than the first episode, with an unfunny, dragged-out gag about part-time work. (By the way, if the ban on students holding part-time jobs that is common in anime happens in real Japanese schools, it seems like a terrible, short-sighted idea. Test scores shouldn't be everything, and building a work ethic is valuable.) Things did get more interesting once the standoff in the restaurant began, and particularly during the Yami Game, which was far too short. More of that please.
I was amused by the contrived situation whereby no one but the villain was able to see Yuugi transform into Yami.
Shading doesn't help this anime.

Emi's alright. She's obviously got a real dark side, which is nice and different from the others who are otherwise good people under their exteriors.

Certainly wasn't left feeling happy by episode's end nor even with the preview.

Levi is a good character and seems like he has tons of potential, having the same belief system as Eren, so they seem like they could, if they ever meet up, be interesting leads to follow around. The va sounds like Hibiki Kuze (DeSu2) and a touch of Erecpyle (Ixion Saga DT). Additionally, the megane vibrant girl seemed like an excellent addition to the cast, hope she stays relevant as shes so far, along with Annie, in the lead for best female characters in this anime.
I think the episode was just alright at best, it did the expected and what not. I still hate one of the underlying concepts of it and doubt I will ever like it assuming it is used again and again

The powerup process to become a titan looked really nice with the yellow glowing forcefield region and the faux lightning of sorts and thunder. However, as I previously stated before the powerup to become titan just is awful. I dislike when characters become huge towering non human things and such as it is just impossible to relate to and just looks disgusting. Like previously with Eren he looked bad and here he looked even worse, all that exposed bones and flesh. Who would want that? At the end of the day, Ill probably be supporting more of the standard human characters not blessed with these abilities as it is just plain impressive seeing tiny human defeat towering giant versus giant defeating other stuff, etc

IIRC the drawn out part is what they padded out the manga chapter from for the episode's runtime while the Yami Game was mostly from the manga. There's a stark contrast but thankfully the third ep is far better in regard to its setup and conclusion.

No, you chose the correct option. Diebuster to me feels like a one cour show cut in half, particularly in terms of how the fraternity works. Gunbuster takes similar approaches to Die in its pacing, but it feels a lot more focused because its cast is shorter.

Shit continues to hit fan. Kasuga (why did autocorrect just try to change his name to karuta of all things?) continues to be the most pathetic human being imaginable. Up until this point I was still rooting for him and Saeki to work out as a couple, but I'm not sure I even want that any more. Saeki is far too good for him. The terrible thing is that Kasuga himself would doubtless agree with everything I am saying.
I feel like pointing out now that I really like the Saeki-version opening theme. It felt particularly appropriate this episode, kicking in after Saeki is all like

Yay bandwagon watch! I never really liked Shinkai's work because while they were pretty I had always found them dull and never hit me emotionally the way it did for other people. Mind you before this I had only seen three of the things he made. Voices of a Distant Star, 5cm/sec, and some short about a cat and I liked the cat one the best which I'm told is blasphemy. Luckily this one was short and never dragged on the way 5cm/sec did and peppered the straightforward story with things I liked like rain, chocolate, and swapping food. Not much else to say other than it topped the cat short for me and I liked it but doubt I'll rewatch it or throw out recommendations for it.
Edit: Oh yeah and I'm with firehawk on this one, it's pretty clearly a good ending.
I like this figure because the ahoge does a heart, like Heart Aino from Arcana Heart.

I "play" it sometimes, getting my ass kicked into the ground. But I mostly like to watch other people play it.
I have Arcana Heart 3 on Ps3 btw.
