PAL Charts - Week 21, 2013

Let's put everything

Codemasters speed to the top of the All Formats Chart for the first time since ‘F1 2010’ back in W38 2010 thanks to ‘Grid 2’. The sequel goes one better than its predecessor which could only manage No2 five years ago, however launch week sales are 29% down on the original. ‘FIFA 13’ holds on to No2, enjoying a healthy 17% weekly increase in sales during this Half-Term week. ‘Dead Island: Riptide’ (-0%) is up one place to No3, ahead of ‘Far Cry 3’ (+35%) which climbs 4 places to No4, boosted by a new budget price point. Last week’s No1 is No5 this week as sales of ‘Resident Evil: Revelations’ fall by 45%. ‘Assassin’s Creed III’ (+10%) has to settle for the title of Ubisoft’s second biggest selling game this week behind ‘Far Cry 3’, despite holding on to No6. No1 three weeks ago, ‘Metro Last Light’ (-40%) slips from No3 to No7, ahead of ‘Donkey Kong Country Returns’ (-17%) at No8. ‘Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes’ (+35%) bounces back into the Top 10 for a second time, at No9 (having made another reappearance back in W15). ‘Tomb Raider’ (+0%) clings on to the Top 10, falling 3 places to No10. There is only one other All Formats Top 40 debut this week; ‘Fuse’ from EA, new at No37.

I wouldn't be so sure considering how few units need to be moved to get into No 1 in the Top40. Might drop off substantially next week.

No1 three weeks ago, ‘Metro Last Light’ (-40%) slips from No3 to No7, ahead of ‘Donkey Kong Country Returns’ (-17%) at No8.

Dat substantial drop-off.

Ok guys. The nordic numbers are up...

Can SOMEBODY explain to me how Sly fuckin Cooper can beat new Resident Evil release? How? There must be some bug with Sly being so high for so fuckin long. There is no other explanation.

Or is there like some promotion for pickin up Sly for 2€ over here or something that went under my nose?

Sly is actually good that´s why. People here have good taste ;)

yeah, I was too optimistic...

I still think Fuse debuted around 1.5 / 2k, since this is the All Formats Charts.

Man that's a huge FUSE bomba.

Expected, but still pretty sad. I hope the rumours about Insomniac securing a two game deal with Microsoft are true because they need the stability right now, being plunged into the same position as other studios which serve up bombs (like Bizarre at Activision) will see them shut down within a couple of years or at least downsize.

I think Ted Price must be regretting not selling the company to Sony when he had the chance, should have cashed in.

Jeez, only a couple hundred? I feel bad for Insomniac. That's the thing with EA partners games, EA never bother advertising them.

Alice, Shadows of he Damned, Syndicate, Kingdoms of Amalur, Fuse.

EA love sending them out to die.

I honestly did not think FUSE was even out here yet. Literally nowhere I normally shop that stocks games got a single copy of it in.

Poor bastard never stood a chance.

It's a (maybe hyperbolic?) guess, he doesn't know how much the title sold.

Could insomniac go back to Sony if they wanted to?

They should have made a new Resistance

Sony would probably decline a new partnership with Insomniac similar to the one they had before, it would be on a per game basis rather than underwriting the running costs of Insomniac. That's why I hope they sign the deal with Microsoft, it might be a betrayalton at E3 or whatever, but at least they will survive long enough to get their mojo back.

And your point?

This is the substantive point to which I was responding to and, in any case, qualified with the "might" caveat -

In any case, dropping No 1 to No 8 is a fairly large drop-off. Luigi's Mansion, for example, held onto the No 5 spot for two consecutive weeks in a row.

...It was 5th in the All Format chart in its debut week. And it lost just 17% compared to the first week. I hope you don't try telling me that losing 17% for the second week is substantial...

Individual chart

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (3DS) is back in the Individual Value Top 40, at 37th.

I dont think MS take a no name developer.. They like to get in partnership with top tier developers and with recent games Insomniac is a no-name developer category. They dont have the following where "By Insomniac" is big enough to get them hundred thousand sales..

So i seriously doubt MS will partner with them..

Someone told me Amazon rankings are worthless, but if they are at other 3000 in Games I think that means a lot. Especially if this game is coming out in a few days. Well looks like Fuse was the bomb I expected. Well kinda everyone saw that coming. I really don't know what insomniac was thinking with this game.

God of War is doing excellent with its price cut. Wonder if it got a few extra sales last week due to TLoU demo as well.

And dayummm, FUSE not even in the individual charts.

Are we looking at less than 500? With Nintendoland nowhere to be seen what sort of numbers we looking at for the Wii U? 200-300 a week?

Probably lower.

Complete absence from the individual charts for Fuse. Damn. Couple of hundred sales is looking increasingly likely...

Which part of "Might" do you not understand?

I think he wasn't referring to your "might" but this:
In any case, dropping No 1 to No 8 is a fairly large drop-off.

At least it's how I read his comment. Anyway, only 17% down for a 3 years old remake, for a console which is struggling in this market... is really good. I don't even take into account - and I should as we're in PAL thread and not jus UK one - its number 1 rank in France and Germany.

Eh, not understanding what he was answering to. Ah, I feel 3DS is not struggling in UK anymore. At least, in the last two months and a half. Certainly it's doing better.

Kind of feel sorry for insomnica, the demo was ok and its a much better game than alot of those above it in the chart. Ill pick it up for £15 within the next 14 days going off those numbers.

FUSE managed #25 on the value charts however. But only on the 360.

Poor insomniac. PS gamers have abandoned them, just like the company did them :p

It was obvious since Resistance 2 that Insomniac was chasing to become a "big name dev" on the level of Naughty Dog or Infinity Ward. That chase led them to where they are now. That rumored deal with MS is probably their last chance at it. If they fail again, they'll probably sink into obscurity and irrelevance.

There is no doubt things are looking better for the 3DS in the UK. From what I remember and may be wrong but when Mario Kart and NSMB 2 were released they didn’t stay in the top 10 for long.

Nintendo’s Q2 financials should show a decent bump in the amount of 3DS consoles sold.

For a remake yes, but there are some posters who turn this into a "console warrior" thing.

I quoted you about the "substantial drop-off" part, not about the "console warrior" thing you talk about. I smell this :P

Speaking of insubstantial drops, NFS Vita is still responsible for 1 in 5 copies sold. Can't believe I'm not getting the next one :(

I'm actually surprised by NFS Vita's share in UK. Just about half of what PS3 SKU is doing for many weeks. I thought it'd have sold much, much worse. Maybe bundles are helping too, but still better than what I imagined.

Tiresome dude.

I misquoted your Top40 All Prices chart as the Individual Formats chart. I've edited it out.

But as I explained earlier -

Might drop off substantially next week.

You know, caveats, nuances, qualifiers..

But then, I'm talking to the biggest 3DS console warrior there is.
