Not necessarily. I think Nintendo's overall policy on design has changed drastically since Iwata took over. We were playing Mario Kart 64 the other day and holy shit that game is certainly targeted towards the hardcore gamer. Extremely fast and narrow tracks. Very unrelenting. I then realized how much I had allowed myself to acclimate to Nintendo's ever-increasing casualization of their games over the years. I think the problem is the design culture has just changed so much that it'll take a shakeup to get things back to where they were in the 80s and 90s. I'm not really expecting that today but it's possible we'll get something cool from Retro, Monster Games or Next Level Studios.
I hope Retro is being given free reign to develop there own IP because I think it will be that Nintendo branded mature game people are looking for I don't want a Metroid from them I think they have earned the opportunity to either thrive
or crash
