I think they've dropped too many bombs on past directs and haven't released any of them for there to be any huge surprises. I don't expect much in the way of new games, but actually seeing some of the promised titles will be nice.

Gritty Mario reboot. Game is now a 3rd person shooter co-developed with Epic Games. Will feature iconic weapons from the Gears of War franchise.

I had a dream 2 nights ago that they showed a new F-Zero & Waverace.

Retro's new IP started with a "B". There were 3-4 other new IPs shown that looked cool.

I don't expect any of those to happen (Retro's game will be shown but won't start with a "B").

I will predict new footage of Shovel Knight will be shown during the Direct as part of the section on Indie games.

This is all I'm expecting but as long as they show the first 3 and smash, I will say I'd be satisfied with this direct.

Not necessarily. I think Nintendo's overall policy on design has changed drastically since Iwata took over. We were playing Mario Kart 64 the other day and holy shit that game is certainly targeted towards the hardcore gamer. Extremely fast and narrow tracks. Very unrelenting. I then realized how much I had allowed myself to acclimate to Nintendo's ever-increasing casualization of their games over the years. I think the problem is the design culture has just changed so much that it'll take a shakeup to get things back to where they were in the 80s and 90s. I'm not really expecting that today but it's possible we'll get something cool from Retro, Monster Games or Next Level Studios.

Why not? Not that I think they will show F-Zero today but those two franchises aren't really similar at all apart from falling under the general umbrella of "racing games." One wouldn't come close to satisfying someone who was interested in the other.
