I know I'm buying an 802.11n router before I get the PS4. I'm hoping the dual band improves my TWC internet performance. Although I suspect that regardless of my route, TWC will make sure it's not too good.

He's probably paying for a much larger plan though people need to understand that an internet plan isn't a promise of a certain speed. It's a promise of a maximum speed. That is to say your 50mbps plan tells you it offers speeds up to 50mbps which can be anywhere from <1mbps up to 50. Also bad broadband like that happens in larger cities too. It's a matter of exchange lottery.

Not entirely true, it is a maximum. It also depends on the type of delivery. Cable is pretty stable. And far from a lottery. And between cable companies there are differences. On at day time, early in the evening it takes the biggest toll, but even then over here it should be about 80% or more of it's promised speed.
At night with a good, malware free environment you can get 99% of that speed.
Other types and in other places may be a different story, but often with cable you can fairly predict how realistic your speeds will be. ADSL is a different story and much less stable (at least here it is). Stability is for gaming also important. Stability=predictability.

Yea, I know that, that's why I asked if he lived in a smaller city since that's the most common problem I personally know of. I got lucky since I live in a relatively bigger city and my area especially has a very good infrastructure so I always got near maximum speeds according to my plan.
