Explanation
Vire is currently busy that's why it's this year's results thread is the bandaid edition and not the full run-down. I apologize for this. I took the most popular votes in each category and accumulated them. Games that only got very few votes I didn't count (Like The Witness getting one vote), as the effort wasn't worth it. (I only just jumped in to help out.)

Thanks to Vire and everyone else that participated. Next year we need some different categories, I think. ;-)

Voting thread

Winner of everyone's hearts: Octodad

Surprised about The Division winning. I forgot about it in minutes, but I guess it made an impression. The rest are all pretty predictable, except maybe LoZ: A Link Between Worlds beating out Super Smash Bros. 3DS.

Well done OP!

That's a pretty good Top 3. Not too crazy about The Division yet myself, but FFXV and MGSV were indeed the top games of E3.

A little surprised to see so little hype for Smash Bros. Brawl did have a better reveal though.

i think tearaway would be topping the portable charts if they'd shown the e3 demo at the sony press conference.

also not as enamoured with the division as the rest of gaf. love the graphics and scale but it does look just standard third person cover shooter at its core.

The Division's setting is what lost it GotS for me. A third-person MMO/RPG shooter is awesome. But a "military" shooter in NY? Ugh.

Idk, I don't see the fuss behind the division yet, potentially interesting but from about 8mins of gameplay it's hard to say; looks like a 3rd person Destiny.

The Division looks both really good and exceedingly dull. It's a shame they wasted all those resources on such a boring setting and concept.

The Division looks awesome, but for me FF XV was breathtaking, the best of the show with The Phantoms Pain.
And ALttP 2

What's good about The Division?
Did they release something beyond that trailer playthrough?

Because it wasn't that remarkable tbh.

Didn't get a chance to vote, poll closed too early. Oh well.

I also didn't really understand the voting criteria.
It skewed a bit too platform-focused and not content, which really is what E3 is about. Genre awards would have worked better.

Where would I have even been able to vote for some of the awesome games I played/saw at the show like Murdered, or Lords of Shadow 2 or any other third party title.

Next year we will do genre awards. It'll be back and better than ever. :)

Also thinking about adding a long overdue indie category.

Oculus rift should have won best tech. hmph.. guess you have to experience it yourself before truly appreciate it.

I hear ya. All good.
Though I do find it funny. I've been to over 10 of these in-person, and it really always is about the content. It's about the games, and how they'll individually perform at retail, and trying to get the best PR and write ups you can, and whose doing what with what technology and etc.

No one really cares about platforms. Well, unless you work for MS, Nintendo or Sony I suppose. It's really the enthusiast media who play up the whole 'it's a major platform war, what side are you on?' stuff. Which I guess might be what people want to read, and why they push it so far, but E3 is more a game sales war than a 'hey what platform are you going to buy' battle.

cause really, everyone know,s the better they all do, the better everyone does

You've raised a good point in the middle of the thread, and I agree with you. The OP needs to be upon submission have a set rules by which everyone must abide. (There are several people that said "I'm coming back later to edit my other choices" and they never did so they wouldn't know about changes in the rules.)

This forum doesn't have platform specific boards, so I think we should just list top 10 (or however many any person thinks are worth listing) and have a top 10 list, just like with our yearly GOTY awards.

Genres are getting so blurred, platforms are often meaningless. I think it should just be games.
Instead of platforms categories such as "best playable", "best trailer", "best concept" would be more valuable.

There are some that are of the opinion that indie shouldn't be confined to their own category. Games such as Bastion and Journey are comfortable hanging with the big budget stuff.

To be honest, I'm surprised it got as many votes as it did.

Sure it looks nice, but it's still same ole' Mario Kart.

Mario Kart is always great, plus it looks gorgeous and Waluigi's back.

They added some anti-gravity gameplay too.

Gritty cover based co-op third-person shooter, probably the most complained about genre here, wins GAFs game of the show. Am I the only one that finds this absolutely hilarious?

Sounds good, not opposed to a top 10 similar to GOTY voting with number 1, 2 ,3 being worth more.

Plenty of folks love these games but haters be loud.

edit: Just an opinion on the voting..

The best ps4, xbox1, nintendo games etc. I think should all be exclusive titles.

Otherwise say MGS5 would have won most all my categories since it is multi-pat

It just feels like the one Wii U game that steps above the PS3 and 360 to me. I've been waiting seven years for next gen to start and Mario Kart legit looks next gen.

Can't say the same for X or Smash.

Lots of things I'm inferring but to me it seems like a DayZ without Zombies, but with RPG elements, quests and encounters by game designer and lots of polish.

I think of it as a Modern Warfare version of Destiny. It's not an amazingly different concept. Tons of games heading in that direction.

And not sure how you can tell that it has a lot of polish when it isn't even playable.

My polish comment was in comparison to DayZ. I don't think Ubisoft will release a jankier game than DayZ was when it was popular here on GAF.

I also disagree that it's like Destiny. Destiny is like Borderlands, where you don't have to care about staying hydrated and getting food. The RPG and weapon stuff is very close though.

These results don't make sense at all.

Division wins best of show yet is 200 points behind Second Son on bestofPS4 and doesn't even chart on bestofxbone? Doesn't make any sense to me at all.
Check the voting thread. The categories are distinct and are independently tracked.

People wanted to share the wealth, it would be boring if Division won every category.

Which is why we are changing the format next year.

Then the categories don't have any meaning then. If you gave Division your best of E3, and you voted something different for PS4, then that vote you cast for PS4 isn't really your honest choice of the best game you saw for PS4.

EDIT: A solution could be "Special Mention Award for PS4" and "Special Mention Award for PC" etc. instead of "Best PS4 Game"

That's just a resource system. It wasn't even really detailed in the walkthrough.

Did they say it's roguelike?

I disagree, X looks more impressive than MK. The tracks in MK don't hold a candle to the environments in X.

I think it comes down to preference, obviously Mario Kart is much more vibrant, runs at 60 FPS as opposed to 30, but isn't as detailed as something like X.
