Unconfirmed rumor and all that but if true

Edit: This tweet is old and in no way related to the thread as anything other than a reaction image.
Looks like MS aren't the only one's backtracking today.

Hahaha, well with all the backlash they really could not risk PS4 taking the gen that easly. I still belive the damage is done.

So, congratulations Gaf, I guess?
=P

Looks like MS aren't the only one's backtracking today.

Sadly I started the reply to the post way before the tweets were posted, so when I finished my post, the thread had things that made my post seem like a confirmation of thing I didn't know. Heck I was surprised when one poster said "that tweet is old" I was like "yes?"

Microsoft to Pull Complete Reversal on Xbox One DRM Policies
by Patrick Klepek on June 19, 2013

Sources indicate Microsoft is going to move away much of what's caused the company so much headache.
The tug-of-war between Microsoft and Sony just got more interesting. Multiple sources inform me Microsoft will announce what amounts to a complete reversal on its DRM policies for Xbox One today.

What does this mean?

No more always online requirement
The console no longer has to check in every 24 hours
All game discs will work on Xbox One as they do on Xbox 360
Authentication is no longer necessary
An Internet connection is only required when initially setting up the console
All downloaded games will function the same when online or offline
No additional restrictions on trading games or loaning discs
Region locks have been dropped

Possible in two months. But Kinect will remain part of the bundle.

Removing the 24 hour online check is not a big deal I guess.

As someone that hated the idea of not playing the next halo this would fan-fucking-tastic news.

I'm not sure this would make a difference in my pre-order, but it would certainly life the dark cloud hanging over next gen.

I think this is great news, not funny but great. Now if they get rid of the kinect all the time i might think about getting one.

Good for Microsoft and XBONE fans if they do this, this will set a precedent as one of the quickest and biggest backtracks ever if true.

Sadly for Microsoft, PS4 is still more powerful hardware wise and it is still 100$ cheaper.

I am hoping for, at the very least, an offline mode that relies on disc based authentication.

Anything is better than 24 hour check-ins.

Part of me doesn't want them to back track. I want to see what would happen if they actually tried to release it as is, just for the spectacle of it all.

Even if they fixed this aspect, the specs, bundled kinect, and price is still a huge concern for me (as a current Xbox only person).

There are still problems, but it would really change a lot of the conversation. Dropping that alone wouldn't convince me to switch, but it would make that a possibility were the other factors to be justified or fixed.

I could see the dropping the always online bit, not so much the used game DRM. The always online was overkill for what they wanted to do anyway, since irregular background check-ins would work just as well. The anti-used game thing though, that benefits Microsoft too heavily for me to see them giving up on that without a fight.

WhatHifi is a strange source but the fact they're saying it's going to happen in a few hours makes me think they've received a rock solid tip off.

Dis gon be gud
