Yes! I'm so glad the few MS apologists ridiculously defending these policies didn't end up winning. Hopefully by the end of today GAF will be back to being a harmonious place of people owning all consoles.

  • No more always online requirement
  • The console no longer has to check in every 24 hours
  • All game discs will work on Xbox One as they do on Xbox 360
  • An Internet connection is only required when initially setting up the console
  • All downloaded games will function the same when online or offline
  • No additional restrictions on trading games or loaning discs
  • Region locks have been dropped

Well that looks good. I guess we can also hope they drop the price to $400?

Fire Don, as well. He's head of the Xbox division, it was his decision to go along with this and thus taint the image of the brand over the past couple months.

Woah. And Patrick doesn't just report nonsense and unfounded rumors regularly so I'm inclined to believe this is really happening.

If this is really happening than Microsoft did see PS4 as a threat, and saw in the future a glimpse of their Xbox Division, burned to the ground lol.

Holy shit, I love this for the fact I want to see the reaction from all these gaming sites that still acting oblivious to what is going down. FUCKING AWESOME! If true.

All those services conceived around being always online, so rooted in the origins of the device itself, impossible to separate from the XBONE, it turns out MS only needed to flip a switch

If this comes to pass I really hope we always refer to it as the "whathifi" breaking news, and that whathifi becomes synonymous with breaking huge gaming news first.

I want Kinect and don't want to pay $150 for it; bundle it in for me. This news is insane, if true.

Well not saying they shouldn't have a Kinect bundle, but they should drop the requirement. Personally with Dead Rising 3 and Titanfall I would rather get an Xbone at launch, but only for the same price I would pay for a PS4 and with no intrusive DRM.

Still won't buy one at launch.

And if this does happen i expect a bigger shit storm from back peddling and not doing this to begin with.

But how could developers take advantage of the infinite power of the cloud then!!?!?!?!?

:lol I'm not sure if Microsoft comes off better or worse if they do a backtracking of this magnitude.

they'll take this egg on their face 5 months before launch - that will be forgotten in a couple weeks - and then take in extra sales form consumers not worried about resale rights.

ubelievable...

but i would really hate it if Microsoft now presents themselves as the super gamer friendly.

First remove something that people expect to have, than give it back to them and everybody says your the best, even if the others had it all the way. Don't let this happen Internet!

I think the thing to take away from this is that it's good that a "minority" of gamers speak loudly.

It's the only way to be heard over the complacency of those disseminating the news.

#NoDRM worked if this is true.

Wow, this would be incredible. I find it hard to believe, but Patrick being involved gives it some credence

This will surely come with a delay. Used games, 10 family members, mandatory installs, 24 hour check, "the cloud", participating retailers, region / country locking; all of this is part of their infrastructure which they'll have to completely scrap.
