Mark Cerny speaking on stage about the PS4

I feel very confident in the PS4 because this dude is in charge.

Fuck I will buy Knack just cause he is making it :O

No, but there is no need. Remote Play has already be described in detail. PS4 OS will stream all non-camera games to Vita, Sony will provide default control schemes, and developers will be obliged to submit their preferred control scheme.

Great, thanks.

Great watch! Cerny is certainly interesting and I can't wait to see what's in store for Sony this generation.

That was a really great listen. Was worried it was going to be completely technical to where I wouldn't understand (and therefore stop listening), but it was great to hear about Cerny's personal history and how it affected the development and philosophy behind the PS4.

It was also interesting to hear his early involvement in the PS3 and the differences between himself and Ken Kutaragi.

Haha, same here. I'll wait till it drops in price, though.

Great watch....but you still need to convince me to buy Knack Cerny...

Want to see some compelling gameplay already. You can be simple/intriguing at the same time, but I will certainly reserve judgment from just seeing brief sections of the game.

Fascinating to listen to, he's had a great history and I think Sony is very lucky to have had him onboard all this time, it's especially great to listen to someone who has a real passion for what he is doing rather than just another corporate mouth piece telling me what I am supposed to feel about whatever is going on.

To think without Yoshida, we might never have gotten Cerny, who gave rise to the likes of Naughty Dog, such a great history.

While I believe in Cerny's ambition, passion, and intellect when it comes to the development of the PS4 I am still beyond perplexed at the simplicity of Knack from a technical standpoint. He goes on how the architecture was chosen to give developers a short turnaround to "triangle" and how the unified 256bit bus GDDR5 route was much more advantageous than the split 128bit bus GDDR5 with eDRAM. Developers would be able to create powerful launch software with this approach versus the time it would take to master the eDRAM approach. I'm just not seeing this with Knack or Drive Club for that matter. Killzone, while visually pleasant, still runs at only 30fps. These are things that bother me and speak to the devils advocate side of me. This seems like a system engineered to take advantage of its power day 1 yet I'm not fully impressed with what I've seen so far. Call me crazy but these are things I've thought about since E3 and the reason I constantly think of holding off on purchasing PS4 for at least 6 months.

Then do that. Thanks for sharing though Crazy.

Great presentation. Shed a lot of light on many things and I liked how Cerny wasn't afraid to say how it really was. Also, I like how their whole approach to third party developers got completely revamped now and I wonder what Shu wants to do for his master plan in the future as he seems to be doing a lot of the heavy lifting.

The Insomniac reminder was pretty sad. Oh well.

Not that I should be complaining, but the video was starting to feel like I had a really bad case of Tinnitus though. lol ><

I had to read that several times to understand why you called him crazy. Good one.

I went and read that several times after you said this too...

Have you even listened to what he said?

Take advantage of its power in terms of fast programming and easy to manage system. Not in terms of pure graphics. That is obviously a part of the qualities that will improve with time, like every previous console.

Oh, and by the way, i'm assuming you're talking about the graphics, because unless you were at E3 or you are some developer, i don't think you could talk about other aspects.

the first party with PS4 are moving to a completely new architecture after spending time mastering the PS3's completely different architecture, so that may be why you aren't completely blown away with the 1st party output...but if you look at some of the 3rd party things being run on the system, they actually look just as, if not MORE impressive such as the division. With the ps4 being so easy to develop for, we may actually be in a situation where 3rd party games run side by side with the 1st party instead of what seemed to be like a half generation gap during the ps3 era.

Fantastic video. Anyone who doubted Cerny before watching that should be thoroughly satisfied by now. The guy is clearly a genius, by which I mean not just a smart dude, but an actual genius.

I am watching this now and am enjoying his talk immensely. I loved how he was tested by the engineering team when he joined the PS3 project as part of ICE.

I would love to work with him and other people passionate about their work.

This is what infuriates me the most about what Microsoft has been doing. Sony has been working its tail off building a good reputation, hiring the right people, and working with developers to put together a powerful, well-designed console that caters to gamers' wants and needs.

Microsoft comes along and tries to take away consumer ownership, shits the bed on console power, and announces the console with a freakin' TV showcase. They treat gamers like criminals and pirates, and basically flip us all a giant middle finger.

Then, they say "We've reversed course on everything! Oh, and the Xbone is more powerful cuz cloud." And people fall for it! Look at their sales position on Amazon! Go to IGN or GameSpot or any other message board and look at all the Boners there defending Microsoft's weak console with arguments about how the cloud will make it several times more powerful than PS4, or saying that it's good to not let indies self-publish because it keeps "garbage" like Journey off their platform (I swear to God, I read this in the comment section of the IGN article about Microsoft's Unity announcement today), and saying Kinect is going to be so awesome this time, so who cares if it's forced on you for an extra $100, as though we didn't hear these same amazing promises from Microsoft about the first Kinect.

And yeah, it's just the dregs of the Internet, but they represent the buying public; the kids in schoolyards who are fighting over which next gen console is best. As sad as it sounds, they are the taste makers, because when they or their parents buy the Xbone in droves, it will become the new hotness. And Sony will have lost North America again. By doing literally everything right.

Pathetic.

Awesome.

A sort of dream that become reality : a passionate creative person who lead and "create" a console.

Sure he had to make compromise, you can't simply "build" a console only with dream specs, but I'm sure he and the people around him, did their best.

In the end I think all gamers "must" buy this console just as sign of appreciation for the effort of this guy.

They won't. I've literally lost all faith in the American buying public, especially gamers. I'm calling it: Xbone wins NA by a wide margin.

But I'm doing my part. I just preordered Knack on Amazon.

Yes I did listen to what he said and yea when he was describing to the two methods they considered for bandwidth he was speaking to graphics capabilities. We're you listening? Also no I was not at E3 but in terms of what I saw I was not overly impressed. Not so much visually but from a performance side many of the games were lacking dropping below 30fps frequently.

I highly doubt so. Preorders show PS4 is clearly in front even in the US.

It will be a landslide in worldwide sales too.

I would love to know who booed him and exactly why?

He was just telling a story about meeting with devs and gauging a response on some plans they had for the PS4. Some guys booed which he claimed was beneficial and pretty much a quick way of organizing what they wanted the most out of a next gen system.

At the beginning of a generation: literally anything can happen.

When it comes to hardware (brand loyalty in particular) doesn't always mean that much that some people seem make it out to be. You can just look at the people who went from the SNES to PS1, as well as the people that went from the PS2 to 360 in one generation to another. Much of it depends on the games and the price and Sony is hitting a lot of the notes right with the PS4 in that regard there.

However, we will see not that long from now what happens, it will be an interesting next few months to say the least.

He was booed by some developers when he was still figuring out the PS4 hardware, and was traveling around giving presentations on it. He said he appreciated the boos since it gave Sony perspective on what direction to take on PS4.

I know that. I would love to know the exact reason why he was booed by the developer.

I agree with a lot Sony is doing but software for the launch lineup is not one. I think they blew too much on PS3 this year and should have saved some games for PS4. The Last of Us or GT6 would have been great at launch. Thought for sure we would get at least a cross platform announcement.
