In a lot of ways the setting and backstory to the game reminds me of the World of Darkness, specifically Mage.

i think im nearing finishing up Kingsmouth. im not really sure what to expect from Egypt. im half anticipating a complete tonal shift in the game. Theres probably another night or two of stuff for me to do in Blue Mountain and then i guess ill find out.

Does crafting become vital or an advantage at any point? i just go to Auction and get gear upgrades there for like 5-10k. i could have bought Blue Mountain vendor weapons but i just grabbed lvl 10 greens off AH for like 30k instead. i still have like 900k Secret World Bucks or whatever they are called.

Way early in release a few of us agreed that it felt like playing Bloodlines when you're in first person view. It definitely feels like a WoD setting at times. Fantastic game, damn.

I forgot to turn off auto-renewal for my 3-month-plan, so I guess I'm back in the City of the Sun God. Ugh, as much as I goddamn love the games settings, story and everything I just can't enjoy the combat. Everything is just run up to enemy and hit it with your point builders until 5/5 and then fire them off, repeat until dead. Dodge if wave starts going out from enemy.

It's really hard to get into after playing TERA.

Try Age of Conan if the combat is stale for you in this game. It's much better, though the questing isn't quite as interesting.

Ah damn, I forgot the sub is still optional, sorry.

No worries. That's how I got into this mess ;)

Already tried AoC and the combat is still too stale, plus the setting does nothing for me. I'm still gonna play and for certain enjoy TSW because of it's setting, character and story, but it's just such a shame that the combat isn't that interesting.

If you want a game with good action combat try DC Universe. i really like it. Counters, blocks, interrupts, tons of weapons each with their own combos.

Been playing in Egypt. i love it. A little shifting gears with the mood/theme but its just as awesome.

This game has some amazing antagonists. There is one guy in Egypt (i dont even know his name yet) that is totally menacing. The guy in the suit totally dissing the Prophet of Atan lol Heres a clip of him in action.

I just wanted to report back in and say that I stuck with the game, and yes, it finally clicked. Oh lord, did it click. The game assumes you know a lot about MMOs before you go in, which was a huge hurdle, but after a lot of time on forums and wikis I finally figured it all out and found myself playing "correctly". Now, I'm one mission away from having done every single mission on Solomon Island and have started testing the waters in Egypt. I have a few dungeons under my belt, too. And it's glorious. I'm having a fantastic time.

Probably the last thing I learnt that made me feel like a dumbass in retrospect is the need/greed system. It never gets explained, and I assumed that, at first, it was some sort of prisoner's dilemma, but that didn't make any sense. Then I assumed that if you clicked 'need' you got the item, and maybe 'greed' made it so that if you won you got money instead of the item. So, I just spammed 'need' whenever it came up.

Luckily, I was almost always playing with my wife, who thought the same thing and was also clicking 'need' all the time, and I had the sense to look it up and found an explanation on some forum for a different MMO before my last dungeon run. So, no one ever wanted to lynch me. That I know of.

Stale? That's the opposite of the word I'd use for AoC combat, though maybe you only played the early portion of the game. AoC probably has the deepest combat of any game I've ever played.

Now the game certainly has OTHER issues...

So "finally" took the painstaking time of running through Eldorado for 4 days straight, racking up 1800 Black Marks.

Now I can buy Venice QL10 purple stuff, 2 weapons with a glyph each, and all 7 Talismans each with a glyph.

WHAT TO GET, and why, I have never fully understood what stats go with what type of weapons/skills and so on.

I tend to like:
Shotgun/Assault Rifle in PvP zones and I have seen many Blade/Chaos, Blade/fist, Hammer/Fist, Hammer/Chaos, Blade/Hammer combinations from players that seems to be awesome, but lately I have in PvE been using Blade/Chaos instead of my normal Shotgun/Assault Rifle combo.

Anyone have suggestions what talismans/glyphs to get for some different combos like I just mentioned, even skill builds for them what glyphs the weapons for that build would be and so on.

Blade/Chaos (Build I'm currently testing, found in Secret World forums) - Cost: 915 AP (Link to Deck)

Actives
1. Clearing the Path
2. Forking Paths
3. Run Rampant
4. Four Horsemen
5. The Art of War
6. Martial Discipline
7. Illusion

Passives
1. Bloodsport
2. Iron Maiden
3. Flight of Daggers
4. 12 Gouge
5. Immortal Spirit
6. Circulation
7. Healing Sparks

Viper's Deck Manager Import:
Code:
VDM%-%7080580%-%7080589%-%7094276%-%7094295%-%7080595%-%5775985%-%6388427%-%6942580%-%6943080%-%7080604%-%7080855%-%5777459%-%6943144%-%6942834

Talismans that the person behind the build suggested for this build.

Escalith @ Secret World forums said:
I'd strongly recommend using a full set of blue dungeon gear. Signets are not required, but should make your fights easier/faster. Your gear should have around 200-300 Crit and around 200-300 Penetration. The rest does not matter as much, but a higher value of both as well as hit is always welcome.

1 Headpiece - +Attack. If with a proc, a Penetration Proc is preferred
2 Major Talisman + Attack
1 Major Talisman + Healing
1 Minor Talisman + Attack
1 Minor Talisman + Healing
1 Minor Talisman +Health (Preferably +Penetration on it. It solely adds a health buffer.)

Like my initial statement said, I'm looking on this from Venice QL10 purple (which will give me the stats way faster/higher and on less talisman slots then his QL10 blue), and are looking on suggestions to change alter/move Talismans around for improvement if someone have ideas.

Never been interested in a mmo but I love the Longest Journey series. How is this as a coop adventure game, as in just doing the story quests with a buddy? I'm interested because it is on sale for $15 on Amazon will the US code work in the UK?

I bought my Secret World code from Amazon in US, and applied it to my "European" Secret World account, so it works.

I play this game as a singleplayer game. Playing it co-operative will work for the most part, but if I'm not mistaken the storyline of quest often if not always sends you into a solo instance to complete while you work your way through it.

The only time I team up is in dungeons (5-man instances), and in a place refereed as the quarry (fast AP/SP when killing there as a team).

Also this games quests work by just being close to someone doing the same quest like you, If they solve a quest while you just stand there even if not in their party, many times your quest gets finished also.

So I think I caught the bug again. Played a few hours the other day and I've been itching to play more since beating Last Light. I've played a bit here and there in the past few weeks but have been preoccupied. Wish Templar GAF wasn't so dead :(

Anyone find themselves just signing in to hang out in London? Love the ambiance/score. What a feeling I get from this game.

@Mithos, I feel like I need to chat with you a bit on all that info. I'm not quite caught up on running the dungeons, black marks, etc... I need new gear though. Have any unbound QL10 blue/purple shotties ?

I usually log in on the weekends and roam around too without accomplishing much. I have not done the Kairo mission yet, should probably do that sometime :)

Yea I love doing that. Call me crazy but I really LOVE the atmosphere of this game. There's just something so amazing about it.

Anyway, where are they at on the next issue? Is Tokyo as a city stilla thing?

Don't think you need to be called crazy for that, the atmosphere in the game is better than most other games in general.

Really enjoy most everything in the game, but, it doesn't seem to scale well. Been playing on basically the lowest settings and the game runs like crap a lot of the time, not sure why.

Yea I've noticed that in regards to the technical performance. My only complaint. But, it's bearable most of the time and it's one of the better looking MMOs. Amazing art style, really nice IQ.

I picked up the game a couple of days ago from the Amazon sale and i was wondering if the GAF guild's still active?
I went with Illuminati on Arcadia.

Is there someone i could message to get an invite?

Thanks!

I can't speak for Illuminati GAF, but Templar GAF isn't quite as active as it used to be. I've only seen Feef play very recently, and I still go on and play a few hours a week. The cabal's were never extremely active; there was a handful of us that would do some missions and a few lairs back when the game was "new". However, there's still quite a bit of people playing I think, and you could find partners if you wish. The game works well both ways, but I prefer it as a solo experience. It's got a lot to offer the solo player.

I do not have much unbound at all, maybe 2 QL10(Blue) Talismans (I think) and 1 Talisman QL10 purple (healt-belt for waist slot).

About my earlier question about what gear and such, I couldn't wait very long (impatient >_<) I got what he suggested and it works good enough, ranged mobs are the Achilles'heal though for that build but I knew that already.

My Charactername: Teeyla

Blade/Chaos - QL10 Venice
Code:
Blade 10.0 with CritRating 10.0
Chaos 10.0 with CritRating 10.0

Talismans w. Glyphs - QL10 Venice
Code:
Piercing Ashes 10.2 with Penetration 10.0 - Head w. AttackRating
Brutal Ring 10.1 with CritRating 10.0 - Finger w. AttackRating
Accurate Amulet 10.3 with HitRating 10.0 - Neck w. Heal
Accurate Bracelet 10.0 with HitRating 10.0 - Wrist w. AttackRating
Piercing Dice 10.0 with Penetration 10.0 - Luck w. AttackRating
Fierce Buckle 10.0 with Crit/Pen 10.0 - Waist w. Heal
Piercing Bone 10.0 with Penetration 10.0 - Occult w. Health

I am of course not immortal with this gear and the skills (previous post), but I can relatively easy farm at Kingsmouth Airport and in Blue Mountain Quarry SOLO, because I have minimum of 1 heal DoT on myself, most of the time 2, and sometimes 3 DoT's (Immortal Spirit, Circulation and Healing Sparks).

I usually log in on the weekends and roam around too without accomplishing much. I have not done the Kairo mission yet, should probably do that sometime :)

I've been Lore-hunting, and Achievement-hunting lately ;p Haven't done Issue #6 either, cos it cost money, maybe sometime in the future.

UPDATE:
Decided to start saving for a PvP gear, thinking about Glance tank (everyone's favorite) or Heal/Tank suggestions on Talismans/weapon and glyphs to accompany is appreciated.

Mithos I may get in touch with you if you're playing. I really need to get caught up on gear and combat. I'm ql 10 on most stuff but I feel like I'm not as effective as I should be. Could be my semi-hiatus in the works.

Yeah, just throw me a pm/tell on Teeyla when your online.

//
DONE with my 1800 Black marks (again) now to research on what Weapons/Talismans/Glyphs and skills to get for PvP, to bad everyone is so damn secretive.

I think it's a fantastic value. So much to do and so much good story. Combat is whatever and graphics can be hit or miss (characters mostly). Still my favourite MMO after AoC, even if I do not play it regularily anymore.

I just picked it up on the Steam sale. Doing some research at work and hopefully building my character before the weekend at least. Any GAFers still playing?

Grabbed it since I always said I wanted to on Steam sale. Love the stories in The Longest Journey and Dreamfall, and if it's anything close to that, great.

Edit: is there a way to increase mission/lore/etc font size? Yeesh.

Yes there is actually. Within the interface settings you can set the scale.

Damn it, I missed the promotion, didn't I? It still said -50% on google search but it's back to 29.99 once I open the page :(

I set the scale to maximum and it still seems the mission/journal font is quite small, not to mention it makes part of the UI grossly huge. There seems to be a lot of HUD options though so I'll try to play around with it.

After about 5 hours of playing, I am actually enjoying it quite a bit, though it seems somewhat like a single player game, which is good too. I'm surprised by the lack of generic pointless MMO quests. The combat is not the best but still enjoyable, and mixing up 2 weapons of skills is fun.

I've got this installing at the moment, really looking forward to finally getting stuck in! I know next to nothing about the game, but I used to follow it way back when it was in development and was always intrigued by the setting and story.

I have one question - is there a faction that is considered of having the 'best faction story'? It's a bit of a lame question I know, but just curious. At the moment I'm tempted by the Illuminati just because they seem like an interesting perspective on things.

This game looks very interesting to me :). Trying to see if there is any way to get it farily cheap otherwise its waiting for summer sale I guess.

It's basically only the beginning faction missions that are hugely different, the other faction missions for ranks are just minor variations. I think go with the one you can sympathize with the most and/or like the faction outfits better.

Fair enough, cheers! The Templars seem too orderly and zealous for my liking and the Dragon a bit too wierd, so I'll go with the Illuminati.

Spent EIGHT HOURS playing this today. I went with the Illuminati, loved their intro quests and have been getting stuck into Kingsmouth, the writing really is superb. So many memorable characters already, but special mention must go to the Illuminati handler chick who had me in stitches.

On the combat side, I'm going fists + chaos, which is very enjoyable.

Aye, I freaking love the the handler. Her "origin" story is hilarious with the nods to buffy and shows like that.
