Let's think of some intuitive software ideas for the Wii U

Here's one:

Wii Teach U: Basically, a game in where the adult/teacher uses the Gamepad to write down problems or puzzles, which is then presented on the TV screen for the students to solve individually or together using either the Wii Mote or verbally (raise hands and say the answer). Perfect for home-schooling. It can include math problems, science problems, essentially any school problems in combination with fun puzzles. Great thing is one teacher can teach a group of students simply by using the Gamepad and the TV.

I'm surprised a game like this isn't available for the Wii U already, nor has anything like it been announced.

What are some of your ideas?

An adventure game where you can use the pad also as a "deflector": in some instances, you will be attacked and you'll need to incline the GamePad in order to guard it with the front part, accumulating the energy attack. Then, you can release it just by directioning on certain enemies / places. These would be executed in bullet time. Or also with puzzles that need to directionate things like Sun's rays through the pad.

This sounds amazing for a first person boss fight in Zelda U.

A Zelda game where the GamePad is used to see the "other" world, think Dark World in LTTP.

I think they can easily create a whole game out of that, they can also spice it up and switch it, instead of showing the past or other world, it can show the future.

Brick the console with a message:

"Woops! Something went wrong here, we'll be back with a new console shortly."

You could make some pretty neat puzzle mechanics with the Gamepad/stylus.

A Yoshi-platformer in vein of Banjo-Kazooie and Super Mario 64 with these controls:
I would utilize Wiimote and Nunchuk, but also the GamePad as a second screen next to the TV. You move Yoshi using the analogstick, jump with A, eat with B and center the camera behind Yoshi's back with C. Using Z you can stomp when in the air and if you keep pressed down on the d-pad, Yoshi can only strafe, but he cannot change his viewing angle anymore. Then you can aim with the Wiimote on the GamePad, which is showing a first-person-perspective of Yoshi all the time (while the TV shows the game from a 3rd person perspective similar to Banjo-Kazooie for instance). Letting go off the d-pad lets you throw the egg, using Z you can cancel the egg-shooting.

Pokemon Snap U
Mario Paint U

it's not fucking hard Nintendo

After playing Picture in Game & Wario I'd agree with this.

Actually that game was full of creative and fun ideas with the pad. Though it ought to have been released at launch on a budget price it's got some of the far better uses and justifications for the pad. Would have been a way better pack-in than NintendoLand.

Gamer in particular is funnily enough one of the best horror experiences.

Old mockup but if Saints Row IV or a game similar to it came to the WiiU i could see this being in it

Other idea: a Mario title with the Pipe powerup, in order to become Pipe-Mario.
Powers? Transforming himself into a fake Pipe for not being noticed by Goombas, and even attracting some enemies in going into the Pipe. GamePad would be used for shooting them anywhere, and this can be used for solving puzzles as well.

Obligatory dungeons and dragons request

One player on the pad is DM, 4 on screen playing an action rpg

Dungeonland on PC but with more rpg mechanics would be perfection

Cluedo
Monopoly
Game of Life
Risk
Snakes & Ladders
Any number of Warhammer titles
D&D

I mean come on, why the fuck hasn't this happened yet. The Wii U could be the digital board game master machine.

a spiritual successor to actraiser where one player is using the pro controller and TV to playout the action scenes, and simultaneously another player using the gamepad is doing the "world building" to affect the action.

I'll bring up Canvas Curse because I want another Canvas Curse.

With hand drawn like art (Like Wario Land: Shake It!) or something, I don't know.

I just want another.

Someone else can figure out any other features...

I agree with Trauma Center and Pokémon Snap, not Mario Paint (MP is dead, it's all for Art Academy now and it's coming).

Also, I would take some FTL (orders with stylus and battle view on TV).

Part of this descrpition reminds me of the shield parts from Ryse. I never thought of it before, but using the pad as a Spartan shield could be....interesting.

Super Pong.

First Person Perspective. The TV and GamePad screen display the Pong volley as its coming toward you. The GamePad is the paddle. You must move the paddle to meet the ball and return the volley.

Yup, that's what I came in here to post. Can't believe there isn't anything like this in development. Indies will have to make it.

A game where you can use the gamepad to type words that come to life that you can interact with.

Maybe work Batman, Superman and other DC superheroes into the mix somehow.

Detective Game, using the game pad as your connection back to CSI for forensics and other details. You hold the game pad up to snap pictures and send them back to the lab. It has some basic abilities outside of the lab, like instant fingerprint capture to the NCIC database, and lookups in the same. Send photos of people back for facial recognition scanning.

Or a spy game that uses the pad in a similar manner.

Also, they should be hitting up the Euro board game companies and soliciting games like Catan, Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride, Powergrid, etc. That's just a no-brainer. Family oriented board games could be a big seller, especially in Europe.

These are potential ideas you unmasked, indeed.

I don't really like Penny Arcade, but sometimes they are spot on.

this...

just add a decent online mode and let people design and share their quests.

also, something like Etrian Odyssey, but more complex.

I had that game idea way back for Gamecube + GBA connector.

Me and like 5,000 other game designers lol

It's so duh...

A racing game where parts of the tracks are destryoed while racing and you can create ways for passing across those parts on the pad itself on the fly. Think about team races too, where the "captain" traces multiple paths for his whole team partners.

Okay, this might be a bit far-fetched but stay with me.

Imagine a simulation racer where you're driving a sports car, or any car. Let's dream big here.

And on the gamepad there is a big car horn button you can honk to indicate if there is danger on the road.

This would also work with all of the Smart Glass stuff, but I really want a Rally Racing game where the player with the GamePad is given a list of upcoming turns, and has to call them out for the driver. I'm sure you could do some other neato navigation stuff with it.

That's actually a great idea!

This thread already has already unlocked more potential with GamePad than Nintendo's future Wii U lineup combined.

Have a game that normally plays in third person, and have the gamepad locked in first person.

Simple enough to not require a metric crapton of effort, but interesting enough to be mindblowing.

That, or the other ideas in this thread.

Hmm... You could make a fantastic horror game with this where you're constantly hunted by one enemy throughout the entire game.

Oh god, this is brilliant. Especially for a horror game.

Hell, the Wii U is set up to completely revolutionize horror, I'd think.

So the Mirror Shield then. :P

This would be amazing.

Also, porting Okami to the Wii U would make a bunch of sense. Using the touch screen for the brush strokes would be perfect.
