Skullgirls PC Beta Thread | Gettin' Squigly Wit It

Im 95% sure I am about to buy this one steam, but I have a couple of questions.

1. Any single player content? Id be fine with just a training mode and arcade ai fights, just curious.

2. Do I get access to the beta to play as soon as I preorder?

1. The beta will soon have the single player stuff removed, but the core game has story modes for each character, each featuring a lot of nice art.

3. Yeah, you'll get a beta key as soon as you pre-order. The beta keys giving out by the media expire when the game releases, but the ones that come with purchases are permanent and will let you try out new characters and gameplay changes into perpetuity.

Wait, why is the single player being removed?

I've been asking around, but I haven't gotten an answer yet. Does GamersGate plan on carrying the 4-pack? I'd prefer to buy it there over Steam if only for the blue coins.

I just bought it tonight, and the answer to both is yes. Oddly, you get access to the story mode but not the arcade mode.
 
Calendar reminder for this popped up on my phone this morning to which I kind of wistfully shook my head due to blowing all my money during the sales. Hoping a few other sites give away beta keys at some point, I'd really like to check it out before making any rash decisions.

I see. I guess I can use the 360 beta for some single player practice then. Kinda sucks for characters other than Bella or Peacock though.

Ravidrath, will Top 8 of the tournament be streamed? Or is that not possible without having lobbies in yet?

I don't think we'll be able to stream Top 8, but hopefully we can at least get everyone to FRAPS their matches?

Spectator mode should be in by then, but I'm not sure how well streaming a spectated match would be?
 
Wow, on a 120hz monitor this game is almost too animated. Distracted and getting my jiggly ass handed to me.
 
One thing I don't like about the assist system is that you can't press an attack button and assist button at the same time so that they both come out. Would have been better if the assist system were more like mvc2.

You should tweet the links out to your friends when more codes appear on CheapAssGamer, Destructoid, Polygon and Shacknews. Honestly, Euro and Asian gaffers should be vigilant. They could play a big part in bringing a larger international audience to the beta.

I can play NY to Germany alright but that seems kind of dangerous to be saying, some may take you literally.

FYI, Shacknews will be giving away 100 codes at 10AM PT. It will be first-come, first-serve via the comments section. We'll also be giving away more on Facebook, but not exactly sure the timing on that. Just thought you guys would appreciate the heads-up.

It's both.

You can play it entirely with a controller, or partially with one.

Like, you could put a button on the keyboard and the rest on the controller if you wanted.

...I don't think that's what the Steam options were, though, when I plugged them in.

Edit: Yeah, the things I selected were "Controller Enabled" and "Full Controller Support." So it's just dumb terminology on their end.

No one answered this so I'll jump on it. The beta will automatically be linked to your Steam account. Its not a key or anything. Adding Skullgirls to your library will also add the beta to your library.

I haven't played for a long time and I don't like the changes they've made to Painwheel. I liked my pinwheel dash wallbounce combos and her j.mk being fast enough to combo off a flight cancelled hp. With that said I love what I've played of Squiggles.

Best way is to delete the file and then relaunch the game, that will set everything to defaults.

It's really annoying having Keyboard 2 always enabled, I can't rebind my keys to what I want (WASD to move). I'm really, really enjoying the game though, I also have a spare beta key I might throw towards modbot.

Hopefully Euro and Asian gaffers pick up on this. I don't have much use for it as an East Coast American player. There are low pings all over the place for me. :)

Leaderboards weren't working last time I checked so it is a random free for all, I think. Luckily there are a TON of newbies on right now. I can tell just by the way mash and move.

You should be happy. She was more or less unofficial bottom tier in slightly different edition. The Painwheel in the beta is the strongest she's been sine Vanilla version last year. Most PW players are actually pretty happy with her. Then again... they've been playing continually since day one.

Yeah, I stopped playing once my friends left the game pretty early so my only frame of reference is vanilla Painwheel. I do like some of the changes like her drive only costing 2 meters now but I think I'll use it as an opportunity to learn new characters, I can always just go back to her as I've already figured out some variations on my old combos. It's a stupid reason to ditch the character given she still has her flying rush-down nonsense which is what made her good in the first place, I just really longed the feel of her revving up when you plinked.

I've more or less done the same now that Peacock takes a bit more work to use.

I wish these were handled differently by showing the presets and letting you change them one at the time. I just couldn't set them the way I wanted without messing them up, so I've been stuck on default.
