Skullgirls PC Beta Thread | Gettin' Squigly Wit It

Managed to get a beta key, I can't run the game in 1920x1080 for some reason, and everytime I go to config keys it doesn't work and just messes up the layout, now I can't even go in menus

Trying to set WSAD for movement, and numpad for everything else

Fightpad dude, preferably a actual Saturn Model 2 controller modded with a USB input. :)

So when redeeming a code I got from Siliconera's contest yesterday, I noticed it said "Revocable" in parentheses. Do we lose access to playing after some time if we redeemed a beta code from a site who gave one out?

Really enjoying the game, btw. The PC version is smoooooth.

Yup, the Beta distributed to the different sites is a temporary one that will expire August 22nd when the official release happens.

Ravid, you're going to be able to juggle this with the FF14 launch healthily, right? Priorities!

Just bought a two-pack for me and my PC-only, never-played-a-fighting-game, friend. Hoping it'll open some doors for her. If she watches next year's EVO with me, I'll consider this a success.

Ah, okay. So if I wanted to purchase it off of say, Gamefly, I could redeem the real beta even with this one in my library?

Beta GET!, but the Gamefly 20% off code doesn't work for me. Is it a different code for the UK, or is the offer US only?

Now to install Better DS3 so i can use my Fighting Commander Pro on it.

Have played for the first time for three hours last night, played some matches, then some tutorials, then some matches.

I'm not very good at fighting games, but I have fun in them. Is there an online ranking thing to match you with players of your same 'skill level'? I ask since my first three rounds I fought with people who seemed pretty new like me, and was able to win my first three matches, but then the rest of the matches I suddenly was fighting people who were obviously much better at the game than I and I got my ass kicked every round except for one where I barely managed to win. Tutorials did help, I went through them until midway through chapter 3, but still a lot of room to improve.

I apologize if this has been asked before, but is there any way to do player matches? A friend and I were trying to get a game going, but we can't find anything but ranked.

There's no rank based matchmaking at this point, it's just a roll of the dice.

Not at the moment, no. This was possible in the console version (and instant rematch) but I'm assuming they're rolling that feature into the lobbies they're creating and should be deploying shortly.

I've just been using other regions to sort of "create" a ranked match for playing with others, just tell your friend to set it to a certain region and settings and search and 9 times out of 10 you'll get matched together.

Do any characters in the game have an assist that blocks projectiles, I seem to recall Cera has some crazy armour attacks but I'm not sure if they'd work? Squiggly seems totally dependant on getting her charged specials to deal with zoning given her lack of mobility and they're impossible to get if you're being zoned.

See:
Computer->C drive->users->user name->my documents->Skullgirls->Save data

I believe deleting everything inside (not the save data folder itself) resets everything. I had an even worse issue where the game wouldn't start and doing that fixed everything right up.

Pick a rarely used region and set it to search "only mine". It worked well for me. I wouldn't pick Africa. A lot of people are using that one.

Hmm the only two I know of is Parasoul and Cerabella.

Cerabella has an actual projectile counter, that works on nearly all of Peacocks projectiles besides the steam roller.

Parasoul has her charged Egret move that has one of her goons dive in front of her and absorb all projectile attacks.

i wish i had seen that the update got rid of single player. i would have switched to offline mode for a few weeks... it's the first fighting game i've bought in years and playing online is pretty not fun

Thanks, think I'll start working on Cera tomorrow.

Hey guys! Does anyone here want to jump on a 4pack with me and my friends? We're looking for 1 or 2 more to complete it. PM me if you're interested!

wait am I missing some way to get a code
Media Partners
CheapAssGamer, Destructoid, Polygon, Shacknews, Siliconera

Codes distributed by media partners are restricted-use codes, but will offer full access to the game’s multiplayer modes until the game’s official release on August 22nd. Beta codes received from Lab Zero Games’ wildly successful Indiegogo campaign or pre-orders will never expire, letting players test new changes and characters before their official release.

Keep an eye on one of these websites and you should be able to get a beta code eventually.

Was hoping the flood of new betas would mean people would be willing to play but nope, everyone sees my aussie ping and room no longer available. sigh

Add Nedjoe on Steam and we can try and que at the same time to find each other!
Will be fun to get an aus lobby going once they are implemented.

Around what ping do you average with others? I've been avoiding any pings higher than mid-200 but occasionally when I hit accept instead of deny for a high ping game I'm surprised to see the other person accepted as well.

So long as we're not talking 400 or so ping here, I think I'll bite the bullet and accept higher ping games if they're the only games some people can even get.

Holy shit this game is fun as hell. The online is amazing.

Is the lobby in the console version? Can you invite multiple people and spectate other matches or how does it work?

Lobbies will be exclusive to the PC version for a little while, as per our agreement with MAQL.

Our lobbies let everyone play at the same time, instead of only having one match at a time.

When they first go into the beta they won't have Spectator, but that's coming.

No lobbies or spectator mode in the console version, but there are friend lists (PSN/XBL), so you can invite people directly that you want to play with.

Do you have an estimation on how much time there will be between the PC release and the PS3 version getting the Squigly/balance update?

The agreement with MAQL says any new features in the PC version are exclusive for 6 months.

So they'll probably be in the Big Band console patch.

I was reading that the crowndfunded characters will be free for the first 3 months in the other thread. My assumption is that they would cost money after that time? I'm against the concept of Paid characters in any multiplayer based game whether its League of Legends or SFxTekken. I feel paid characters create equality, fragmentation of the community and in some cases a advantage to the paying user if said character plays to their strengths.

The guys over at Romino Games will be releasing their 10th character for free soon for Awesomenauts, never have charged for one. They do charge for cosmetic and premium skins for there game as a means of funding their efforts for the free characters. Outside the crowdfunded characters my concern is what happens when you decide to release 2, 3 or 5 more characters? Do you plan on charging money for them? If this business model can work for devs like Romino, GGG or Valve, then why not you? I have no issues with charging for cosmetics, costumes and vanity items and have gladly supported said company's with my dollar.

Ravidrath consider this my beta feedback to you whether you want to listen or not.

So I had a go of this earlier on. had some trouble getting my PS3 pad to work, only to find that my Hori fightpad works on PC right out of the gate, so no need. :p

The main thing i want to say is how nice the training mode is, really informative about the game system and how to actually do things like combos and super-cancels
unlike most fighters I could mention
KOFXIII
- stupendous work there, devs. The only problem with it is that it can make the unwary novice think he's actually ready to play against other people online. Well, one mercifully short match of getting absolutely #rekt destroys that delusion, that's for sure.

Yeah, I'm gonna need some more practice.

And i agree with Gev in principle, though I also realise that 2D spritework of the caliber seen in SG is not cheap. Just...make 'em as cheap as possible, eh, chaps? Or how about doing what SNK did and offerintg new stages, music and other goodies with them as they come out? That certainly made actually having to buy Mr, Karate easier to swallow.

This was confirmed for a while now.

I agree with you in principle, but our characters cost a lot more to make than those games' do. If we ever have the kind of success that would let us spend $250k per character consistently just to drive sales of the core game, I think we'd definitely go that route, but right now that's just not in the cards.

Just doing some back-of-the-napkin math, to make free characters work for us, we'd have to be able to guarantee that each free character would generate at least 12,000 additional sales of the core game just to break even.

And, if you look at the comments from Seth Killian and Dave Lang, our character prices are actually cheap by industry standards.

And, yes, we're going to be charging $5 for the DLC characters after the three month period is over. This is to try and limit the "freeloaders" but also encourage people to buy the game sooner than later, so they can get all the characters when they're free.
