Media Create Sales: Week 32, 2013 (Aug 05 - Aug 11)

It exists on PS3.
...they should've localized it instead of putting it on Wii U, though I wonder if that trailer of the husband getting whacked for 'cheating' with digital waifus had a negative effect...

Negative ? It was perfect for Yakuza games audience ;)

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
One Piece flopped. Wonder if this has any bearing to how Unlimited Word Red will perform?

How would be 25k a flop for a game that came out not even a year ago on a platform with a bigger userbase ? The cost to port must be low and they are happy having it on 3DS so they can release it in europe as well. The performance doesnt have much to do with Unlimited R which is a completely different and new title which is being promoted way stronger.

I dont know why everyone has always such high expectations for these quick publisher cash-grabs ;-)

Vita holding on and doing almost double what it was doing last year, nothing amazing but still nice.

3DS dominating software so hard.

Yakuza fail U Sega

Fucking heat waves.

Yakuza's fanbase is on PS3 anyways, although I'm sure a few Yakuza fans already own a Wii U its such a niche and specialized franchise that yeah, looks like it didn't chart at all ROFL.

This is not up for Nagoshiation.

Who prob. already have the game on PS3 and don't own or prob. have no interest in owning a Wii U >_>;

I don't want to sound like a Wii U hater, but finding out it didn't even chart is worrying, so I hope it'll manage to do so next week.
...unless...it's digital sales were higher?

Eh, I guess the ports in Unlimited Cruise SP kinda inflated my expectations since those did very well on 3DS, but you make a good point about EU since the PSP game was never released there.

It's good to see the 3DS back up near 60k rather than the 40 it was sitting at.

Crazy how even with a brand new platform how much hardware sales are down.

Also its pretty obvious pikmin 3 wont have the gigantic legs of the first game

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
I think we all know why Chris compiled the MC chart with micro and nanometers.
They are the only measures to know how much Yakuza on Wii U sold.

I still don't really understand why the 3DS is half a million units down on last year. I know it'll explode / beast / dominate / whatever in a month or two, but is it normal for a platform to show such a decline in the middle of its life, when there's a shit-ton of software being released?

Was the first 6 months of last year particularly strong or something?

Jesus Christ, Killer is Dead is already out of the top 20 after its second week.
And Dream Team has got dem legs.

Well they shipped the game already, and retailers are slashing price heavily, so...
It's not like retailers have choice, though, because if they don't order M&L much they won't get Pokemon copies.

Last year, 3DS XL released around this period.

But its been down all year. But the trinity really pushed the 3ds for months last year and nothing was able to top it. I would be more worried about next year rather than this year though as it will obviously decline, but to what extent is unknown

True, but the UC games werent on a handheld before and there wasnt much of a competition on the 3DS back then. Right now people already had One Piece Musou 2 ( also on a handheld) and the upcoming World Red to look forward to, which makes this really is a release for only the most hardcore OP fans or people who dont own a PSP - especially since the mixed reception the original title got.

3DS passing Wii LTD in a couple of months, damn.

Vita is not terrible right now in Japan, but it will struggle to reach Dreamcast level of sales worldwide.

And holy shit at Yakuza off the charts. I thought it would bomb, but not this hard.

Making jokes about the Yakuza sales is like kicking a dead horse. It was obvious that the consumers don't want the WiiU and the WiiU userbase is too small to support a port of a HD port.

So it probably would've fallen even further behind were it not for the big one-two punch coming up?

I dunno man, doesn't seem healthy to me. Not for (by far) the biggest dedicated platform in Japan.

Well the market isn't exactly healthy at least in comparison to last gen. Software support is spotty from a few publishers and mobile/social seems to be eating a lot of resources. The 3DS will still outsell the ps2 in the end which is great. Hopefully the ps4 can be more like the psp than ps3. But 3DS software sales are still good and it has a very active base with all the games that keep selling

Edit: lol the heat wave thing will live in infamy

Also psv seems to have stalled which is a decentish number. No way wiiu outsells it at that baseline.

Huh? I don't follow. No way it ever takes Vita LTD you mean? Sure maybe if Nintendo never releases any more games. If that's not what you meant, then what?

What a healthy platform the 3DS has become. Look at all those titles in the top 20...

And the reckoning has yet to come.

Can't wait for Media Create threads in September. Good lord, it will be glorious.

Oh sorry there was a discussion a while ago about whether wiiu could beat vita this year which already seemed very unlikely, but its essentially impossible at this rate

What point are you making here? It would be behind if not for the big one-two puncher coming up? Well the 3DS also likely be ahead if MH4 had launched in March as originally planned so not sure what you're getting at. Last year the 3DS has greater momentum coming into the year and a stronger Q1/Q2 lineup, this will be offset somewhat later with MH and Pokemon but it remains to be seen if it'll be big enough to overcome NSMB2/3DSXL and later on, Animal Crossing.

Good points- didn't know about the mixed reception thing, too. I was really surprised by how well it sold last year. I guess being positioned in the holidays also helped.

uh... Yakuza doesn't even seem to be on the Famitsu top 30 c_c

Week 14 is when it fell behind.

Hardware sales slow down, pick-up, and etc. for whatever reason. As long as it isn't selling terrible numbers, you should be looking at software sales numbers to determine whether it's healthy.

This is true.
Are the Japanese also buying a lot of their Vita games online?

If you want to know why there is only 1 vita game there, there is no other vita game with the legs to show back up as no big vita game has been released.

December 2011 saw Mario Kart 7 and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, probably giving the system a lot of momentum into 2012.

edit: oh, SM3DL in November as well.

My eyes are definitely on the PS4. If that one flops out of the gate, you have to wonder what's going on over in Japan.

My point was exactly what I said. I find it weird that by far the biggest platform in Japan is in decline at this stage of its life, despite a constant stream of software. It just doesn't seem like it should be half a million units down.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Not even in top 30... did Yakuza HD even sell 2k, 1k?

I mean that really is it for WiiU third party beyond massive money hats.

Yeah, I agree. I don't think continuously describing the 3DS as "beasting" is quite accurate since it's down pretty big year over year both YTD and weekly. It'll likely crush all other platforms this holiday, but overall it's not looking quite as healthy as I'd expect. What these charts look like a year from now will be interesting.

Oh sorry there was a discussion a while ago about whether wiiu could beat vita this year which already seemed very unlikely, but its essentially impossible at this rate

Ah. It'll outsell Vita late this year week by week (well, at least it had better, unless the doom is even worse than the pessimists could have possibly imagined), but not by enough to catch up LTD. YTD? I think it still has a shot, but it'll be tough with that gap currently continuing to grow slowly.
