Dualshock 4 vs Xbox One Controller comparison video

Have they shown ANY use whatsoever of that touchpad on the DS4? Is this going to be another Sixaxis, altho this time the useless feature takes up physical space on the controller?

Guerrilla said you can control the combat drone with the touchpad.

Blizzard said they want to use it for D3 inventory management.

Sucker Punch wants to use it for some kind of "finger scanning" minigame, but that sounded very gimmicky.

Other than that I haven't heard of anything, but I can imagine it will be great for UI navigation/browsing the web and stuff like that.

I think you can control the drones in Killzone using that touchpad ? I vaguely remember something like that...
*edit : see above. My memory isn't so bad after all. :p

This is probably the 3rd time I see the X1 controller having the Eneloop AA rechargeable batteries. If true then I will be a happy camper.

The Eneloop batteries are the best rechargeable batteries you can get. I have used them for years and never let me down.

Yes there's a youtube video showing it being used briefly in a video from at least 8 weeks ago. The video is around 3 minutes long, it's not an official Sony video and it's of some kind of indie game with 2 players on the screen. It's around 90 seconds into the video, I saw it linked here on gaf a while back. You could maybe search my history for touch pad but I can't guaruntee you'll find it (sorry)

I'm glad the triggers are wider on the Xbox One controller compared to the Xbox 360. I've always felt they were far too thin on 360.

I'm gonna go ahead and place myself in the "both controllers are freaking awesome" club.

Aesthetics have reached new levels, with some exceptions (the ugly greeen of Xbox covers for example)

The Xbox One controller should be about $20 cheaper. The dual shock 4 has more features (built in battery, six axis gyro, capcitive touchpad, speaker, headphone jack) that justify the $60 price tag. And, after watching the Playroom demo I would put the light bar's ability to track the controller in the there as well. At its core the Xbox One controller is basically a Xbox 360 controller with some little rumble motors in the trigger. Not worth the asking price to me.

Xbone controller also has a lightbar, it's just not visible to the human eye...

I do believe both will be great controllers.I'm sure a little vibrating tickle under my index finger from the XB1 triggers is going be interesting, because I do plan on eventually getting both, but I just wish the price reflected what you are getting and not just price parity.

Comfort and feel can be subjective so my contention is with the price of the XB1 controller when compared with the technology that's in the PS4 controller. I can understand why I'm paying $60 for the DS4 based purely on a hardware feature set. Its hard for me to make that case for the XB1 controller, I mean "AA batteries for $60" really.

I've heard Xbone has rumble in the triggers, while PS4 has a very high tech rumble all the way throughout the controller? I'd like to know which is actually better

Definitely prefer the Xbox One controller. The analog placement, the triggers, and the lack of a distracting light bar make it the superior choice for me. The Dualshock 4 does look pretty cool though, but I don't like the look of those triggers (they still seem a bit too wide to feel like actual triggers), and while the analog sticks look much better than the Dualshock 3 sticks, I still prefer the offset placement. And as many have already stated, that lightbar is going to be a problem if it can't be switched off. The touchpad looks really cool though.

The rumble in the triggers for the Forza demo sounded pretty impressive.
I mean that sounds good, but I heard there were demos on the PS4 controller at E3 where you could feel the difference between water swishing around in the controller and small objects rattling around

I hear murmerings of a slightly improved DS4 rumble only in the last week or two, it wasn't really made clear this was adjusted in the press at E3, makes me feel like it's a bit of a "me-too" reaction and perhaps just minor changes.

The Xbox does have a totally revamped rumble system which sounds impressive (shame I'll never get to use it)

Uh, this is a very good thing. Ds3's sticks are way, way too loose and looser than virtually every other controller out there.

I know some people are very, very use to dualshock sticks, but believe me, once you spend like...a day adjusting it is objectively much better.
This is a horrible thing. The looser sticks makes you more accurate than stiff sticks. It allows you to use less force for small movements which is what you need to get precise shots in shooters. When you have stiff sticks you will use too much force to move the stick so you will overshoot. This is one of the reasons why FPS freeks improve the 360 controller more than the PS3 because of the dumb decision to make stiff sticks. The only people who like stiff stocks are the ones who slam the sticks to the edges instead of trying to be accurate. Good COD players do not make large stick movements unless they need to turn around quickly. That is why they play on a higher sensitivity than most. One of my friends had a habit, like many people, of hitting the edges 24/7. He had a .87 kill to death ratio in MW2. He had 5.1 headphones so hearing people's footsteps were no problem. The problem is that he was inaccurate and had such a low sensitivity that turning took what felt like a year. He would almost always get out shot. So I decided to teach him the correct way to play. Since he could already distinguish footsteps, all that I needed to do was get him to make smaller movements. After a while he finally got it and went from a 2 sensitivity to a 5 in MW2. His K/D went from .87 to 1.2 in a few hours of mastery. We then went to the 360 to pay COD (All of this before was on the PS3). He complained that the 360 controller's sticks were too tight and did not so add good as on PS3. He even played at that time more on the Xbox 360, but ended up preferring shooters on the PS3! He still likes the shape of the 360 controller more than the DS3.

For me now, I would play with a mouse because it is so much more accurate, but if I play on console then I don't want a horribly designed stick made for people who have not learned how to play the game that requires accuracy.

No, they said enhanced rumble for DS4 at the PS4 unveiling in Feb, whatever that means. Sony so far has not done a me-too reaction with PS4...at least I don't think they have.

The rumble motors now operate independently with frequency and speed improvements. At the 1:30 mark he talks a little about what new in the the DS4 rumble.

Pretty clear xbox one pad is "more of the same", ds4 is wayyy different than ds3

To be fair, Sony was the one who had to make more changes. But yeah the Dual Shock 4 is quite a bit different than DS3. Not only in design but feature set.

Naw, people who played the PlayRoom demo knew. Anyone else who skipped it did not.

I think both controllers look and will feel great. I like the layout of the triggers and the thumbstick design on the Xbox One's pad. What intrigues me most about the Dualshock 4 is the textured handles and the touchpad which should make navigating menus and web browsing much more intuitive.

Have a bad feeling that the triggers on PS4 controller will still feel awkward for FPS

After the extended song and dance Sony has done about the triggers and FPs in general, I cannot imagine where you get that from.

Both look great overall. The only thing I don't care for is the light bar on DS4...it's just ugly and might glare on the screen.

Who doesn't want a big flashlight light in their lap while playing their favorite game?

The only rumble feature I want is to be able to permanently turn it off for everything like I can on PS3.

Almost everyone that's actually used one has said they're fine.

Always preferred the 360 controller, found the PS3 one a bit light but at least both sides are continuing to improve their controllers. Really need to get hands on and see what the weight is like for the new Xbox controller.

Both look solid. The touchpad can prove to be very useful on the DS4. If only Nintendo iterated on their controllers aswell. Give me a refined GCN controller :(

How do these compare to WiiU's pad and gamepad?

Both the WiiU GamePad and Pro Controller lack analogue triggers (why Nintendo?!) so in that regard they fall short of both the DS4 and the One conttroller.

The rumble in the U Pad is terrible, though I find it quite good in the Pro. The Pad battery life is terrible at around 3 hours, but the Pro lasts for 80 which is awesome. I'm not sure on the battery life of the DS4 or the One controller so I don't know how they compare.

Other than that it's just your prefered stick placements. I really dig the set up of the WiiU Pro Controller personally. And obviously the Pad has the screen and all the features that brings with it.

I'm pretty pleased with all the new systems controllers to be honest.

I'm on the opposite side of this frankly. I feel that everytime I used the ps3 pad I'd overshoot where i was aiming due to weak resistance. Now that could be using the 360 pad for 7 years but I really disliked the ps3 controller it's looseness made it feel cheap

Both look and sound like they are gonna be awesome to use.

I am a tad worried about the "lack of resistance" in the One's triggers though

Since I'll be buying most multi platforms on PC the most important consideration for me will be driver support. The DS4 should be better than DS3 on this front but I'm thinking the new Bone controller will suit my comfy couch needs better. Hopefully Sony sorts their shit out since the trackpad will be useful for navigating PC menus.

So when I use the USB plug with the DS4 controller, it will turn off the wireless and will run power through the cord like a true wired controller?

Actually I don't know. I can use my DS3 wired with my computer, so I'm guessing that when I wire it up to PS3, it stops using bluethooth signal and acts like a true wired controller. If that is the case for DS3, then it will be true for DS4, because they use the same tech. But I'm not 100% sure on any of this.

Don't forget there is a second set of motors in the triggers and the pad has built in 5.1 audio for higher def headsets. Those probably explain its price tag.

It gets the 5.1 audio by having more expensive wireless tech: WiFi Direct. So it has way more bandwidth & much better latency than Bluetooth. You'll probably start seeing some kind of attachments besides headsets to the bottom: next-gen chat pad anyone?

Also, the XB1 controller has an infrared emitter in it to communicate invisibly with Kinect. Much better than DS4 since you don't have a crazy light shining off your controller. Kind of funny they include that light but then don't require the PSEye. So I guess PS4 owners are paying for something that they most likely will never use.
