In terms of story mode, it could work two different, equally interesting ways.

1. Humans are there, and the main backdrop is the P-1 Gran Prix, this time taking place in different stages all over the Pokemon world. Each trainer and their fighting Pokemon have a chapter in story mode.

2. No humans, like Mystery Dungeon, and the Pokemon talk and fight. Judging by the stage in the picture, this probably isn't the case.

The game can also incorporate other Pokemon mainstays, like hold items, abilities and potions in the single player.

Someone take the TTT2 roster and try and associate a Pokemon with each character. :P

feel free to do the rest. :P

This is a decent collection of fighters! I'd be up for this being them
and somehow find a way to get Aggron in
.

The final boss has to be either Mewtwo, Deoxys or Arceus. Or Palkia, or Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Groudon, Darkrai, Genesect...

This is an exciting round of speculation now.

Pokken sounds like a Pokemon-themed Dokken parody band.

Boy, my hopes for this game's soundtrack are now through the roof.

Also this idea is so crazy it might work. Not really sure how I'd feel about playing a fighting game on a Wii U pad, though - I have a hard enough time with regular gamepads with fighting games. Is there a stick for the Wii U yet?

Wow finally. I liked the idea of Rumble, but was always turned off by the graphics. This could be cool. Really great year for Pokemon announcements.

Hopefully mystery dungeon, that way they could talk. You could even have Pokemon run game modes like stores

I want like 30 Pokémons...
And Prof. Oak.
Yeah, Prof. Oak.
Shirtless, full of tattoos of Gyarados and Dragonite all over his body.
And I want him to be overpowered.

Oh yes.
Lol similar to how Master Roshi gets roided out when he powers up, kind of? It'd be perfect. Oak tears his lab coat off, says something about being sick of relying in kids to save the day, and sends out giant-pseudo legendaries.

NFC Characters to expand the roster. I'd buy them.

I already spent more than I want to share at Game buying Pokemon Rumble U and figures T_T

Seriously though, I'm willing enough to get a Wii U for this and Smash 4 alone, if this turns out true. A Pokemon fighting game has been a dream of mine for ages. :3

I'm up for this, and there are even several of the "roster" that I would like to play as; Throh, Hariyama, Primeape...

Though there has to be Golurk. He's an honorary Fighting type giant ghost robot.

If what most of you are thinking is true, Namco is helping with Smash, working on Tekken X Street Fighter, and working on this. That'd be wild.

If this turns out to be a Pokemon fighting game for WiiU for sure, it'll be a system seller for me lol.

I can get behind this idea.

Also, Blaziken and Lucario both have Mega forms now, maybe rather than the entire roster being Fighting Pokemon, the entire roster will be Pokemon with Mega evolutions (or Fighting Pokemon WITH Mega evolutions)? Mega Mawille and Fab Ampharos would be great characters.

After Pokemon x Nobunaga's Ambition and Fire Emblem x Shin Megami Tensei, sure, why the fuck not. It seems so unlike Nintendo for a Pokemon x Tekken fighter, but there's at least precedence for these crazy wtf ideas.

A Pokémon fighting game is something I never thought about but now I really want!

Yea, definitely hope that this is what it turns out to be.

I hope the fighting styles are more like an animal style instead of humanoid for the Pokemon that aren't bipedal.

Hell give me Magneton and Psyduck.

Interesting note, Pokkén has been found in the Japanese trademark database as well

ポッ拳

It was registered in 2012 by a personal name, which has become the usual in several Pokémon trademark registrations, but was published in March

For comparison, Tekken is also written in Kanji (鉄拳) rather than kana (テッケン) in official media.

Pokken could also just be a play on Pokemon Fist (ken is fist in Japanese)

Doesn't have to mean Namco involvement, but it would be awesome if it did.

day one!

gutted its not a full blown rpg... but the more i think about a pokemon fighter, the better it sounds.

needs to move faster and smoother than tekken though

It's more of a conceptual problem rather than a "Oh it has been for so long". Pokémon is an extremely social game. The developers design it as a game to take with you.

Portable Smash also is a conceptual problem though. Smaller screen makes fighters harder to see due to zoom, portable hardware makes 4p matches harder to set up. Yet that didn't stop Nintendo.

Of course, I guess this just shows that nowadays their priority is the portable line...
