Portable Smash also is a conceptual problem though. Smaller screen makes fighters harder to see due to zoom, portable hardware makes 4p matches harder to set up. Yet that didn't stop Nintendo.

Of course, I guess this just shows that nowadays their priority is the portable line...

Not quite. It has nothing to do with priority. It has to do with what the game is designed to be.

i am interested how they gonna make it
if it full fighter game like tekken

how it gonna be if you chose i fire type and your opponent chooses a grass type

The Tekken cast are Pokemon trainers and all have fighting types. Mishima Zaibatsu has been experimenting on Pokemon and create Mewtwo, the only Psychic type in the game and the cheapest and most OP fighter. He is the last boss and his trainer is Kazuya. After you beat Mewtwo in the first round, he turns into Mega Mewtwo from X & Y for the second round.

i think that the roster will feature every starter, every legendary pokèmon and a specific pokèmon of each generation, like dragonite, lucario, salamance, tyranitar and so on

Like I said, Smash wasn't designed for portables and they have to get around some conceptual limitations (in addition to hardware itself) to make it work. That didn't stop them.

i like the roster posted upthread of exclusively bipedal fighting types. its smart and would work well without too much weirdness. they could probably fit in some other popular bipedal non-fighting types, but i would want a decent sized scale. no 1.5ft pikachu against 7 foot blaziken.

OMG! I'm hyped if the game is coming out as I expected it to be.

Now I'm very curious if Pokemon Company asked Sakurai to helping them out with Pokemon Fighters/Tournament as advisor or something since Sakurai did shown up at E3 and Poke Event recently weekend.

Pokemon Fighting Game with Sakurai as their Advisor. People can't go wrong with that.

It would be so awesome if they released a main line Polemon game with a fighting game combat system. The combat in Pokemon is the only thing that keeps me from playing those games.

Bi-pedal, final evolution, fighting-type Pokémon up to Gen 5.

That's a fair note. Smash scales characters to streamlined sizes, and thankfully does so -- but I think this one should have normal sizes, despite the fact that this would limit variety. Other Pokémon could appear as assist characters (especially small ones) and bosses or stage hazards (like, say, Groudon).

Day 1. Ever since the leak from last week, my mind has raced on what if this was indeed a fighting game concept of some sort. And hey, like I said in the last thread, it may not matter if Wii U gets the likes of Street Fighter if it can get exclusives like this that you can't get anywhere else!

Make Machoke/Machamp into King, please! 8D

If this is a Fighting game, don't let cyber connect ² touch this, i want a real gameplay....

THIS.

CC2 makes great looking games, but ever since the dawn of 3D Naruto, their gameplay has suffered as a result. I'm hoping the Jojo fighter might change my opinion, but in the meanwhile? Why not just have people at Namco who know what they're doing when it comes to making great playing fighters AND has the tendency to make them look GOOD?

OMG! I'm hyped if the game is coming out as I expected it to be.

Actually, I'm hoping the opposite. Keep Sakurai away and let him continue work on Smash.

If nothing else, assuming this has an actual fighting game director on this? We'd be guaranteed something that would likely have solid gameplay, and the likelihood of something that would be detrimental to a quality game on the top end would be reduced.

I mean, it should say something when TPC and PKMN has had no problem embracing its metagame, but Sakurai and Smash have.

Aww yeah this is gonna be good. If it is a fighter game, hope the roster is good
screw balancing, put all the pokemon in!

There's a difference between not being designed for something and being designed SPECIFICALLY for something.

That's an enormous roster. Are you aware of how many legendary Pokemon there are?
yes, maybe not every legendary pokémon XD
dialga, palkia, giratina, lugia,oh-oh, mewtwo, arceus, kyurem, zekrom,Yveltal,Xerneas, deoxys.
i think that these should be enough
18 starter, the legendary pokémon listed above and the special pokémon of each gen.
a big roster XD

Only fighting types !

...and Pikachu

Tales of Pokemon

I'd buy the shit out of a Pokémon fighter. I wanna do sick air combos and have hypers and beams and fireballs flying everywhere and Blaziken needs a shoruyken.

You play as the Trainer in Pokémon games, not the Pokémon, so it makes no sense

What if... This is a mini game in the new smash bros? That all the resources that could have gone toward a single player campaign went entirely for an unlockable pokemon fighter mode (it wouldn't be Smash Bros without unlocking.

Probably not. I'm guessing a Wii U Pokemon game will be called something lame like stadium or coliseum and they trademarked this name because it'll be co-devloped by the tekken folks and the Pokemon company is protecting from a potential iOS game combining the two names to make something similar.

As long as it's not a traditional fighter I'm interested.
Me too. I always wanted a Smash Bros style Pokemon fighting game or something like that.

I don't think they would ever make a mode that's dedicated to a single franchise in Smash Bros. That's overkill lol

At the expense of a super large character count, this game could intelligently incorporate a lot of Pokemon gameplay mechanics.

Imagine you get sunlight going at a specific moment in the stage, and suddenly Blaziken's special moves do more damage.

That'd be hard to balance though. Theoretically, Pokémon battles are Pokémon battles no matter what, but when there's a one-on-one fight, things like type weaknesses can't easily be implemented.

Unless...these aren't one-on-one fights.

No, there isn't. Smash was designed specifically for the home console tv experience. Large viewing screen due to the way zoom works, local 4p competitive multiplayer without any build up aspect (unlike portable multiplayer focused titles like Pokemon itself and Monster Hunter). It gains nothing from going portable and they have to worry about problems that never existed before (so we get things like the character outlines).

The fact that we are getting that product in spite of those problems, but don't have a real Pokemon game on console shows very well where modern Nintendo's priority truly lies.

Well for one, Nintendo doesn't control the way Pokémon goes, GameFreak does.

GameFreak have specifically said countless times that they design Pokémon around being on a handheld due to the ability to take it with you to battle and trade, and that as you can't do that on a home console, the games won't be on a home console. Has nothing to do with "Oh well a portable can't fit it so let's do it on a home console" like Smash was, it is the entire concept.

Sounds Tekken influenced Pokken and all that. Take that as you will.

lets see what type of game it is hey?

Blastoise could easy be a zangief slow moving type of character that fucks you up when you get close

and if not, let me dream :)

Tekken is the vibe we are getting here. Not mobile enough, also Machamp would be zeingeif if it was like street fighter.

Blasiotise could work in a marvel like game though. He could be MODOK.

I honestly have a hard time seeing the SC and Tekken engines fitting for a Pokemon game, if only because a lot of Pokemon stuff involve firing lasers, creating energy waves, and all that shit.

Yep, no way will they leave out so many moves.

because its got 'ken' on the end doesnt mean its gonna be a strict tekken clone

They could be combo'd into, it could also be a flashier version of teken. Kind of like what Mahvel is in comparison to street fighter.

And that's honestly what I'm hoping for. Rather than something strictly traditional, you'd still have a game where the Type Advantages, Field Advantages, Heights/Weights and maybe even Abilities from the mainstream games have an impact.

So, even in the case that you are a beginner player that can't string together long combos, you still could be a force to reckon with if you still have a grasp of PKMN strategies and tactics.

It's for this reason that I'm hoping that some characters like Charizard, Blastoise and Mewtwo may still get invited to this party. Not only because they're recognizable faces and have access to Fighting-Type moves, but because they'd play right into this very aspect of variety.
