I want this so badly but there's no way I can get one right now. Saw this at a Lego store today (I didn't even know there were Lego stores) next to an original series Death Star (from RotJ, even), Vader's Tie Advanced, a Jawa Sandcrawler, and of course the Imperial Star Destroyer. I've never seen any of these in a regular store before and it was pretty cool to see how I could waste close to $1,500 in one day. Well, if I had $1,500 to waste and the space to put the models, that is.

Sorry to be hater... but the Millenium Falcon is one of the ugliest and most overrated Sci-Fi ships in existence.

Wish LEGO would do this for shit I care about.

how about Batman?

wtf at the price???
LEGOs are expensive.

This thing is pretty damn amazing, though. I love how it's properly scaled for the mini figs. Seems like an odd omission that it doesn't come with the two droids, though.

I sprung for the Ultimate Collector's Star Destroyer ($300) when it came out a few years ago, so I can't really justify spending another $500 on this (plus, I don't have any room for it).

The Star Destroyer took me about 15 hours to build, and it's only about 3100 pieces. Considering that this has about 2000 more pieces, I can only imagine how much longer this will take to put together. For the record, the Star Destroyer's instruction booklet is 226 pages. The book's dimensions are 16.5" long and 12" tall. So I'm guessing the Falcon's book will be huge.

:O Holy shit! Is it bound like a book?

How is Lego pronounced? League-o or Leg-o? I always said it like the former (Lee-go), but I heard some people say it the other way and now I'm embarrassed to say it cause I don't know which is the right way :(

Indeed it is. Actually, when I first opened the box, the weight of the instruction book had begun pulling the pages free of the glue that binded the spine. I called up LEGO customer service, and they gladly sent me another instruction book.

wow. I wanted one of those but, again, I don't have the space anymore since my son was born. His room used to be where I stored my Legos. They're currently all in bins until we move to a bigger house.

LEGO is never plural.
LEGO Sets or LEGO Bricks are probably what you mean to say.
LEGO Bricks cost about a dime a piece, so a 5,000 piece set for $499.99 is exactly what should be expected.
LEGO rhymes with the waffle EGGO.

I want this so bad.

Over 5,000 pieces? It will take a Jedi to build that shit. Ridiculous, especially with so many parts looking the same.

The LEGO Group's name has become so synonymous with its flagship toy that many refer to the bricks themselves (collectively) as "Lego" or "Legos" (the latter term being common in US English, but rarely used in British English), although the Lego Group considers such uses to be trademark dilution. Lego catalogues in the 1970s and 1980s contained a note that read:

"The word LEGO® is a brand name and is very special to all of us in the LEGO Group Companies. We would sincerely like your help in keeping it special. Please always refer to our bricks as 'LEGO Bricks or Toys' and not 'LEGOS.' By doing so, you will be helping to protect and preserve a brand of which we are very proud and that stands for quality the world over. Thank you! Susan Williams, Consumer Services."

The official Lego website is http://www.lego.com. For many years, visitors to http://www.legos.com (also registered to the Lego Group) have received notices similar to the one pictured, and were intentionally redirected to the official website, to further protect the brand.

LEGO is officially written in all uppercase letters. The company asserts that to protect its brand name, the word Lego must always be used as an adjective, as in "LEGO set", "LEGO products", "LEGO universe", and so forth. Nevertheless, such corporate admonitions are frequently ignored and the word Lego is commonly used not only as a noun to refer to Lego bricks, but also as a generic term referring to any kind of interlocking toy brick.
My apologies, Mr. Intellectual-Property-Man. :)

What's the point, really?

If I were crazy enough to spend $499 on a Millennium Falcon model, I'd want it to look like the authentic movie model down to the last little detail, not something that looks like it was made out of...LEGOs.

Building it is half the fun. If I had a ridiculous amount of money to spend, I have no doubt that I'd buy it.

lego is fun because you build it yourself and you feel really proud of yourself when you're done, but it's not super hard and touchy like other models.

Heh, my wife bought me that Batmobile. She was my g/f at the time. She also got me this:

Also was my g/f at the time. Both were Christmas presents but not given the same year. You can probably understand why I married her =) Actually that was just icing on the cake. She bought me a Sega Saturn on our first anniversary. I knew then she was a keeper =)

They have a legal obligation to defend their trademark, otherwise Megabloks could theoretically use it.

Same with "Google" as a verb or Q-Tips and Band-Aids for cotton swabs and adhesive bandages.

I want one so bad but I have no where to store it until I graduate.

I bought the first Millenium Falcon they released for like $100 bucks. I remember having to wait months for Amazon.com to get it back then (I had a gift certificate from Christmas). It took me 2 hours to build. I imagine this thing would be even more crazy to build than the Boeing 777 Dreamliner set. That thing took my dad and I several hours this past Christmas.

I bought the first Millenium Falcon, realized it was discontinued quickly and subsequently worth money, and sold it for a tidy sum of something like $400. I couldn't believe it was worth that much.

Cool set though.

Shit, I had no idea. Mine is collecting dust in my parent's house. I was trying to collect all the Classic Star Wars sets but didn't have the money and by the time I did they discontinued or changed a bunch of them.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
$499? Jesus fuck, I'll buy my own millennium falcon at that price.
