Media Create Sales: Week 34, 2013 (Aug 19 - Aug 25)

I wish I had inside info on Nintendo like you seem to. :(

I don't, but come on at this point it's pretty clear that Nintendo went into the WiiU like a headless chicken. If they had anything to announce, they would've done so by now. This delusion about secret lineups and what not was valid last year pre launch, but it's become more than obvious that they have nothing.

i would take the prediction down a notch (several, as a matter of fact), no way B2 sells around 500k on the WiiU.

100k is more likely.

Like I keep saying. It's time for Nintendo push the emergency button, gives us a full blown Pokemon RPG game on consoles. Only thing that could save the WiiU.

nintendo kinda needs to get with the times about how the machine works. interviews, magazine covers, commercials, ellen page.

although to be fair their walled city internet-only approach is probably weirdly ahead of its time, especially for them. it would probably make a lot more sense in about 10 years.

It's bloody insane how NCL handle their IP promotions. Sakurai and the Pokemon Co. do a great job with theirs.

Why would Nintendo cancel Wii U games? If they start canceling Wii U games, with the lack of 3rd party titles, they might as well abandon the system officially. They wouldn't be able to replace games that are in production with anything timely. FE x SMT was announced back in January. Even if they only really started serious development by that time, it'd still mean just throwing away resources now.

Besides, I don't see how that's comparable at all. FE is a established Nintendo franchise, and the last one increased the series' popularity. Meanwhile, SMT has had several portable entries for Nintendo systems in the recent past, at least. It's completely different from a new IP like W101, or games that have never landed in Nintendo's systems before.

Or moving it to 3DS. FE as a series was going to end if it kept up the bad sales streak and now we are to believe they would be happy with a game with much higher production values doing much less? The Wiiu is nothing like the 3DS and shouldn't even be compared. Hell the 1 million wiiu owners seem to be mostly doing nothing with it.

Let's say they do this. Right now. Today. Do you think the WiiU will be in any position to be "saved" by the time said game is completed? Assuming it enters pre-production right this very moment.

This was predictable since E3 2012. The whole situation. Wiiu is dead, mistake after mistake made each month. Iwata and most higher ups need to be replaced.
But there will always be a group thats gonna tell you '' Wait for next Direct/Conference/E3...''

Yes. Because people can plug in their Wii U's on the train and play that way.

It will happen in unprecedented quantities.

btw this is sad because the w101 is good and platinum games on Nintendo consoles often underperforms.
Are there any chances to see it on other platforms?

So what are the chances for TW101 selling 100k ltd at this point? Nigh impossible? Is there any chance that the sales will crawl up as the system inevitably increases its install base over the next year?

Expected like 10k so this is pretty bad. Sad to see, cos it's a truly great game :(

Won't be any better in EU either, I'd imagine.

Vita numbers and Won 101 numbers are making realize just how bad of a situation these two systems are in- won 101 will def do better overseas.

It doesn't seem like a game Targeted towards Japan.

Isn't this like the biggest bomb of all time?

Has there ever been a 1st party exclusive thats been hyped by the fans, pushed by the platform holder and then goes on to sell 5k? Not only that but seeing a reduction in system sales?

Wow. Wow. Wow.

Call me crazy, but the Vita in Japan is an evergreen title or two away from being a real success story in Japan. I am not sure what that game will be or if it will ever get it, but it is primed for it for sure. The install base is nearly 2 million in Japan and they are an active buying group, that has proven time and time again to defy expectations. Maybe Freedom Wars could become that title. When is it's release date?

I'd argue that pre launch the possibility was there, but ever since E3 it's clear as day. If they want to drag dead weight around, it will be on them, but at this point it's quite clear that the WiiU was a colossal management failure from the get go.

I'll be along for the ride, but I expect it to end in a year at most.

He did. Most of the board actually work for him now. I'm not sure where this idea that a bunch of old guys are pushing Iwata to manage Nintendo badly came from, but it's inaccurate. Here are the current members of the board:

President (Representative Director)
Satoru Iwata

Senior Managing Directors (Representative Directors)
Genyo Takeda
Shigeru Miyamoto

Managing Director
Tatsumi Kimishima

Directors
Kaoru Takemura
Shigeyuki Takahashi
Satoshi Yamato
Susumu Tanaka
Shinya Takahashi
Hirokazu Shinshi

Auditors
Minoru Ueda
Ken Toyoda

My bad. But still, I wouldn't have Miyamoto on there. Get him back to making games.

I am still for waiting on declaring the WII U dead , until the big hits for this year and Smash and Mario Kart have been released, there is a lot of hyperbole in this thread ( comparing last of us to Wonderful ? The Fuck).

I hope W101 sells better internationaly, but it wont be the end of the System if it Fails . It never was the saviour either, its just a really niche game.

Because logic would dictate that Nintendo has nothing beyond what is announced in development?

I know there are a large percentage of people just waiting with bated breath for Nintendo to fail, but use logic. Nintendo has stuff in development, some we know about, and some we don't. All companies have stuff in development we don't know about.

Most of their stuff announced is due out before the end of this year, which means that there must be stuff in development for next year and the year after. You assuming they "have nothing" is fanboy goosery of the highest order.

Edit: To be fair though, if any of these titles help Nintendo this year, we don't know yet. As it stands, it's a HUGE uphill battle for Nintendo.

So is it all banking on Zelda, Donkey and Mario to save this Christmas? Mario's really the one only that could create big numbers, imo. It some ways I hope this particular Mario doesn't do particularly well so Nintendo doesn't rely so much on one mascot.

they're not going to kill the wii u

they're not going to cancel bayonetta

don't be silly

they're going to grind it out for another excruciating 3 years at least, and it will be the worst selling nintendo console of all time.

Nothings going to save the WiiU now.

It's the wrong Mario.

Even if these games sell reasonably well, they won't suffice to save the WiiU. There is simply no demand for it and Nintendo is doing it's best to keep it that way. At this point Nintendo would have to completely change everything about their approach to the WiiU to try and pull it out of the gutter, or just scrap it, and start anew.

And yeah, comparing the Last of Us to W101 even if just for new IPs is downright moronic, was there honestly someone in here that went there?

I expected Wonderful 101 to bombed, but not this hard, not like this. Its make kinda sadto see it because I have genuine interest for it :(

I wasn't comparing TLoU to TW101. I was pointing out that 'new IPs don't sell' is bullshit.
