More of Cameron's comments on the film.

What is interesting is the human dimension. Alfonso and Sandra working together to create an absolutely seamless portrayal of a woman fighting for her life in zero gravity.”

“She’s the one that had to take on this unbelievable challenge to perform it. (It was) probably no less demanding than a Cirque du Soleil performer, from what I can see … There’s an art to that, to creating moments that seem spontaneous but are very highly rehearsed and choreographed. Not too many people can do it. … I think it’s really important for people in Hollywood to understand what was accomplished here.”

“I read the script, and I thought it was tremendously challenging to shoot with a high degree of veracity to get the real look of zero gravity … I’m sure Alfonso had a real uphill battle with the studio, with everyone involved, to get it the way it needed to look. But he knew in his mind how it needed to look, and he went after it.”

Cameron seals the deal. That is high praise from the most reputable source concerning Sci-fi movies.

I wasn't expecting such a positive response! I'm definitely hyped now. I only remember Sandra Bullock from Lois & Clark, is she really that bad?

Nah, shes a babe. Go watch speed and forces of nature. She was great in "the core" as well.

... :P

Surprised this movie is getting good reviews. The trailers make it look incredibly stupid. Oh look im gonna fall to earth for 2 hours. Will probably watch when it goes to dvd though.

I really hope the Imax theater (the true one near me, not the fake AMC knockoff near me) is going to be showing this. I will be super disappointed if it isn't.

Wow. This is quite possibly the greatest looking film I have seen in a very long time. Everything from the CGI, the cinematography, and music combine for an awe-inspiring trip into space. I understand that the script is a little thin but I still thought it was excellent for what was there and the constant small talk between characters made up for lack of character development and dialogue. The CGI deserves a special mention since it is certainly the most impressive I have ever seen.

I'm torn in terms of giving it a 4.5 or a 5 but for now, I'll give it a 4.5. I need to see if it holds up on repeat viewings

Seeing this tonight (in place of Don Jon: Gofobo screwed up my reservation on that, so I'm seeing this instead of going to that with my friends :(), advanced screening. I guess I'll post my thoughts in here after? Naturally spoilered to all hell.

I want to see this, but the latest trailer really ate into my hype. The character dialog/tension and flailing about didn't seem very reasonable for a person that is likely very heavily trained and it undermined my sense of tension. Context and build up probably matter, but if this is just a roller coaster ride in simulated space, then I am probably looking for a different experience.

Why the hell would any serious filmmaker cast Sandra Bullock in their movie unless they're making a romantic comedy or appealing to the Oprah audience?

she's in like a zillion movies where she plays the same slightly eccentric love interest who has a quirky yet warm personality and plays to the same exact romantic comedy tropes as if she is running on treadmill

and even when she's trying to act seriously, she has a fairly limited range, with a voice that is sometimes completely impossible to take seriously because of the strange way she emphasizes some words like they all have a cherry on top

i mean I'd say it's fair to be skeptical about her body of work at this point. But Gravity seems like it will be great despite that so i'm giving it a shot

Who knows, we might get lucky and she'll just float off into space never to be seen again or will burn up in the Earth's atmosphere.

Sex.

Ok...just got back from the screening. It was a Philadelphia Film Society only one (you have to pay like 500$+ a year to get a ticket for this), so I think some were a little miffed I got in for free through legwork and such. But a lot of them were quite nice.

So...non spoiler thoughts.

This is a space movie.

And that's it. Spoiler thoughts incoming. SPOILER THOUGHTS FOR GRAVITY DO NOT TOUCH THE WHITEOUT WITH THE CLICKBOX (but kept vague if you want general impressions)

Ok I lied. This is a survivor movie. A HEAVY survivor movie. This is the definition of getting put through the space ringer.

Naturally, I expected Cuaron long takes. -Nothing- like this. The opening shot and some of the other takes are some of the most breathtaking things I've seen in a theater. We saw it in Digital 3D.

If your ass can see this in IMAX 3D, you do it without a second thought. I don't know if I could see this movie in 2D, considering some of the stuff Cuaron throws at the audience here.

And I don't know how this will translate to Blu-Ray and such. I sat up 2nd row because of the availability of seats, and I don't think I'd watch it any other way.

The above doesn't spoil the plot at all beyond the trailers & general news. I can writeup plot thoughts if requested, but I'd prefer to wait until the movie comes out (or at least til we're closer).

TLDR; This is the space movie you deserve. Go see it, and in IMAX 3D.

Can anyone who has seen the movie tell me if the movie is as claustrophobic as the trailers? I really want to watch this movie, but I'm not sure if I can handle it for the entire length.

Managed to get two tickets for my parents to an early screening but no luck so far for me :(

Kidnap father, steal his identity. It's the best solution

In the Philly area, there are a ton of these; today was just the first one. If your area is like mine, there's probably plenty. I only got mine today by accident.

This could get spoilery so I'll tag it: GRAVITY SPOILERS
Yes. It's honestly a terrifying movie in this regard.

I've kept my eyes peeled for NYC tickets, but nothing so far. I guess I just need to be a little more patient.

Huh. I remember seeing the preview before Man of Steel and it just looked like "Oh No I Can't Quite Grab Onto That Object Now I'm Floating Into Space: The Movie."

A good outtake would have Bullock rotating away, uncontrolled, into space only to hear Clooney pull a Tim Allen/Buzz Lightyear(Toy Story) impersonation and say "To infinty and beyond!"

My local history museum has a monster IMAX screen but it looks like thus far they don't have plans to show it. Nooooooo! I really hope I don't have to do LieMAX at AMC.
