This should be a thread about just RGB. Everything after the initial 151 was a joke. Yellow was also disgusting. IT'S NOT EVEN A PRIMARY COLOUR!

XY is the best non-remake since Red because Charmander is obtainable in it.

I had really good times in Gold and Blue. I love this series so much.

My most memorable moment is when my friend had a GS Ball and we were trying to figure out what to do with it in Crystal. We still to this day don't know how got it.

I owned almost all of the games in the OP. I watched the first few seasons religiously and even owned quite a few trading cards. I also had a ton of different types of stickers, books, little figurines, what have you.

Needless to say, I think back to those days with a smile.

IIRC, you go to that shrine in that forest near Azlea City and put the GS Ball in there. You fight Celebi

This is going completely by memory, so i might be completely wrong about this. I do believe this was a Japan only event too, or was also in the US?

I wonder...

Is it possible to transfer a RBY Pokemon to GSC with a chance of one of them being a shiny?

It certainly is.
There's even a glitch that involves using a shiny traded from GSC(Gyarados will do) with mimic to battle a wild Ditto to obtain a Ditto that is shiny in GSC.

This has me hyped for X/Y more than anything. I haven't even bought a Pokemon game since Red/Blue, but I feel myself wanting to pull the trigger on a 2DS and X just because of dat Red.
You should do it. The games are basically the same each generation from a surface and single-player structure level. But after taking a 5+ year break going back felt so great and nostalgic. Highly recommend grabbing it at launch and playing along.

Pokemon Gold

I remember using the trade glitch to get multiple master balls because of those gerbils!
I also didn't used to care about stats, those were simpler times :(

In speaking of glitches, I've managed to capture 2 Mews with some glitches in Blue Version. I have no idea what I want to do with the 2nd Mew, I caught it for fun. lol

I remember a rumor that "Black" version would be coming out after Gold/Silver, and featured a playable Rocket Grunt, working his way up to become the big boss and seek world domination.

I kinda wish it were true.

I've always wanted to see what a Pokemon game would be like if you've played as the villains. Would be a really cool concept.

Just glanced at the OP, why does it look like an OT?

Yea, but we were little so we had no clue. According to Bulbapedia it is a Japan only event, so as to how it was in his key items list, I have no idea.

Well you were sort of a villain in the beginning of Pokemon Coloseeum

The main character was too edge-y for my tastes. But his design was good.

Man, that OP sums up a lot of my childhood. I remember spending an entire summer with my friend just playing hours and hours and hours of Pokemon Gold/Silver. Our moms would make us go outside to play but as soon as we'd get back inside we'd start playing again. Sometimes we'd go outside and play Pokemon on top of his shed, so we were technically playing outside. Ahh... good times, man. I think I had almost 300 hours logged on Pokemon Silver alone.

Superb thread.

I had never seen this piece before. It reminds me why I loved these games back then. I haven't been able to really get into Pokemon since the RBY days, but seeing this piece of artwork, which is new to me but actually still old, and still getting excited again for the game because of it, tells me that there was something special about the original games that's missing from the new ones. I don't know exactly what it is, though.

This is the first time I've seen this artwork. To think I've seen them all... there is a lot of random old official artwork of these. I like it!

Is the anime worth watching past season 1/2? Those are the only episodes I've seen.

I've heard the Diamond/Pearl season is quite good if you skip the filler (there's something like a year's worth of filler in between the 7th and 8th badges alone).
I'm pretty sure one of the PokéGAFer's compiled a list of non-filler episodes somewhere.

Maybe give one or two of the movies a watch? The Lucario one was pretty good IIRC.

While Sugimori's art style for Pokemon right now is fantastic, I absolutely love the art he used for the original 151. I don't think either style is better or worse than the other, but I don't think anything will ever compare to his original works.

Gary didn't become a wuss, he just grew up. He's on the road to becoming a badass and well respected professor like his grandfather while Ash is spending an eternity being 10 and losing leagues.

When I first got Pokemon Red it was an amazing experience for all of five minutes, after which my older brother took the gameboy away and said he should get to play it first. And since there's only one save, I was permanently out of luck. He wasn't particularly cruel about it, I just didn't have much of a choice. Then my birthday comes along soon after, where my mom gets me a copy of Pokemon Blue plus an awesome new purple-shaded translucent Gameboy Color. And the real experience began.

My brother was stuck with black and white.

This thread T_T So many memories of Gen I and II. I still remember when I got into Pokemon when I was between 5th and 6th grade. Saw people playing Red/Blue at YMCA during summer camp. I then bought a GameBoy Color and Red (I wanted Blue but Blue seemed to be the more popular version and was sold out) at Toys R Us. Man, Pokemon back then seemed to be unstoppable...merchandising up the ass EVERYWHERE. I better stop now before I end up writing an entire essay about how I grew up with Pokemon lol.

Just finished beating Pokémon Yellow by taking down Blue, it was an epic battle to end all battle.

My brave Yellow team;

Char-Charizard
Pika-Pikachu
Sand-Sandslash
Saur-Venusaur
Zeni-Blastoise
Vee-Eevee

Now to play the waiting game for Pokémon X and Y.

What's with the 4 letter names? Are you playing the Japanese version?

The last Pokemon game I really played was Red/Blue when they first came out. I was hooked, but not having money or a Gameboy Color kept me from getting Gold/Silver.

When HG/SS came out on DS, I tried them, but found I couldn't get into it like I once did.

My fiancee is a Pokemon fan, and I bought her a Pikachu 3DS XL. I'm really hoping I can get into X/Y like I used to.

Playing Pokémon Blue at lunch in high school, waking up in the morning to watch the show with my sister... The 90s were a fun time.

Oh, and I have every single game in the OP aside from Red and Silver (went with Blue and Gold. My sister had Red though).
