I've about given up hope on Metroid Dread, and I'd do the same for Matsuno if it weren't for that EGM rumor.

I`d have given up if Retro hadn`t been asses and said the whole PROJECT DREAD APPROACHING COMPLETION thing.

actually - the PS2 versions never had voice chat - so it was all text base communication.

Due to the fact that it was so cumbersome, no one used it in game and this forced you into planning BEFORE you went into the game.

At least, in my experience it did.

I wrote a lengthy review regarding the series a while back - the main crux of it was that the faults of monster hunter (the cumbersome controls, the lack of voice chat and inefficient ingame communication) all , strangely, added to the gameplay and it may well be that the addition of voice chat might make the game a bit less tactical / pre planned.
This isn't Outbreak online where you HAVE to plan out your gameplan in the game lobby before the game starts because there was no text chat during ingame. I've played plenty of Online GAF clan games of Monster Hunter back when it was released and we always used the keyboard for chat even in the worst times. Clicking L3 was the signal that someone found the wyvern in there zone so that everyone can converge on that location or that someone was low on health so I had to heal them (I was the Gunner with healing bullets). I know you played the game online DCharlie (I read your game of the year review on your ol' site). But I think your comment that no one used it ingame is a bit stretch since it was very crucial to team success. The PSP version don't have online play, since the focus here was to get 4 people in the same room to just talk for communication.

Cons:
- Matsuno is still dead
I'm hoping he isn't.. but I'm thinking that maybe Nintendo were set to unveil up to their Q1 '08 releases only. If indeed he is working on something for Nintendo it won't be shown till next year.

Well if you check the Wii seciton theres no MH3. So i wouldnt put much stock into that.
I'll keep my stock actually until I hear something otherwise. I didn't see MH3 exclusive announcement, I only saw that it's going to Wii.

Red Steel 2 debut (yay...)

Hopefully, it won't be under NDA, but that wouldn't surprise me.
NOA has a conference for N.A tomorrow??

WiiWare sounds really impressive. It's inexcusable that it's taken them this long to get it together, but a Final Fantasy game on launch? Bomberman? DS download station channel? Sold. To have Square Enix and Bandai Namco on board from day one is a pretty big win.

Monster Hunter 3 pretty much seals the deal for Nintendo in Japan. That they're essentially handing DS support over to third parties is a little concerning, but on the upside I guess this means the vast majority of Nintendo's development resources are being focused on Wii.

Sonic in Smash Bros. is hardly a surprise, but to have it finally confirmed is nice. I think Snake is a much cooler addition personally.

Wii Fit is going to be a monster. In terms of sales, with this, Super Mario Galaxy, Monster Hunter 3, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Wii Music, WiiWare and Mario Kart Wii all in the not too distant future it's kind of hard to argue that Nintendo will have any serious competition in Japan this generation.

i have a wii and ps3. i shouldn't get replies like "bitter tears LOLOLOL" when one of my favorite games might be getting downgraded from the potential next-gen game that was announced early on. i don't mind a wii version but i do mind if it's wii exclusive -- if it's not a big enough improvement over the PSP game, i have no reason to get it.

I'm not defending the bitter tears comments but for people who don't have a PS3, a Wii version is not a step back for the series and would probably be a step forward and it wouldn't be the worst thing ever as some people were saying in previous posts.

I actually share your opinion and I wish for all games to have a HD version but for anyone without a PS3, excitement does not mean sales mongering.

Pretty nice guy (apart from the blue shadows thing...)
Wow @ MH3 being a port of MH2. That screen is 100% MH2 assets, people. That's exactly how it looks on PS2. Dreams of an MT Framework next-gen MH3, shattered by market realities. Should be fun playing with Friend Codes.

I guess it's win/win for Capcom: They had to make an MHP3, now they can simply spread assets across Wii and PSP. Two, two, two games for the price of one.

Kind of sucks, I was hoping a proper next gen Monster Hunter would make me join the craze, but I guess I'll just wait on the sideline for now.

i don't have a problem with people celebrating a wii version. i just have a problem with the people harrasing others with "bitter tears" comments.

Nintendo fans can take comfort that regardless of the quality of the game the loss of Monster Hunter 3 is a critical blow to Sony...

The thing about Sonic in Smash, I know a lot of people don't care but if he wasn't in the game it would have just been one of those 'what could have been' situations when playing the game... THIS DECEMBER STILL IN ENGLISH PLEASE NINTENDO.

;(

Information about Retro's next title? Haven't they been working on it along side Metroid Prime 3? It should be at a stage that they could release some information about it and maybe screenshots.

What the hell?
Maybe they can take comfort in a franchise they like coming to their system.
