EA really went above and beyond with FIFA on the Vita this year

I know, that's what I meant with that. Having Fifa on the Vita being the fake smile for the camera, while crying inside that such a shoddy POS is worth more to market relevance than brilliant stuff like Killzone Mercenaries.

Vita and WiiU really lend themselves perfectly for washed up celebrity analogies lol.
Why did you say that? Why?!

Now I'm crying on the outside.

3DS gets the same treatment btw. It sucks balls for sports fans.

It should be a £10 upgrade.

Its pure bullshit what EA does. Same goes for the console version. FIFA 14 is indeed FIFA 12 reskinned, its a legacy from FIFA 12. Its a shame that PES wont come to Vita but PSP...
Football games this year suck so much... PES14 was perfect in the demo but Konami tweaked the fretail version into a awkward mess. And EA is calling a bumb in resolution for next gen system a new engine... I'm done with football games this year.

Is the core game itself any good? I've seen physical copies of 13 on sale for $20 or less. I'm not huge into soccer like I used to be but FIFA games have always been fun enough. I don't know that I'd care that rosters aren't up to date.

Took me a while to figure out what I'm supposed to be looking at here. That block of info needs to be larger, if not on the front of the box in my opinion.

The core game is very good. I made a post about it somewhere in this thread but I'm on a phone right now so finding it and linking it is too much work.

I don't think the screenshots tell us anything we didn't know, do they? But hey, the mods don't have a problem with the fourth thread (on the Vita version alone), so obviously it's okay.

Can't even blame you after spending $40 on this shit, not to mention EA deserves to get called out on this more often.

I didn't spend $40 on it, I gamefly'd it because there isn't dick for releases for a couple weeks. Which i mentioned in like the third post. But I can't blame you for not reading it since you are drowning in a sea of FIFA vita threads. It seems like there are atleast a few people left who are seeing this for the first time. You should let the mods know how to do their job though, they love that.

What's the big deal with rosters? I mean, come on guys, not only are you already playing a digital sport simulation game (which, in my opinion should be played outside with a ball and a couple of lads) but you really need actual rosters? Really? Buy Fifa 13 and play it till they announce some new game which offers more than cosmetic changes.

It's absurd but in a lot of cases not too far removed from what actually happens even with sports games that do receive actual gameplay updates.

There must be some economies i'm missing in this judgement, but it sure seems like publishers and fans alike would be better off if they released roster packs yearly (and had a means to advertise this at retail), for a few years, and then hit with a substantial update every couple of years.

Part of it must be because of the used games issue - everyone i know who buys sports games trades in their previous versions to negate the new cost. But then again, those old versions are notorious for having the lowest trade in value precisely because of that.

I bought the original vita fifa last year on clearance at Target for $4.50. The game's solid, but I am sooo glad I haven't bothered springing for 13/14. The updated kits I can live without, but is it possible to download a user-created current roster update on the '12 version?

I don't know about the Vita version specifically, but you should be able to go into options -> squad settings -> transfers and switch players around. If I remember right, your "score" from manager mode won't be recognised and and you can't play competitive online modes with them.

It can be time consuming, but you could just make the switches you actually care about. As a kid, I use to sit with a list from Wikipedia making all the changes since we couldn't afford to buy it every year.

I should still do this.

And knowing Nintendo, still won't be as powerful as a Vita.

Considering the 3DS is more powerful than the PSP (and about as powerful as the Wii), I'd guess the next Nintendo handheld will also be more powerful than the PSV and about the level of the Wii U - which would actually be rather nice. PS Vita's graphics are really amazing if the console is used properly and I have a feeling the hardware is not being really pushed by anyone but Sony (Uncharted, Killzone).

I'm wondering, for those legacy versions, they will have to do new player models, won't they? They could probably get away with reusing the old models for players who already played last year (though over the years that would be strange), for new players, they will have to use new models though, don't they? Can those models keep up with the old ones quality wise?

Moreover, as someone with three versions of Rayman Legends, I'm surprised someone would buy a roster update for a game he already has for full price. Isn't this the same as if I were to buy another copy of Rayman Legends, because it has some new costumes for Rayman (but is identical to one of the versions I already have otherwise)?

As someone who plays FIFA on the VITA nearly every night, I am kind of thrilled I don't need to buy a new version. Luckily I don't care about the rosters.

Rosters are pretty important for sports titles. They're not comparable to costumes in Rayman. Rosters can change drastically between seasons and they can make quite a difference. As a fan of a club, usually you want to have your actual, current roster, not the one from a year ago.

Ok, the analogy was probably a bit weak, is it comprabale to buying Doki Doki Panic (the game the western Super Mario Bros. 2 was made from by exchanging the models) and then later buying Super Mario Bros. 2 (western version) for full price, because you are a Mario-fan? Or is there a gameplay relevance to the rosters of the clubs (changes in balancing?)?

It's disgusting that they even charge for roster updates.

This is why Valve will always have my business and respect. They gave out huge free game-changing updates to Team Fortress 2 for years, when they could have instead re-released it a half dozen times.

The crappy "roster updates" EA does should be handed out for free. Hell, many of the "engine improvements" year to year are so minimal that they should be patched in as well instead of charging full price every year. Get more people interested in your game and retain long time customers and build some loyalty. Same shit goes to Capcom, what they did with MvC and its re-releases was horrible. I'll never understand how people are okay with buying the same game over and over again like that.

Well, they are completely honest about it, and they are free to charge whatever they want.
As long as people buy it every year, why wouldn't they take some free money?

Classic monopolist behaviour. Blame FIFA, for putting up with this shit, or for not contractually prohibiting this behaviour.

why would they invest man hours and money on console with a very small userbase? admitedly it shouldnt be full price, but until vita starts selling lots of copies, get used to it

I am being quite honest when I say that I know a lot of people that are now looking at the games market with the same distrust as they do when they enter the facilities of a shady care salesman etc.

It's just a scammers market, and EA is leading the charge.

No. 360, PS3 and PC all have a new game, just the same engine as the last few years.

Ah, so its like:

PS2/3DS/Vita/Wii: Literal copypaste
PS3/360/PC: Same engine some changes
XB1/PS4: New engine lots of changes

Why didn't they put the new engine on PC it can't be because of power, lol

Not the slightest, re-releasing games every year with minimal changes, trying to get paid DLC for just about everything etc. They are very much trying to scam money from people, and EA is most definitely the company doing it more than anyone else.

The PC really isn't a priority for them. They even took their sweet time to get the PC versions running on the current-gen engine.

PS4 and XBO versions are the same as the current gen ones, just with some fancy effects such as 3D crowds. Gamekeepers is virtually identical (minor things like three people going for the same ball, nothing much besides that).

Anyway, EA, go fuck yourself.

havent they done this on 3ds for years? and thank you famous mortimer for delving into these waters, as i refuse

i love that it still has a 3.5 star rating. sheep.

watch your tongue heathen, thats the architect of the rebellion youre talking to

thread whining, back seat modding, not reading the op, hat trick!

Haha. I am actually okay with this!

They've admitted that it's nothing more than a roster update on the package and if people are going to pay the FULL price for it anyway, why the hell not?

Remember that there will be new owners (and old) buying it that haven't played the last versions. In isolation, it is a decent handheld football game. You can't expect people to take a stand against business practices that they don't even know exist.

true, i hadnt considered the game might be 3.5 star game in a vaccum, but when i couple this slight, with the fact that ive preferred Konami soccer for years, i find am lacking sympathy for the sheep

Lol you prefer Pro Evo. By the way Pro Evo doesn't even get a Vita release at all. They're not exactly any better on the Vita front.

No, ea said it is because the people who play FIFA on PC don't have very good spec computers. I'm betting that is mostly bs and ea are just lazy tbh.

This thread did make me want to buy a fifa game for my vita. Did 13 have any actual gameplay improvements over the original vita title or was it copy paste too?

im sure konami could have found a shovel somewhere in their offices to scoop some crap on the vita,

i think the fact they didnt make it, is a sign among other things, that they couldnt allocate resources,

Ea said who needs resources when you have all these new kits?!

excellent question, is there a fifa 12 thats basically the same?
