I need to play the first two games to see what all this hype is all about.
High chances are that you may not find them special in this day and age.

I finished the original half life 1.6 times, and found out that I hate it going back through it in Black Mesa. HL2 and their episodes are fun though.

HL3 is not going to be SteamOS exclusive. It's absurd to even suggest.

The whole point of SteamOS is to provide more options, not force gamers to install a new OS.

At the same time it's more absurd for Valve to not use HL3 to boost SteamOS user base in some way. At this point install base is much more important than HL3 sales.

I am not as hype as I expected to be.
I think that my hype for HL3 was vented in all the threads through years - now, that we've know that people are working on it, I just say. Okay, I am really glad.

Why the long case?
It is likely that HL3 will have something to do with the new machines, but it would never be an exclusive.

That would be some Twilight Zone shit.

Oh man today was just one of those days...

Accurate gif except it needs GTA Online and BF 4 beta in there.

(regardless of their respective shoddiness, the hype was strong with both.)

I'm surprised that people actually thought that they weren't working on the game in some form. It's nice to know that it's in production and not still in concept stage.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Left 4 Dead 3 will still come first.

What are the odds of this using Source 2? If development started way way back i imagine it would just be using Source.

If we assume 100% is formal confirmation and anything less an assumption, 99.9%. Source 2 is undoubtedly a fork of Source, just as Source was itself a fork of GoldSrc -- there's little technical difficulty in carrying over whatever work was created using the Source SDK. Dota 2 is likely Source's last hurrah.

He did to work on his own small game projects, but bear in mind that there's little technical difficulty in taking him on to do HL3's music (assuming he's interested). He's probably one of the few original team members that doesn't need a computer and a desk at Valve to still produce content.

Yeah, as a composer his physical presence isn't necessary. I do hope Valve contracts him for HL3's soundtrack as it wouldn't be quite the same without his involvement.

As long as i get a new counter strike with it :D

I don't see a repeat of HL2/CS:S happening due to Valve only recently paying particular attention to GO as an e-sports title.

Seems likely that they are planning a consecutive release schedule for all the "3" games. Probably L4D3 first, then 6 months later HL3, then 6 months later Portal 3.

I don't think there'll be another Portal sequel. F-STOP is undoubtedly going to be released at some point, but despite its beginnings as Portal 2 (albeit a prequel despite the "2"), I think it'll instead be a new game set within the ApSci universe -- Valve had a big "duh" moment when it began playtesting the F-STOP flavour of Portal 2 and people found themselves wondering where the portals, as well as Chell and GLaDOS, were.

Actually, SteamOS is the endgame of Steam.

SteamOS is one part of a multi-headed strategy for preserving and promoting the Steam storefront. Valve doesn't really care if people are using SteamOS or Ubuntu or OSX or some enthusiast version of Windows that MS continues to publish (just like Google actually doesn't care that much what mobile OS peple use, as long as they search on Google and look at Adwords.) The point is to serve as a hedge, not as an end in itself.

They're passed the problem of Steam adoption, that matter was practically settled when HL2 hit. Valve's new goal is getting Steam in the living room, and they need SteamOS to do it.

Getting Steam in the Living room is just about making sure people keep buying on Steam. Valve has no big incentive to get people who already own Windows gaming PCs to adopt SteamOS, because they can only purchase each game once. The goal with this is to open the Steam platform out in front of people who aren't using it right now (or who are only using it in a limited way, like redeeming Humble Bundles.)

HL3 is going to be the Trojan horse that drives SteamOS adoption.

Valve has no reason to try to drive SteamOS, and they don't have much actual interest in getting people who are already running Windows-based gaming PCs to install it.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?

Hey dudes. My coworker gave it to me and he is hype too. I will smack my keyboard Wanted style over his face if you want! IF BLOOD IS WHAT YOU DEMAND!

Now that I know it is fake, it's all good.

Yeah, that's way too tacky to be Valve's style. Looks like a really simplistic test chamber combo'd with some really basic Adobe Aftereffects stuff.
