PAL Charts - Week 40, 2013

UK is 360 country, rest of EU is PS3 land

Substitute FIFA for Madden, and UK and US are pretty similar markets, more so than UK = rest of Europe

Sure looks that way pal. Will Sony regain UK/US gamer's hearts with the PS4? If so, they'll rule the world once again.

It's all about the games!

No, you wouldn't, because 30k is an excellent opening for the UK lately. There's a reason people say "The UK market is dead!" and it's not because it's some kind of hilarious meme. Even If TWWHD had sold 15K, that would still be top 3 highest Wii U openings this year. For reference Pikmin 3 debuted at number 2 and we know that sold between 6 and 16k.

That's for wii u (which is doing particularily bad in the country) and not in general. Also again I'm not referring at all the number themselves but even in the maket conditions it's entirely out of the possiblty it did say 100k we just don't know people may consider it unlikely for whatever reason but we just don't know.

When there's a lack of information, it makes no sense to just just assume a number like that without any evidence other than the uk market is bad. Which doesn't mean anything on an individual game basis it's simply a general trend consider GTA still beat records massively and Fifa is still doing well. We just don't know and we should leave it at that until we know more

Not getting numbers doesn't automatically mean anything goes. The game having a good-within-generally-bad debut makes a lot more sense than it magically selling ten times what Wii U games sell and nearly double Skyward Sword's opening.

I presume this does not count digital downloads for the Wii U, as the console deal came with a Zelda code rather than game...

I can not see many paying the £49.99 they wanted on the e-shop though

The WWHD numbers does not include the console bundle, right?

So with the fact that the DD version was released way earlier and there was a console bundle then this looks even more impressive that it was so high.

Nice.

It wasn't released earlier in Europe >:(

Also, it's nice to see it doing well. Nobody expected it to beat FIFA/GTA V but being right behind them ain't bad at all. Zelda's always done better in the West, no?

Oh it wasn't? still good either way. Thanks for the correction.

Ye I believe so. Canada was eating up WWHD also.

Wait, how are you guys basing success on chart ranking .. It's just above Minecraft which has been out for weeks so isn't going to be crazy high.

I don't know what it says about Wii U owners that they'll pay 40 quid for a Gamecube port... and yet something new that seems like it might be genuinely worthwhile in Wonderful 101 gets ignored completely.

Wii U games without some mascot nostalgia pushing them may as well not turn up at all at this point, and Nintendo fans just sent Nintendo the message those games don't even need to be new.

"I find Platinum to be extremely overrated.

They've produced some of the most insubstantial titles I've played in the past few years. None of them felt like they were worth full price... well, maybe Anarchy Reigns, but that's only because that was budget priced."

shut up, you're just looking for an excuse to troll/shit on it

And above two other new releases (F1 2013 and Just Dance 2014) on individual formats chart. Those coming on platforms with tens (if not hundred) times more consoles.

And without the help of the bundle which contained the digital version.

So? Rayman says hello.

Still stands, outside of GTA and Fifa we don't know what the average baseline is right now.

Wow... I posted that a while ago. I must have really got to you with that post.

Yes, I'm NOT fond of Platinum based on their output in the past, but at the same time I haven't played Wonderful 101, I only know it's an actual new game that "reviewed well" and a lot of people love, including people I know whose opinion I actually put stock in. I would much rather see something like that be a notable success on a struggling console like the Wii U than a grossly overpriced HD up-port of a ten year old game. Who wouldn't?

Saying that... I'm not sure what point you thought you were making lining up those two quotes though.

Handle your shit, son.

The point is: as a minimum, at least be honest when you post. You could easily have made your "cheap rehash" post without feigning interest in the Wonderful 101.

What other big 3DS game released in the last few months would you expect to see there? Animal Crossing is actually one of the older games in the chart, most of them are pretty recent.

All the important Nintendo 3DS titles charted for lots and lots of weeks (and before M.I.S. enters and spouts"Bu-bu-bu the "So many games promotion did that! Without that, 3DSh isn't wortha of selling gamesh!!1111!!" for the 5th time...that promotion ended back in June, so how would you explain seeing lots of 3DS titles in top 40 for July and a good part of August? Good odds? Heatwave? Dragon coming back to life? How?). And, in the meanwhile, titles like Project X Zone and Harvest Moon obtained to chart way higher than anyone would have believed in their debut week. It's true that they left the chart the week after their debut, but it's how niche titles perform usually in UK (Graces F had the same trajectory PxZ had, just to say), and Harvest Moon is sold out as hell. Unfortunately, there haven't been many important 3DS titles saleswise recently, while HD consoles had lots of them. I'm pretty sure titles like PxZ and HM wouldn't have charted at all in the past, and you wouldn't have seen the huge amount of 3DS titles in top 40 per week for so long last year. So, 3DS environment saw a huge improvement compared to the past. Yeah, despite the crappiest version ever of FIFA not selling. Not that 3DS has no problems anymore in selling software (UK stays the country where it's difficultier for it to sell games and here it's even more evident than elsewhere the fact is has problems with Western core games - I'm talking about everything, not just FIFA obviously), but still things improved greatily since last year.

So? Rayman says hello.

Still stands, outside of GTA and Fifa we don't know what the average baseline is right now.

It's a HD remake developed in 6 months and selling at almost full price. Even if it sold 10k it is a success. More so if we consider the LEs. Not even considering the hardware bundles and digital downloads.

For Rayman just the porting and additional content took 6 months and the price was lower.

I know perhaps you're not, but you do seem bitter as fuck with everything/anything to do with Nintendo, particularly the 3DS.
I have beef with their hardware and services (not the games). I think they're shit.

That said, I find the 3DS' current situation in the UK genuinely interesting. It seemed like the hardware was on the ascension, but the software has just dropped off the face of the planet.

The possibility that people are starting to download more makes sense to me. Especially cheap SD card compatibility with 3DS.
...which isn't tracked.

I disagree. I just can't play shit games man.

WiiU gen winner confirmed!

If it weren't obvious enough, I strongly disagree that price comes before games.

Price is the determining factor at the point of entry. Especially when we're talking about a Sony or MS console.

The reasons the Wii U failed to make a bigger impact at release and beyond are far more complex than something that can be boiled down to just one or two bullet points.

I didn't feign interest in anything. I was merely making an observation on the comparative successes (Or lack thereof) of the two most recent Wii U titles (Which would seem a fair comparison to make imo) to see release and what that implies about the buying habits of Wii U owners.

I also didn't say "cheap rehash", I suggested WWHD was grossly overpriced for a HD up-port. Which it is.

Well, you played the game of throne troll and you lost. ^_^

What do I lose exactly?

It's possible, just as it is with Vita and Wii U. Not sure how likely it is though.

What do I lose exactly?

The throne :]

I see this said a lot but have never really seen it cited anywhere. Why do we think Vita leans disproprtionately digital versus PS3, 3DS, 360, Wii U, PSP, etc?
Tretton at E3. All anecdotal, feel free to totally ignore.

It's 60% of all software, but the trick is that the figure includes digital-only indie ports, quite possibly PSX games, Minis and maybe even PS+ downloads.

So, when it comes to WiiU things are complicated, but when it comes to PS4 and XB1 things are as simple as one factor (price)?I don't think it works like that.

Not just Tretton, it's been said by at least some publishers that digital on Vita accounted for a significant proportion of overall sales. Off the top of my head I can recall during Ubisoft's conference call earlier in the year they were saying AC3 Liberation saw high digital sales in addition to the physical sales. Think the figure given there was something like 20% of sales... maybe... been a while. It's not exactly 60%, but it's still a big number when you consider Liberation on Vita sold north of 600k.

Think it's more than fair to say Vita digital traffic is heavy imo. Unless there's some evidence to the contrary I have yet to see...
