Wii U software units just slightly below PSV software units at retail in September. Each accounted for 0.7% of the market, but the Wii U was apparently just below. More later, when I get time to juggle the numbers.
Haha that's fucking terrible.

Edit: UK just to be sure. I know regulars in the PAL Charts threads will know that, but not everyone's a regular.
I don't have the sales figures at hand, but again: that's simply not true. Gameboy most likely sold way less launch aligned.
It's also worth noting that, going by the graph you posted, 3DS is just behind DS and GBA. TBH I would have expected the difference to be much bigger by now (and it's surely gonna get bigger).
I think this simply isn't a fair point to make. You are picking one country (and one that, lately, didn't exactly tend to favor Nintendo) and you pick one single week in said country. 1 out of 40 is abysmal, no doubt. But that's not telling us anything at all - well, it's telling us that 3DS had bad sales in the top 40 in week 40 2013 in the UK.
I'm not gonna go out and claim that 3DS is doing great or anything, but there simply are a few things to consider when doing comparisons like these (including the ones against GBA):
a) GBA was a monster, basically from launch on. So "winning" a comparison against that handheld isn't an easy goal at all.
b) DS had its issues at launch, but did really take off after like ~1.5 years and it's sold over 150 million units LTD. So, who on earth expected 3DS to top that?
c) The market today is different than it was 5 or 10 years ago. I guess no one doubts that Nintendos handheld division was hurt by smartphones and tablets. The interesting question, imo, isn't whether or not Nintendo can "beat" the GBA and/or the DS, but rather if it's able to be a viable plattform after all is said and done and warrant a successor.
What would be much more worrisome for Nintendo than not selling as much as GBA or DS did is if the handheld market would continue to shrink. I do think that the US market is still shrinking (using 12 month TTMs), but worldwide it seems like it's pretty stable (on a significantle lower level though than 5 years ago!) and the US handheld market might soon (to be more precise, starting with this holiday season) be growing (atleast slightly) again.
In terms of software sales it should also be noted that 3DS software sales do only include those of sales that came from 3DS titles that are available at retail (it however includes both the retail and the downloadable version). Basically, any title that is eShop exclusive is not counted. It's difficult to tell how much these titles sell, but than again there are quite a few available on the eShop, so it sort of makes 3DS' software sales look worse compared to those of DS. It's also worth noting that Nintendo probably can sell less software titles per system compared to DS, but still have the same margin (per system sold) because a) a significant part of those lost software sales are from games like Brain Training (i.e. lower margin), b) games sold through the eShop (both eShop exclusives and retail games) most likely have a far bigger margin than those sold at retail.
Long story made short: 3DS isn't gonna rise to heaven, but 3DS isn't doomed either. Weak performance in a single week in one countries top 40, imo, doesn't mean shit in the grand scheme of things (especially considering that said performance is completely different in other countries - see Germany week 39).
As Sales Age regulars have often pointed out, 3DS is doing excellent in Japan and meh everywhere else. But persistent weakness in the US and Euro markets mark down it's overall figures. It's not going to set the world on fire as previous Nintendo handhelds in the past did. Nintendo will just have to adjust to this new market reality. Ironically, collapse of Wii U sales will probably send very many Nintendo fans to the 3DS [myself included] as their go to Nintendo system.
Not much to disagree with here. At this stage, much of the shrinkage of the handheld market in NA has occurred at the expense of Sony's handheld system. But it has affected Nintendo too. In-fact, based on the most current NPD numbers, the 3DS is actually tracking below the PSP in the same timeframe. Again, with the release of X / Y, this situation will see an improvement.
Finally, I think Nintendo is being far too conservative with it's PR, software download figures and it's overall presentation. I never go into the eShop but does Nintendo have download charts? And if not why not? Why isn't it offering chart placements [ie just a listing not actual raw download figures] to bodies like GFK Chart Track. It'd be free publicity for them and would generate further interest in the e-Shop. I'm assuming here that Nintendo UK / NoE would probably have to seek permission from Iwata at NCL to do this. And I'm thinking he would probably say no.
Yikes. The Vita had Killzone. What did the Wii U have?
Well, actually 3DS has been the best selling console through the whole Summer in UK, and soon it'll outsell PS3 and 360 for the whole year, while in Germany and France it's already the best selling console for this year. Looking at past trends, it shouldn't be so different in Spain and Italy. NoUK spokesperson said recently there have been "real momentum" in UK. In US, it's been the best selling console for the last four months, but the console should sell more (August was worse than 2012, but it was XL + NSMB2 debut month...)
Rockstars Grand Theft Auto V has claimed its second UKIE Gfk Chart-Track All Formats UK No.1 after two weeks at the top for EAs FIFA 14.
Nintendos 3DS RPGs Pokemon X and Pokemon Y debut in third and fourth place respectively, with week one sales doubling last years Black 2 and White 2.
Sonys PS3 exclusive Beyond: Two Souls begins its charts stint in fifth, falling short of the No.1 debut achieved by Quantic Dreams last release, Heavy Rain.
NIS Americas Dragons Crown debuts in 19th and Mind Candys Moshi Monsters: Katsuma Unleashed in 28th.

Surprised Beyond only managed fifth. I guess Heavy Rain burnt a lot of people as it sure as hell wasn't for a lack of advertising....

Considering what it was up against, I don't think 5th is too bad. Probably not going to beat GTA V or either Pokemon and FIFA is also very popular...
I'm not too familiar with TLoU sales TBH. Would it have charted higher than 5th (or 4th) if it released this week?Sure, still figured it would chart higher considering it had an ad campaign that's on par with TLoU. Ah well, not to worry. I'm sure Sony will be happy with its placement. Wish my copy would arrive though, damn Amazon and their ever increasing unreliability...
Wind Waker at 10 in its second week isn't bad right? Considering the general situation.

chart over Pokemon?
not every game is going to pull TLoU sales
Was never really going to outdo Pokemon.
Yeah, that's certainly true. It's nice to hope for things though and it would have been a nice boost to QD to see their game chart in the top three or higher.
Still, I'm sure they'll be happy with a top five placement.
Individual charts are up, always more interesting.
X and Y take top spots here. Dragon's Crown Vita charts too!

GTA should be ~119K for week 41.
FIFA all formats should be ~90K.
GTA should be ~119K for week 41.
Close. One of your digits should be a zero and you'd be pretty close
110k, then
Oh, I was just calculating using the percentage drops from some older numbers in past threads.Close. One of your digits should be a zero and you'd be pretty close

120K then?
EDIT: or 109 or 110, so many possibilities lol.
Beyond debuting as high as it possibly could given what it was up against. Good to see I guess, but I expect it'll have decent legs. Should do as well as Heavy Rain in the long run I'm guessing. Glad there still seems to be a market for titles like this.
But ouch at Pokemon failing to top the charts, all indications were that it was a lock for the top spot. When was the last main Pokemon that didn't take number 1 in the UK at launch?
So Beyond is around 30K.? What was Heavy Rains First week sales?
It should be the whole of that week.Is Pokemon only counting 1 day then or does it include pre release sales as well?
Meanwhile Fifa gets listed as one entry. I'd say the Vita version is very different from the PS3 version...then again those lesser versions tend to be negligible sales anyway.Ah, so Pokemon X/Y would have been number one in the combined chart if they were listed as one entry.
