Games UK: PS3 digital content to carry over to PS4 [Sony: Nope]

They clearly mean this in reference to stuff like Flower, Flow, Sound Shapes etc. which are actually getting ports.

Not every game - if they mean that, then it has to be Gaikai, surely.

That Game account is in for a world of sh*t once the higher ups see this misinformation.

It will be Gaikai - which is 2014 for US and 2015 for elsewhere iirc

Gaikai wasn't specifically mentioned, though, if you look at the conversation.

Hard not to think it's related, though:

Michael Futter ‏@Futterish 3m
@GAMEBasildon @yosp @Fylian Do I understand correctly that PS3 digital content (games, etc) will work on PS4?

GAME Basildon ‏@GAMEBasildon 1m
@Futterish @yosp @Fylian What we've been told, yes =)

GAME don't know shit.

I don't think Sony is going to bother having hundreds of shitty PSN game remade for PS4, and they do have to be completely remade for PS4.

This is just one of the branches of GAME, not the full company... It's usually an employee that runs the accounts, so I wouldn't put too much stock in it right now...

Holy shit.. so if I collect hundreds of PS3 games via PS+, I can play them on the PS4 via Gaikai? That would be awesome.

Who/what is "Games Basildon"?

I'm going to remain skeptical. Clearly this is in reference to Gaikai?

GAME Basildon ‏@GAMEBasildon 15m
@ixYi @yosp Took us by surprise as well, but yes. Told any games you download digitally will be available.

Adnan ‏@ixYi 8m
@GAMEBasildon @yosp Did they mentioned anything about Gaikai? Will the digital content be accessible from Day 1?

GAME Basildon ‏@GAMEBasildon 8m
@ixYi @yosp No. Aim to be implemented in 2014.

If it's Gaikai, they changed the name or didn't bother to use it when explaining this in whatever meeting this info just came out of.

Someone ask them if this is Gaikai.

Even so, if this is true and you can play any digital copy of something through Gaikai, that'd be pretty damn awesome. Although I'm sure they'll charge a higher premium for using that service.

Edit: They say no. Interesting.

I don't believe it. That level of BC would mean emulation, and I don't think the PS4 could do it. It's a nice dream though.

I mean, I'd be happy if it were true, but come on.

Edit: Yeah, unless they mean Gaikai, which is not a BC solution I'd ever want.

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...
No fucking way that this happens. Via Gaikai later on? Yeah, maybe. But we sure as hell wont be able to play all ps3 games on ps4 at launch.

Even if this is about Gaikai. That you can access you PS3 game library without rebuying the games is somewhat good news right?

The GAME store in Basildon is my guess

It's a branch of Game based in the little shithole of a town known as Basildon.

If it's Gaikai, they changed the name or didn't bother to use it when explaining this in whatever meeting this info just came out of.

Basildon is a place in the UK, Game is a retailer which has a store there.

Thank you.

This is about Gaikai, I'm sure of it.

If this were true it would have been slung around by Sony like a chimp slinging poo. No way would they keep this quiet.

My bet's riding on some Junior Scrote getting hold of his bosses mobile on his lunch break and having a laugh.

If this is semi-true (Gaikai) then i do hope it's not just digital that works.

It's already known that the ps4 will be able to at least read your PS3 gamedisc to initiate the upgrade program, so i sure hope that Gaikai will give you the options to play your hardcopies for free using the same technology.

Paying 7.99 a month for Gaikai or whatever makes it not as good of a value proposition. It seems to be something different though.

What I don't understand is why it keeps being stated as digital copies. If this is true PS3 BC implemented through software why wouldn't discs work as well? Surely they can change the Blu-ray drive to run at 2x instead of 8x or whatever?

Well, i think that such a thing was expected.

Nintendo makes you rebuy VC games. And Sony has done so with PS2 titles on the PS Store.

If anything, this will be:

PS1 / PS2 games via emulation.
Products and services associated with an account
Video purchased through store
Mini's.

The first of which being the least unlikely.
Ps3 games will never work. Ever.

Probably means DLC for cross gen games like Battlefield, Cod etc. They haven't found a magic cell emulator in the last 2 weeks. Don't kid yourself.

Never trust a Game store, NEVER. They do not know a thing, I knew more on a day to day basis about games when I used to work there than any area manager.

I think it has to be some streaming solution; but even if its just that Gaikai can pick up your PS3 digital purchases and grant you the game that would be a nice benefit of the service.

Oddly enough I'm pretty sure this is GAME UK talking isn't it? So maybe the big news for GAME was that Gaikai is getting rolled out in the UK earlier than previously stated.

I would be overjoyed by that if it means I don't have to wait until 2015 to play some of the PS3 exclusives from the last few months.

Not really. PS3 has PS2 BC for digital titles, but not retail.

I was speaking under the assumption of HW backwards compatibility. You're right, though, they could be doing emulation. Something like that would take a lot of work and would have been something announced with the system or E3. Occam's razor tells me there's been a misunderstanding.

This would be fantastic if true, though. I hate how the current generation pushed digital content only to keep it locked to the system. A hardware or emulation based backwards compatibility would instill quite a bit of confidence in their online services and, I feel, should have been important to all three companies.

So on twitter, this guy is saying Sony themselves told to retailers that all PS3 digital games (with GTAV as an example) will be playable with no additional fees through PS4 (and Vita via remote play) sometime in 2014?

It's so huge if true.

I haven't been in the GAME store in Basildon for ages but when I used to the staff in there didn't exactly seem on the ball.

They gave an example of TLoU played on the PS4 after being bought digitally on the PS3.

Yeah, it seems not random at all, taking GTAV or TLOU as example.

In fact it does makes sense about those titles not being cross gen (ND deying working on it, etc). Even GT6.

(and why QD is looking to make Beyond digital in the future... they don't have to)
