Kotaku: NFS Rivals "indistinguishable" between PS4/PC, XB1 version not present

Oh and the PC build was played with a PS4 controller.

http://kotaku.com/need-for-speed-rivals-looks-amazing-whether-you-play-it-1447871333

For one moment, the gap between playing a game on PC and on console seemed razor-thin. I played Need for Speed Rivals on both PC and PS4 and the two versions of EA’s upcoming racing game were virtually indistinguishable. What I saw was impressive no matter what machine it was running on.

There are caveats, of course. The footage above was captured from a hands-on demo I played when EA brought Rivals to town last week. It’s from a PC build of the game that was running side-by-side with PS4 builds. (Note that I’m not the one behind the wheel there. The driving in the clip is being done by EA’s Marcus Nilsson. I am in the session, though, playing on PC with a PS4 controller under the Rivals_Whisky username.) There was no Xbox One version on hand at the demo session. And you should keep in mind that specs for the PC version weren't available and I have no way of knowing if Rivals was running on Ultra settings.

For the most part, though, the two looked essentially the same. Take in the videos in this post and you’ll see the kinds of reflective surfaces, chaotic particle effects and dynamic lighting that serve as hallmarks of cutting-edge game-making. The team making the game is made up of creators from the DICE and Criterion shops, meaning that they’ve worked on Battlefield and Burnout games in the past.

Strange because it's Kotaku, but I trust this article over Polygon's. Lesser of two evils?

I hope this turns out well, I need a PS4 racing game. Glad it at least looks good.

I don't think the Xbox One version not being there means anything significant.

A subjective statement like this cannot be taken seriously, i'd trust more on a DF analysis

Also no way jose

The fact that the Xbox One version of the game isn't present while the PS4 & PC versions are should be pretty telling.

More like conjoined twins if you ask me.

But on other hand all this means in reality is that they did a good job on the PS4 version. If the rumors of capped 30fps on the PC are true then EA can go fuck themselves LOL

Just to remind people:

“What we’re seeing with the consoles are actually that they are a little bit more powerful than we thought for a really long time – especially one of them, but I’m not going to tell you which one," Nilsson told VideoGamer.com at Gamescom earlier today.
“I think that both consoles will look pretty much on parity,” he replied, “but one of them might stick up a little bit.”

Not really.

Back during the PS2 gen, EA games were shown on that console but that didn't mean that the Xbox version of the games looked worse.

Game looks great, but I'm still pretty bummed about it being locked to 30 fps on PC.

Oh well, by the time I pick it up modders probably would have worked their magic and found a way to unlock the framerate

I'll end up buying two EA games this launch lol, PS2 all over again :O, i got FIFA and Madden then, but Madden looks like ass now so it looks like NFS and FIFA for me.

The cold hard truth: Because the Xbox One versions of multiplat games are inferior, that's why.

Or because the PS4 had more positive reception from gamers during its pre-launch period and will more than likely sell more than the Xbox One.

With Most games being demoed on PS4 and or PC, is it safe to safe the standard for review copies or lead platform skus will be PS4?

EA and Sony had some kind of partnership, no? I remember EA Sports games didn't have LIVE support until '04.

Whats up with all the devs only showing PS4 versions lately

Same reason as every other generation.

You show your best looking version to the public. It is all a part of marketing.

If EA showed footage of Battlefield 4 for the 360 instead of the PC version, do you think people would be as excited about it?

It was maybe due to the fact that ps2 had gargantuan sales numbers compared to the xbox. This is a new gen, everyone starts from scratch.Makes no sense to show ps4 and pc and not X1. That version maybe a bit behind schedule or it might be a little weaker. Probably nothing significant but still, their past comments "one of the versions sticks out" makes more sense now.

But on the flip side, if the game looks the same on both X1 and Ps4, why have both consoles? In either situation only having one version makes more sense.

And while yes, the consoles aren't out yet the PS4 obviously has/had more positive reception.

I think the gap between PS4 and X1 versions of multiplatform titles will be bigger than some are expecting. This is quite telling IMO.

Because there have been a lot of questions about whether they would look the same due to discussions on power and even EA once saying that one might stick out a bit more. So even if they did look the same you'd think that they'd want to show it just to put any fears to rest.
